The gale howled and lightning flashed as thunder roared for nearly half an hour. Ji Yuan and the others, standing at the heart of the wind and lightning, remained there for that entire time. Setting aside their shock at the exaggerated power of this formidable lightning art, the sight of demons and devils everywhere undergoing tribulation together was undeniably spectacular.
The dazzling, blinding lightning gradually began to weaken, and the thunderbolts filling the sky slowly grew sparse. Even the raging winds seemed to be subsiding, while the windblown sand and stones continuously fell from the air.
Some of the demons' wails could gradually be heard, though the occasional "rumble..." of thunder still sounded again, scattered at times and somewhat dense at others, striking the locations where certain demons stood like aftershocks following a great earthquake.
As the wind and thunder gradually began to settle, this endless range of mountains finally revealed its appearance once more. Yet the mountains were no longer as they had been.
As far as the eye could see, mountains and earth alike were scorched black. Not only was everything burnt brown, but large pits lay everywhere. Of the flowers, grass, trees, only incomplete chunks of charred remains were left, still smoking.
Of course, beyond that, demon corpses covered the mountains and fields. Most were utterly miserable, some already mangled beyond recognition, like lumps of charcoal. Some corpses could still be identified by their original forms, while others could not be recognized at all; only the lingering demonic aura upon them and the scorched stench of protein made it clear that they were corpses.
Some bodies were even buried dozens or hundreds of zhang underground. Only scorched holes as thick as water buckets, from which burnt-smelling demonic aura drifted, proved that they had been laid to rest
