Background / History

Ji Yuan was named by his grandfather and grand-uncle, a longtime feng shui master; his family chose the single character Yuan for its poetic quality 1. He retains memories and habits from a previous life, including thanking service workers and reflecting on the social values of the world he now inhabits 38.

Early in his time in this world, he was found unconscious and feverish behind the deity statue of a Mountain God Temple during a rainstorm. Even then, he displayed an abnormal sensitivity to sound, perceiving rain and his surroundings with extraordinary clarity 3. He later purchased and restored Ju'an Pavilion in Ning'an County, making it his enduring home 24.

The Old City God supplied him with cultivation, martial-arts, and chess texts. Ji Yuan quickly mastered the basics of qi guidance and began practicing the Heaven and Earth Transformation technique, Iron Punishment Battle Post, and Eagle Claw Hand 36 37. His cultivation developed alongside his study of chess, calligraphy, swordsmanship, talismans, and the principles of heaven and earth.

Over time, Ju'an Pavilion became a place of guidance and reunion for mortals, demons, gods, and cultivators.
