Becoming a Saint in the Age of Myth
"But it truly exists and influences how the world develops."
"Just like the Tenma Constellation before you."
"His connection with Hades in the age of myth destined him to become inextricably entangled with Hades. That is what it means to be fated."
"Some things are destined to be accomplished only by certain people."
"So, my lady, you believe I'm the one who can help you?" Wuxin was utterly taken aback.
But aside from this encounter, he could not remember ever having crossed paths with this lady.
"No!"
The lady in black gauze raised a finger and wagged it, continuing, "You are very special, but you are not the one I need to find."
"However, I saw a break in the flow of fate within you. Your original fate was severed, yet you were cast into a new river of fate."
"Just as a pebble cast into a still lake creates ripples."
"Your arrival disrupted the existing course of fate, and it will also bring new possibilities."
"That is why I chose you!"
"I understand!" Wuxin nodded.
The lady's explanation happened to fit his transmigration perfectly.
Someone wanted to use him to disrupt this world's fate.
Beside him, Tenma listened in a daze, only half understanding. Still, he did not rashly interrupt and listened quietly at the side.
In any case, he was not the candidate who had caught this lady's attention.
Perhaps feeling somewhat tired, the lady in black gauze shifted her position and crossed one leg, revealing a stretch of fair calf beneath her long black gauze dress.
It was then that Wuxin keenly noticed several green vines wound around her calf. They seemed to have sunk completely into her flesh and were connected to the ground.
"Those are..."
His heart jolted. As though something had come back to him, he suddenly formed a bold conjecture.
However, to avoid causing unnecessary trouble, he did not rashly voice it.
Resting her chin on her hand, the lady in black gauze continued, "The Seventh Prison is still very far from here. For the two of you to reach it on your own would likely take a great deal of time and effort."
"Let me send you straight into the Seventh Prison!"
As she spoke, she waved a hand lightly, and a dimensional passage as tall as a person immediately split open before Wuxin and Tenma.
"Thank you for your help, my lady!" Wuxin hurriedly thanked her.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Tenma was equally delighted.
Their destination, the Great Waterfall of Blood, lay on the border between the Seventh Prison and the Sixth Prison.
With this lady's help, things would be much easier for them.
The lady in black gauze took no notice of their thanks. Fixing her gaze on Wuxin, she said, "The Tenma Constellation aside, if you fail to properly complete the task I gave you, you will remain in the Underworld to keep me company forever!"
"And a word of warning: do not be so presumptuous as to think you can secretly open a passage to the human world and leave."
"For I have already left a restrictive mark on you."
"Without my permission, you will never be able to leave the Underworld!"
"Yes. I'll remember that, my lady!"
Wuxin answered heavily, then stepped into the dimensional passage with Tenma, disappearing from the rain-soaked garden.
Upon entering the Seventh Prison, they found another hellish sight before them.
The souls here were different from ordinary souls. Their forms had been twisted, front and back reversed, left and right inverted. Unable to tell directions at all, they staggered aimlessly across the ground.
Whenever they collided, they fell straight to the ground and could not get up for a long time. Like turtles flipped onto their shells, they could only lie helplessly on the ground, struggling wildly.
"What is this place?" Tenma asked curiously.
"Judging by what we're seeing, this should be the Hell of Confusion in the Fourth Trench of the Seventh Prison. It specifically punishes those who deceive people by pretending to wield supernatural powers!" Wuxin quickly reached a conclusion based on his memories.
"Oh, I see!" Tenma nodded.
Seeing that the dimensional passage behind them had closed, he cautiously asked Wuxin, "But, Senior, do you really believe that lady can stop us from leaving Hell?"
"If you knew who she was, you probably wouldn't be asking that!" Wuxin gave him a helpless look.
"You already know who she is?" Tenma was startled.
"Yes!"
Wuxin nodded and said earnestly, "If my guess is right, her true name should be Persephone, a kind goddess who represents seeds and germination."
"Never heard of her!" Tenma scratched his head awkwardly.
"Besides that, she has another, more familiar title. People call her the Queen of the Underworld, the mistress of the Underworld's Hell!" Wuxin replied solemnly.
Chapter 67: The Heavenly Longevity Star Intercepts Them (Part One)
"What? She's the Queen of the Underworld?" Tenma was utterly stunned.
He had never imagined that the one who saved them from the Heavenly Beast Star would actually be the mistress of the Underworld's Hell.
"Could you be mistaken, Senior? How could she be the Queen of the Underworld?" Tenma immediately pressed.
Quickly confirming their direction, Wuxin explained as he walked, "Do you remember Orpheus, the gentleman who played the lyre and guided us earlier?"
"He was a hero from mythology. Legend has it that he entered Hell to save his beloved."
"With his peerless music, he moved Hades and brought back his beloved's soul."
"Sadly, he failed at the final hurdle."
At this point, he thought of Lyra Orphée, who would appear later. The two had almost identical fates.
Orpheus was probably Lyra Orphée's previous incarnation.
Wuxin continued, "Orpheus's goal was very clear, and only Hades and the Queen of the Underworld could help him fulfill his wish."
"So the identity of the lady Orpheus serves goes without saying."
"Other than the Queen of the Underworld, there is no second possibility."
"But aren't the Queen of the Underworld and Hades on the same side? Why would she help us?" Tenma was deeply puzzled.
Wuxin shook his head and smiled. "It's true that Hades and the Queen of the Underworld both belong to the Underworld, but you may not know that their relationship isn't exactly harmonious."
"According to the myths, Hades abducted her from the human world. She did not marry him willingly."
"With that in mind, it makes perfect sense for her to help us in secret and put obstacles in Hades' way."
"Also, don't forget."
"The Queen of the Underworld still needs us to help her with that task. Naturally, she wouldn't let us fall into the Heavenly Beast Star's hands."
"Right, right! That must be it!" Tenma nodded repeatedly.
He had never expected mythology to hold so much important information.
"Then, Senior, do you know what that lady actually wants the fire seed for?" Tenma asked curiously once more.
"No!" Wuxin shook his head.
In truth, he already had an answer in mind, but he did not want to say it aloud.
The stakes were too high. If word got out, they would be in more trouble than they could handle.
For now, it was best for them to pretend they knew nothing.
"That's a real shame!" Tenma could not help sighing.
Meanwhile, after searching the First Prison for a long time without success and discovering that Heavenly Beast Star Pharaoh in the Second Prison had lost contact, Heavenly Heroic Star Lune realized something was wrong.
He immediately reported the situation to Pandora, commander of Hades' Army.
"Pass down my orders. All the Hells are to search simultaneously. You must find Tenma!" Far away in Hades Castle, Pandora issued her command to the commanders of every Hell.
"Yes!"
The many commanders answered in unison, then began sweeping patrols.
Soon, Wuxin and Tenma, who were heading toward the Great Waterfall of Blood, also noticed that the underworld officers and Specters had stepped up their patrols.
However, thanks to Wuxin's disguises, they still managed to fool the many underworld officers and Specters, escaping each scare unscathed.
They continued onward, passing smoothly through the Fourth Trench, Third Trench, and Second Trench before arriving at the First Trench of the Seventh Prison.
"Once we cross this stretch of Hell, we'll reach the Great Waterfall of Blood!" Wuxin told Tenma, pointing ahead.
"That's wonderful! Once we get the Soapberry fruit, we can leave Hell!" Tenma was thrilled.
But he immediately remembered something and shook his head. "No, we still have to complete that lady's request!"
"You won't have to!"
Wuxin looked solemn as he said earnestly, "Once you obtain the Soapberry fruit, I'll send you back to the human world immediately."
"As for me, I'll stay in Hell and continue carrying out that lady's request."
"How could I do that? I absolutely can't leave you here alone, Senior! This place is too dangerous!" Tenma immediately objected.
Wuxin shook his head and said sternly, "I'm skilled at using Sekishiki, so I can disguise myself very well."
"The Specters won't see through my identity so easily."
"Besides, with my current strength, as long as I don't encounter those Specters with the seventh sense, I'll face almost no danger."
"Taking you along would only make things inconvenient!"
"But..."
Hearing that he might be a burden, Tenma's fighting spirit immediately wilted, leaving him at a loss for words.
He truly wanted to help, but he also did not want to become a burden.
"All right, it's settled!"
Without giving Tenma another chance to argue, Wuxin finalized their plan for what came next.
