| Gender | Male |
| Affiliation | Chu Yanzhang’s company, Divine Sea 37 150 |
| Occupation/Role | Chu Yanzhang’s second special assistant; handles corporate work, surveillance, security coordination, and personal errands 37 75 84 160 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 37 |
Appearance
- Build: Tall and burly. Xie Zhuzhou thinks he looks capable of beating an ox to death, making his supposed role as an ineffective caregiver particularly suspicious 74.
- Clothing and bearing: Wears a sharply structured suit and projects an imposing presence, though his confidence diminishes noticeably around Xie Zhuzhou 172.
- Dark circles: Develops pronounced dark circles while overworked. Chu Yanzhang mistakes them for under-eye fullness associated with an attractive appearance, to Wu Chang’s dismay 99 128.
Personality
Wu Chang is sarcastic, observant, and willing to challenge his employer’s judgment. He repeatedly recognizes the gap between Xie Zhuzhou’s fierce behavior and Chu Yanzhang’s insistence that Xie is gentle and innocent. His attempts to point this out earn displeasure rather than agreement, but he continues making pointed remarks 76 81 104.
Despite his complaints, he remains attentive to Chu Yanzhang’s welfare and responsibilities. He worries during his boss’s unsuccessful eye treatment, urges him to address the company’s workload, and warns him about staying up late. He also enjoys teasing Chu Yanzhang about his romantic anxieties and fear of ghosts 48 99 128 131.
His loyalty has practical limits. When Ji Wangchen’s men confront the company’s employees, Wu Chang chooses cooperation over a potentially humiliating fight. He reasons that employees’ safety matters more than protecting their boss’s secret outing 155.

Background / History
Serving Chu Yanzhang During His Blindness
Wu Chang first appears filling in for Wen Shuming and reading a report aloud to Chu Yanzhang. When Chu asks for a practical thank-you gift for Xie Zhuzhou, Wu suggests sending handsome men, provoking an immediate rejection 37.
After an eye operation fails, Wu Chang and Wen Shuming worry over Chu’s silence, poor appetite, and declining condition. Xie later confronts both assistants after Chu leaves his hospital room and is found near the artificial lake 48 50.
To conceal Chu’s circumstances from Xie, Wu Chang poses as a caregiver associated with Country D, while Wen Shuming plays a cousin. His unexpected arrival interrupts Chu’s attempt to confess the deception. He improvises an explanation for being in the country and retreats when Chu dismisses him 74. Chu eventually admits that neither man holds the role he claimed 118.
Xie Zhuzhou’s Birthday Banquet
Wu Chang warns that rumors about Xie’s confrontation with his grandfather have attracted curious guests and potential troublemakers. He reports that most waitstaff have already been replaced with their people and receives instructions to increase their presence. Chu also orders him to sell their Chu Family shares cheaply to its rivals 75.
During the banquet, Wu monitors the venue, reassures Chu after a speaker explodes, and coordinates the capture of infiltrators. When an attacker waits near the stairs, he guides Chu into position to incapacitate the man before Xie arrives 79 82 84.
Cruise-Ship Surveillance
Aboard the cruise ship, Wu Chang takes control of surveillance and watches Xie and Chu repeatedly misread—or overlook—each other’s dangerous behavior. After observing Chu flatter Xie and coax him into a shooting lesson, Wu concludes that the two are well matched 104 106.
He also watches over the captive Sha Li in a room adjoining the surveillance room. Wu taunts him about refusing food and Ji Wuwei’s inability to help, but Sha Li refuses to betray his employer 107.
Secret Outing and the Yu Estate
When Ji Wangchen’s men seek the absent couple, Wu Chang agrees to list every address he knows. Chu subsequently deducts six months of his bonus for “selling him out,” threatening a two-year deduction for another offense 155 158.
During the same call, Wu recommends the Yu Family’s property over two alternatives near the Ji residence. He also reports that several of Xie’s suitors are interested in it. While Chu and Xie spend the weekend away, Wu works overtime to secure the estate 158 160.
Scheme Against the Jin Family
On Chu’s instructions, Wu Chang, Wen Shuming, and their colleagues stage a loud business discussion beside Jin Renwei’s private room, making a light energy project sound highly sought-after 235.
Wu then hosts Assistant Yu at a temporary office. He presents polished project materials, introduces supposed technical difficulties, and takes a conveniently timed call about another interested party. Believing the opportunity may disappear, Assistant Yu photographs the key documents, taking the bait prepared for him 236.
Later, when suspicious vehicles pursue Xie Zhuzhou’s car, Chu instructs Wu Chang to call the police while sending drone A89 to record the pursuit 246.
Relationships
- Chu Yanzhang — Employer and frequent recipient of Wu’s blunt advice. Wu handles both business and personal requests, while Chu repeatedly threatens or deducts his pay and bonuses over unwelcome remarks or perceived disloyalty 37 81 119 158.
- Xie Zhuzhou — Initially knows Wu as a caregiver. Wu recognizes his sharp tongue and dangerous capabilities earlier than Chu acknowledges them, but also coordinates his protection and later helps with his paperwork 74 76 82 172.
- Wen Shuming — Fellow special assistant. Wu substitutes for him, shares concern over Chu’s treatment, and works alongside him in the scheme targeting Jin Renwei 37 48 235 236.
- Yang Da — Works alongside Wu around the couple. Yang Da’s group questions Wu during the search for Chu and Xie, prompting Wu to disclose possible addresses 118 155.
