After those words fell, the surroundings sank into dead silence.
The expressions on Shangguan Feng's and Qin Feng's faces were a little too colorful.
Fu Jingzhou, probably used to it by now, only paused briefly.
Clutching his nose, Jiang Nan asked, "Is there a hospital nearby?"
Fu Jingzhou's voice was low. "Yes."
His conscience pricking him, Shangguan Feng took the initiative to call over a golf cart.
Although he was a doctor, he had no equipment on hand. Fortunately, the golf course had a hospital.
At the hospital.
After a young nurse carefully bandaged Jiang Nan's wound, he opened his eyes and looked around, but found no sign of Fu Jingzhou.
So he left the examination room and spotted Fu Jingzhou in the corridor.
He sat in his wheelchair, the contours of his profile striking and smooth, his expression the indifferent sort.
Jiang Nan ran over cheerfully. "Zhouzhou..."
Only after running over did he notice someone else sitting on the row of seats beside Fu Jingzhou.
The man wore a suit and leather shoes, his features handsome and rakish. Hearing the noise, he looked up.
Jiang Nan had never met this person and was about to politely look away.
But the stranger's gaze seemed to hook onto him, watching him with a half smile, that simple gesture loaded with meaning.
It was as though they knew each other already, and their relationship was far from ordinary.
Jiang Nan's heart lurched.
He asked 771, [Who's this? Don't tell me he knows the original owner?]
771's voice betrayed his delight at Jiang Nan's misfortune. [He's the protagonist gong, Fu Jinchuan.]
His tone was downright obnoxious, too.
Jiang Nan silently added that to his mental ledger, then looked away with feigned composure. Turning his head, he met Fu Jingzhou's dark, fathomless eyes head-on.
He froze, unsure whether Fu Jingzhou could tell anything was wrong.
Jiang Nan hurriedly pressed his lips into a smile, faint dimples appearing beside them. With a bandage across the bridge of his nose, he looked innocent and pitiful.
Fu Jingzhou looked away and turned to Fu Jinchuan, saying calmly, "I'll take your little aunt home first. Come to the office the day after tomorrow to discuss that contract for the outskirts."
Little aunt?
Jiang Nan's eyes lit up at the title.
Only then did he remember that Fu Jinchuan was the son of Old Master Fu's illegitimate son. Technically, he really was a generation below him and Fu Jingzhou.
Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Being called little aunt by the protagonist felt pretty damn good.
"My dear nephew, hurry on home," Jiang Nan said gleefully. "I'm heading home with your little uncle."
Fu Jinchuan really was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle of endurance. Even when someone a year younger called him nephew, his expression remained unchanged, the smile staying on his face.
"Goodbye, little uncle, little aunt."
Fu Jingzhou had intended to take Jiang Nan home, but Jiang Nan hadn't had enough fun and insisted on returning to the golf course despite his injured nose.
Qin Feng and Shangguan Feng were playing golf and were rather surprised to see the two return.
"Why are you back?"
"Disabled in body, unbroken in spirit," Jiang Nan replied.
Sitting in his wheelchair, Fu Jingzhou tapped its arm lightly with his fingertips. "No matter how you look at it, that description suits me better."
At that, Jiang Nan crouched down with a solemn expression, bringing himself eye level with Fu Jingzhou.
The golf course was bright beneath the lovely spring sunshine.
Backlit by the sun, Jiang Nan's pink hair looked somewhat washed out, and his tea-colored eyes looked earnest and sincere.
771 held his breath, waiting, thinking Jiang Nan might manage to produce some words of wisdom.
"Baby..." Brimming with affection, Jiang Nan drew on the convincing acting skills he used when faking illness to ask his director for time off. "The wounds are on your body, but the pain is in my heart."
"..."
Fu Jingzhou pushed him away expressionlessly, turned his wheelchair, and left without looking back.
771 pulled a long face. [I never should've expected anything more from you.]
Jiang Nan replied, [Then kindly roll your round little self away.]
Holding his club, Jiang Nan barely played at all, mostly chatting with Shangguan Feng and Qin Feng.
Like a social butterfly, he successfully added Qin Feng on WeChat.
Shangguan Feng was talkative. Aside from being a bit of a poser, he was pretty easy to get along with.
Qin Feng, however, was different.
The sort who wouldn't squeeze out a fart even if you beat him eight times with a pole.
Jiang Nan was determined to break into the big shot's circle of buddies, so naturally, he was exceptionally enthusiastic toward Qin Feng.
To Fu Jingzhou, that enthusiasm was downright abnormal.
He narrowed his eyes as he watched Jiang Nan standing between Qin Feng and Shangguan Feng, his face blooming with smiles, and his lips curled into a cold smile.
The sinister kind.
Jiang Nan turned his head and immediately caught that cold smile on Fu Jingzhou's face.
But he was a little too far away, so he thought the big shot was smiling brightly.
That only made him more certain he had made the right decision.
-Infiltrate the big shot's circle of buddies and become one of his buddies.
On the way back, Jiang Nan hummed as he sprawled in his seat, playing a game.
Fu Jingzhou sat beside him reading documents, but even after a long while, he hadn't finished a single page.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, realized his mind wasn't particularly calm, then turned his head and looked over with an icy gaze. "You seem very happy?"
Jiang Nan blushed, a little shy. "Is it that obvious?"
"Not very," Fu Jingzhou said flatly. "At least, not as obvious as if you took a megaphone to a television station and shouted about it."
Jiang Nan: "..."
He silently lowered his phone, his eyelids tightening into a distinctly unfriendly look. "Are you mocking me?"
Fu Jingzhou raised an eyebrow, his expression seeming to say, "You actually noticed?"
Jiang Nan clutched his phone and turned his back on Fu Jingzhou, saying nothing.
Fu Jingzhou fell silent too and went back to his documents.
Old Yang, driving up front, silently clenched his buttocks, not daring to make a sound.
The Maybach drove into Jinghe Garden.
When the security guards at Jinghe Garden's entrance saw the familiar car, they opened the gate straightaway without even checking who was inside.
They drove around the center of the lake and reached Building Six beside it.
In the underground parking garage, the Maybach had barely shut off before Jiang Nan left with his phone, never looking back.
At the sight, Fu Jingzhou's fingers paused briefly. Then he got out as usual and settled into his wheelchair.
Old Yang stood to the side, his eyes lowered, respectfully watching Fu Jingzhou enter the elevator.
Normally, the young madam would eagerly open the trunk, take out the wheelchair himself, then smilingly invite their young master to sit in it.
Now that the young master had angered his own wife, he no longer got that treatment.
Jiang Nan returned to the bedroom in a huff and stuffed himself under the covers.
He started a round of Honor of Kings and ultimately earned the glorious distinction of being reported by his teammates for his 0-13-2 record.
In the end, he quit the game in disgrace.
He tossed his phone aside. "Now I'm even angrier."
771 popped out. [What are you angry about?]
"He mocked me!!!!"
771 sucked in a breath.
He had originally wanted to say that Fu Jingzhou was just a villain in a novel, so why take anything he said or did to heart?
But when he glimpsed Jiang Nan's face, flushed red with anger, he decisively muted himself.
Because Jiang Nan seemed not to have realized that he cared more and more about what Fu Jingzhou thought of him.
