Background / History
Serving Jun Ling
Mo Li and Mo Yan witnessed their normally coldhearted master smile over Mu Yunxi. When Mo Yan asked to be pinched to confirm he was not dreaming, Mo Li obliged forcefully. Shortly afterward, Jun Ling ordered Mo Li to cripple both of Zhu Ganglie’s arms because he had touched Mu Yunxi’s hand; Mo Li immediately departed to carry out the order 30.
The two subordinates later watched Mu Yunxi throw Jun Ling into a hot spring and were astonished by their master’s delighted reaction. When questioned about what they had seen, Mo Li admitted to glimpsing Mu Yunxi’s feet, while Mo Yan admitted to seeing her shoulders. Jun Ling ordered both men to receive punishment 32. After returning, they avoided approaching him when his expression suggested he was in a dangerous mood 33.
Mo Li subsequently warned Mo Yan against commenting on Jun Ling’s behavior while their master kissed the unconscious Mu Yunxi. Mo Yan ignored the warning and was blasted away, leaving Mo Li relieved that he had not spoken ill of Jun Ling himself 38.
Protecting Mu Yunxi
Jun Ling ordered Mo Li and Mo Yan to beat Xuanyuan Jin badly enough to leave him bedridden for several months after the prince confronted Mu Yunxi 41.
When Jun Ling agreed to give Mu Yunxi his ten-thousand-year Azure Dragon Ginseng, Mo Li openly reminded him that the herb was meant to save his life. Jun Ling dismissed the objection and told them to find more 42.
In the Mystic Heaven Demon Forest, Mo Li and Mo Yan privately began treating Mu Yunxi as their future young mistress because of Jun Ling’s attachment to her. Her practiced dissection of a Flying Pig unsettled them, while her ability to cripple Mu Yunkai’s arm despite his higher cultivation impressed them 43 44.
After Mu Yunkai attempted to attack the suddenly weakened Mu Yunxi, Jun Ling ordered Mo Li to chop him to pieces. Mo Li and Mo Yan descended from hiding and severed Mu Yunkai’s hands and feet; Mo Yan separately destroyed his vocal cords and killed Mu Yunyi 44 45.
Assigned as Her Guard
After helping Mu Yunxi assimilate the Heavenly Demon Pearl’s power, Jun Ling emerged visibly weakened. Mo Li wanted to support him but restrained himself because he knew his master disliked being touched. Before leaving with Mo Yan, Jun Ling instructed Mo Li to remain behind, protect Mu Yunxi, and direct her to the Ghost Market for the medicinal ingredients she needed 46.
When Mu Yunxi awoke, she detected Mo Li hiding in a tree. He appeared before her and received a punch intended as retaliation against Jun Ling, leaving him with a black eye. Despite this, he respectfully called her “young madam,” promised to relay her warning, and reiterated his orders to protect her 46.
Mo Li also accepted Mu Yunxi’s instruction to have Mu Yunkai and Mu Yunyi’s corpses thrown into their fathers’ rooms. He continued watching over her at the Ghost Market and reported her awakening and angry words through a flying eagle 46 47 48.
At Mu Yunxi’s command, Mo Li later emerged from hiding, hoisted Feng Yun onto his shoulder, and carried him toward the House of Red Delight to be sold 49.
Personality
Mo Li generally maintains an icy expression and responds to orders with formal respect. His exchanges with Mo Yan reveal a dry, cutting sense of humor: he pinches him without restraint, dismisses his complaints, and threatens him when his teasing becomes unwelcome 30.
His loyalty includes genuine concern for Jun Ling’s health. He questions the decision to surrender a life-saving herb and worries when his master’s condition deteriorates, though he remains attentive to Jun Ling’s personal boundaries 42 46.
Despite his composure and willingness to inflict severe violence, Mo Li is not unshakable. Jun Ling’s anger frightens him, and Mu Yunxi’s ruthlessness repeatedly unsettles him. Nevertheless, he treats her respectfully even after she punches him 32 43 45 46 47.
