Luo Lianqing obediently put the cat down and came over, just as expected.

She looked at the noodles topped with two eggs, then at Wen Ce's bowl, which looked very plain with just two stalks of greens, and suddenly remembered that Wen Ce seemed to still be a student.

He had no job at the moment and was renting a place, too. He probably didn't have much left for living expenses.

Luo Lianqing picked up her chopsticks and transferred one of the eggs to his bowl. "One is enough for me. How about I treat you to lunch to say thanks?"

"You're cooking?" Wen Ce looked at her in some surprise.

Luo Lianqing shook her head. "I don't know how. I can take you out to eat."

Wen Ce: ...

"You eat out every day?"

"Pretty much. I can't cook, so sometimes I order delivery, too." Luo Lianqing picked up the fried egg and took a bite. "Eating out is convenient."

Wen Ce sighed. "I'll cook lunch. Come over and eat."

Luo Lianqing's eyes lit up. "Sure! Then I'll buy the groceries. How about we go downstairs together in a bit to get them? I've barely ever browsed the ingredients section."

Looking at those big, expectant eyes, Wen Ce really found it hard to refuse.

He nodded. "Sure, we'll go down in a bit."

Even though he actually already had ingredients in the fridge, he still wanted to go grocery shopping with her.

Luo Lianqing felt that hesitating outside his door for so long this morning before finally working up the courage to knock had been the right choice. Now she had scored not just breakfast but lunch as well, and they could even go grocery shopping together in a bit. What a win!

After finishing a bowl of noodles, Luo Lianqing felt a little stuffed. She reached out to rub her still-flat stomach and said earnestly, "Wen Ce, your cooking is so good."

Wen Ce smiled and nodded. "Thanks. I think it's pretty decent, too."

Luo Lianqing reached for the bowl and chopsticks in his hands. "You cooked, so let me wash up?"

But Wen Ce moved them out of her reach. "You can't even cook. I wouldn't dare count on you knowing how to wash dishes."

Somewhat disgruntled, Luo Lianqing followed him into the kitchen. "You can't put it like that. There's a first time for everything!"

"Didn't you go to university abroad? If you couldn't cook, did you live on takeout?" Wen Ce didn't let her attempt this first so easily.

Luo Lianqing simply stood beside him and watched him wash the dishes. "One of my old roommates was Chinese. I usually just contributed a little extra toward the food budget."

Wen Ce hummed in acknowledgment and turned to look at her. "You always shared a place?"

"Yes. Actually, I went to high school abroad, too." Luo Lianqing frowned slightly. "University as well."

That was something Wen Ce hadn't expected. "You went abroad that early?"

"I went with my mother." Luo Lianqing clearly didn't want to continue the subject, but she finished anyway. "My parents divorced, and I went with my mother. I always attended girls' schools abroad because my mother was rather opposed to me interacting with the opposite sex."

Wen Ce frowned. "What about when you start dating?"

"That's my business. I'm grown up now, after all. I have the right to make my own decisions." Luo Lianqing smiled. "I'm free."

Wen Ce rinsed the bowl in his hands clean and looked at her. "Yes, you're free."

Luo Lianqing really liked how he looked without glasses. She could see his eyes directly.

They were very gentle eyes, and her heart was beating a little fast.

Feeling her face begin to heat up, she quickly looked away. "I'll go back and change. Are we going down to the supermarket to buy ingredients in a bit?"

"Yes, go ahead. Let me know when you're ready." Wen Ce noticed that the skin near her ears seemed to be starting to redden, and a thoughtful look flashed through his eyes.

He didn't know whether he was imagining it, but he kept feeling that something was a little different about Luo Lianqing today.

Luo Lianqing answered with a bright "Okay," ran out, scooped up Egg Yolk, and went home. "I'll call you when I'm ready~"

Wen Ce watched her slender figure disappear through the doorway, and the door closed.

He stood there for quite a while before turning and going into the bedroom to change.

Whatever the case, her willingness to approach him was much more convenient than having to find ways to approach her himself.

About ten minutes later, the two of them headed out together.

Wen Ce also noticed that she had changed into an outfit that looked far too formal. "Are you going out later?"

"No." Luo Lianqing glanced at him. "Why?"

"Oh, you're dressed so formally that I thought you had something on." Wen Ce withdrew his gaze. The outfit showed off Luo Lianqing's figure to great advantage and drew plenty of eyes as she walked down the street.

The middle-aged man who had just shared the elevator with them had kept sneaking looks at her.

Luo Lianqing blinked, wondering whether she was being too obvious, but she didn't let it show. "I just bought this outfit and haven't had a chance to wear it. I felt like wearing it today. Does it look good?"

After saying that, she stared straight at Wen Ce, waiting for his answer.

Wen Ce swept a quick glance over her, then looked away. "It does."

Luo Lianqing was a little disappointed. She really hadn't worn this outfit much, because she felt it showed off her figure a little too much, which she didn't particularly like.

But judging by Wen Ce's reaction, he didn't seem to like it much either? Or was she just too unappealing?

And so silence fell between them again.

Wen Ce led Luo Lianqing to the supermarket's fresh ingredients section and asked, "What would you like to eat?"

Luo Lianqing stared blankly at the vegetables, most of which she couldn't tell apart. "I don't know. I'm not very picky. I'll eat whatever you cook?"

Wen Ce glanced at her and smiled. "You're pretty easy to feed."

"Yeah. Want to keep me fed?" Luo Lianqing replied without thinking.

Only after saying it did she feel that something about those words was a little off. Wen Ce's searching gaze settled on her.

His tone was a little hesitant. "Is that something I can just agree to?"

Luo Lianqing gave a light cough. "Not exactly, but if you want to, you can."

Those words were somewhat ambiguous. For once, Wen Ce gave it some serious thought. Did she mean what he thought she meant?

But wasn't this a rather big change?

Hadn't she still been feeling down over Zhou Chi just last night?

To Luo Lianqing, his silence was a rejection.

Feeling a little let down, she smiled and supplied her own follow-up. "But I don't need anyone to keep me fed. I can support myself."

Wen Ce murmured an acknowledgment and swallowed back the words on the tip of his tongue.

In the end, he took her to pick out tomatoes and broccoli, then bought beef and fish. Finally, when he saw the chicken, he asked her, "Do you like white-cut chicken?"

Thinking he was going to buy some, Luo Lianqing nodded. "I like it quite a lot."

"Then I'll ask my dad to send one over next time. The chickens here don't make good white-cut chicken. The flavor isn't quite there." Even so, Wen Ce still bought half a chicken. "We'll make do today and have mouthwatering chicken."

"Whoever becomes your girlfriend will definitely be happy," Luo Lianqing murmured. "You're handsome, you can cook, and you're gentle, too."

"Handsome?" Wen Ce paused in his tracks. "Then how do I compare to Zhou Chi?"

After saying that, he simply looked at Luo Lianqing, who had yet to process his words.
