History

Attempt to Capture Senju Kenya

Orochimaru investigated the black iron wood circulating on the market and purchased intelligence about Senju Kenya from Danzō. Fascinated by Kenya’s Senju bloodline, unusual Wood Release, and physical strength, he approached Kenya’s fishing boat intending to abduct and dissect him 25.

The capture attempt ended in a severe defeat. Kenya knocked away Orochimaru’s Kusanagi Sword, destroyed his giant snake summon, and battered him against a rocky shore. Orochimaru escaped underground, abandoning a custom submarine containing laboratory equipment and rare medicinal ingredients. Back at his base, he vowed to obtain a better reincarnation vessel and take revenge 26 27 28.

Forest of Death

After learning to fear Kenya’s body, Orochimaru returned to his backup target: Sasuke Uchiha’s Sharingan. Disguised as a Kusagakure examinee, he infiltrated the Forest of Death, immobilized Team 7 with killing intent, and attempted to implant the Cursed Seal of Heaven in Sasuke. Kenya intervened before the bite landed 69.

Kenya’s mockery of his immortality research provoked Orochimaru into another fight. A chakra-enhancing drug, snake formations, and repeated body shedding failed to close the gap between them. Orochimaru coordinated with Sunagakure and secretly cooperated with Danzō, who supplied Konoha’s barrier-defense information and permitted enemy infiltration. Assuming the Fourth Kazekage’s identity, Orochimaru attended the Chunin Exams beside Hiruzen Sarutobi before taking his former teacher hostage. Recruitment into Iron Fist Heavy Industries

Orochimaru later sent Kenya a lengthy apology and cooperation proposal, renouncing hostility toward Konoha and the Senju Clan. He offered his research, laboratories, and captured White Zetsu specimens in exchange for protection and a position as Kenya’s “chief research assistant” 164.

Despite initiating the meeting, Orochimaru trembled when Kenya broke into his underground laboratory. His attitude changed from fearful submission to scientific reverence after Kenya purified the dangerous White Zetsu cells. His pride in science is strong enough that Kenya’s suggestion to replace immortality research with exercise provokes him into attacking despite his fear 25 69 70.

His cruelty coexists with a powerful survival instinct. When defeat becomes unavoidable, he abandons vessels, equipment, wealth, and immediate objectives rather than die.
