Background

Yukimichi lost his father on the battlefield and his mother during a mission. His younger brother became his only surviving family, and protecting him was Yukimichi’s stated reason for seeking greater power 51.

By eighteen, he had fought for ten years. His supporters cited that experience when defending his appointment as second elder against claims that the younger Homura Uchiha was more talented 56.

Appearance

  • Spiky hair: Dai Uchiha grabs him by it while interrupting his excited laughter before the Shimura offensive 67.
  • Three-Tomoe Sharingan: Activates it during combat, reconnaissance, interrogation, and identification 47 56 65 204.
  • Clothing: Wears a new-style military academy uniform when returning to active service 200.
  • Usual weapon: Carries a long ninja blade at his waist 56 69.

Personality

Yukimichi is fiercely proud of the Uchiha and openly contemptuous of people he considers weak. His polite recruitment speech to civilians had to be taught to him; the narration contrasts it with the insulting demands he would otherwise have made. He is more restrained around Takashi because he respects superior strength 32. Nevertheless, he is embarrassed to charge incoming villagers thirty percent of their harvest when Uchiha civilians generally pay only ten percent 33.

He loves fighting and becomes visibly energized by opportunities to return to the front. His eagerness can turn into recklessness: Takashi initially assigns Dai to supervise him, and his determination to defeat Tatsu eventually leads him to use a dangerous technique during a friendly exercise 62 63 162.

Despite his arrogance, Yukimichi can accept responsibility. After the exercise, he acknowledges that winning while sacrificing most of his force is not a meaningful victory and commits himself to further study. His later caution sometimes becomes excessive, particularly when he mistakes an abandoned Sarutobi position for an elaborate ambush 164 245 246.

His attachment to his brother gives his pursuit of strength a protective motive. Takashi’s warning that awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan requires losing the person closest to him leaves him stunned at the prospect of losing that brother 51.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Genjutsu

Yukimichi uses the Three-Tomoe Sharingan to read movement, apply genjutsu, and support intelligence work 47 56 72.

  • Movement tracking: Builds his defensive fighting style around observing attacks and exploiting openings 56.
  • Interrogation: Extracts information from an information seller, verifies a Shimura messenger’s account, and questions a corrupt magistrate 47 69 70 203.
  • Identification: Casts genjutsu on a suspicious Uchiha guard, prompting the defenders to recognize him and admit the reinforcements 65.
  • Intelligence transmission: Records events through genjutsu and sends the record to Uchiha Village in a crow 47.
  • Visibility limit: Cannot see directly through mist produced from chakra-generated water. He can still detect disturbances and react to attacks within it 72.
  • Documented limit: No Mangekyō Sharingan awakening is shown; he still uses Mitsudomoe after returning from the academy 51 204.

Swordsmanship and Close Combat

Yukimichi favors defense and counterattacks, subtly guiding opponents into predictable responses before exploiting an opening. Takashi recognizes this method while watching his duel with Homura 56 57.

  • Combines sword pressure with one-handed ninjutsu, including Lightning Needle 57.
  • Uses the Body Flicker Technique to attack from blind spots and escape dangerous attacks 56 57.
  • Uses substitution to evade Homura’s fire dragon 57.
  • Wounds the Shimura First Elder and pressures the clan head while facing multiple opponents 72.
  • Identifies and decapitates a Sarutobi squad commander before completing an encirclement of the disorganized troops 250.

Fire Release

Technique Demonstrated use
Great Fireball Technique Attacks the Shimura Third Elder and opens exchanges against Fū and Tatsu 72 145 161.
Great Fire Dragon / Great Fire Dragon Technique Counters a water torrent and clashes with Fū’s tornado. Its size increases with the chakra supplied 72 145.
Majestic Destroyer Flame Uses sustained, wide-area flames against the Shimura elders and in his duel with Fū 72 145.
Great Fire Annihilation Meets Homura’s large-scale flames during their contest for second elder 57.
Fire Style: Shuriken Manipulation Technique Sends fire along threads to shuriken, which burst into burning fragments 145.

Fire Style: Ashen Earth Returns to the Abyss

A large-scale technique in which descending flames compress into a fireball before exploding. Its battlefield use is described as absorbing chakra, and it becomes Yukimichi’s principal heavy bombardment technique 162 206.

  • Early control problem: Cannot stop the collapsing fireball during the exercise; Takashi must intervene to protect nearby clansmen 162.
  • Anti-army attack: Destroys the Sarutobi fighters remaining after the southwestern border bombardment 206.
  • Siege attack: Blasts apart the walls of the Sarutobi border fortress 242.
  • Cooperative amplification: Accepts chakra from supporting Uchiha to strengthen the attack 250.
  • Later precision: Confines the shock wave to the enemy troops gathered inside an encirclement 250.

Military Command

  • Force allocation: Leaves elite fighters behind to defend the front rather than taking every strong shinobi into the Shimura offensive 67.
  • Intelligence security: Seals the southwestern border town, establishes a barrier team, and conceals his main strength while investigating enemy infiltrators 204.
  • Combined bombardment: Employs explosives before massed ninjutsu, reducing enemy strength while conserving his troops’ chakra 206.
  • Mobile warfare: Applies academy lessons about preserving troops over territory and defeating separated enemy formations in sequence 250.
  • Morale: Rallies his troops with appeals to Uchiha glory during the final Sarutobi battle 251.

  • Messenger crow: Carries his intelligence record from the sealed City of Fire 47.

Relationships

  • Uchiha Takashi — Superior and principal influence. Yukimichi follows his orders, imitates his methods, and seeks his advice about the Mangekyō Sharingan. Takashi removes him from office after the exercise disaster but intends to develop him into a marshal and later recalls him to command 51 70 71 163 164 200.
  • Unnamed younger brother — His only surviving family member and the person he explicitly wants greater power to protect 51.
  • Fū Uchiha — Friend and fellow elder. Yukimichi congratulates him on his marriage; their later reunion becomes a fiercely contested arena match 100 144 145.
  • Homura Uchiha — Rival for the second elder position. Yukimichi wins their deciding match after surviving Homura’s final attack 56 57.
  • Dai Uchiha — Senior commander assigned to supervise him. Dai approves his troop selection and joins him in the offensive against the Shimura headquarters 63 67 69.
  • Tatsu Uchiha — Respected veteran whom Yukimichi challenges to prove himself the clan’s new blade. Tatsu later argues for leniency when Yukimichi is punished 159 162 163.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Village Development and Refugee Recruitment

  • Warns that allowing non-Uchiha civilians into the Guard Force could cause resentment if they exercise authority over Uchiha civilians 23.
  • Recruits villagers with promises of farmland, protection, farming tools, and a thirty-percent tax rate. When a man demands more land and tax exemption, Yukimichi orders his seizure; Takashi orders the man killed after further resistance 32 33.

City of Fire Investigation

  • Initially sent to deliver a letter to Kai Fujiwara, Yukimichi traces Kai’s disappearance to the City of Fire. Takashi then orders him to investigate the Fujiwara family secretly 37 38.
  • Learns through genjutsu that Suke Fujiwara killed Kai and concealed his death. Discovering the city sealed and Senju and Uzumaki chakra at the gates, he avoids forcing an escape and sends his findings by crow 47.
  • Remains concealed until Takashi arrives. After the confrontation with the three great families, he helps transport scrolls containing their seized wealth back to Uchiha territory 49 51 53.

Appointment as Second Elder

  • His proposed appointment sparks debate over whether experience or Homura’s talent should take precedence. Takashi resolves the dispute with a sparring match 56.
  • Survives Homura’s Majestic Destroyer Arrow and gets back to his feet after Homura collapses from exhaustion. Takashi confirms him as second elder and supreme commander of the front lines 57.
  • Subsequently mishandles school construction by beginning to demolish occupied houses. Takashi stops him and requires compensation and replacement housing alongside the school project 59.

Shimura Campaign

  • Sent south with Dai, Yukimichi helps seize the Shimura front and persuades his senior to attack the lightly defended headquarters without waiting for further orders 62 67 69.
  • Verifies a surrender message with genjutsu while recognizing that the messenger himself might have been deceived. He also begins considering ways to absorb the Shimura and prevent future rebellion 70.
  • Breaks into the headquarters alone and fights the clan head and elders. The campaign forces most of the Shimura to surrender, though a few dozen escape; Takashi accepts the result without punishing Yukimichi’s initiative 72 74.

Arena Duel and Exercise Disaster

  • Attacks Black Zetsu when the latter unexpectedly appears in Takashi’s office; Zetsu evades him and offers intelligence services 131.
  • During the subsequent period of peace, challenges Fū to an arena spar. Their exchange escalates until both sustain Majestic Destroyer Flame despite dwindling chakra, causing an explosion that engulfs them without breaking the barrier 144 145.
  • Later challenges Tatsu in a military exercise. Facing defeat in their duel, he unleashes Ashen Earth Returns to the Abyss and nearly causes a disaster 159 162.
  • Although his attacking side wins, more than three hundred of his five hundred fighters are declared dead. Takashi denies him personal victor status, removes his military affairs officer and second elder positions, and sends him to the military academy 163 164.

Return to the Southwestern Front

  • Recalled after more than two years because the Uchiha lack frontline commanders, Yukimichi arrives with theatrical declarations borrowed from novels he read at the academy 200.
  • Takes command of six hundred troops against eight hundred Sarutobi fighters. His interrogation of an embezzling magistrate exposes information about Shimura remnants and enemy agents 203 204.
  • Defeats the invading force through explosives, ninjutsu bombardment, and Ashen Earth Returns to the Abyss. His army eliminates the immediate border threat in less than a day with fewer than fifty casualties, and he orders the infiltrators and Shimura remnants captured and disposed of 206.

Land of Gold Offensive

  • Leads five hundred elites into Sarutobi territory, destroying the border fortress’s walls and capturing the position with few Uchiha casualties 242.
  • Mistakes an abandoned defensive pass for an ambush, leaving him embarrassed before his subordinates. His caution persists when approaching the next poorly defended town 245 246.
  • Finds townspeople welcoming the Uchiha as a “royal army.” Even his announcement of taxes, tool rentals, and Uchiha land ownership fails to diminish their enthusiasm 248.
  • Allows Sarutobi forces time to assemble near the capital, then uses mobile warfare and encirclement to defeat separated formations. The campaign culminates in a victorious head-on clash with the Sarutobi commander-in-chief’s army 248 250 251.
  • Expects recognition through military medals, but receives a transfer to the southeastern border against the Uzumaki instead of the recall he anticipated 252 253.
