Background / History
Ying Hong was already the Dragon Lord of the Tongtian River when Ji Yuan attended his birthday banquet. He openly treated Ji Yuan as an honored guest and bowed to thank him before the gathered Water Tribe, an act that surprised the other attendees. Ji Yuan was known as a close friend whom Ying Hong had searched for over three years. 128 130
He shared his personally developed dragon arts with Ji Yuan, including materials on Cloud Riding and Mist Traveling, transformation, and spatial-storage methods. His techniques are highly detailed and rooted in the principles of water control, wind control, and dragon-kind Divine Abilities rather than orthodox Immortal Path practices. 154 175
After the Ink Flood Dragon Mo Rong was maimed by a Nightmare Spell, Ying Hong concluded that hostile forces beyond Great Zhen were responsible. Enraged, he left Great Zhen along the Tongtian River and hunted demons, monsters, ghosts, goblins, and evil cultivators across the surrounding regions. This rampage exposed the far greater-than-expected number of sinister entities around Great Zhen. 229 230
As his children approached major cultivation milestones, Ying Hong became increasingly involved in their futures. He supported Ying Ruoli's Dragon Transformation, arranged to clear waterways and prevent interference, and later reconciled with the Dragon Mother while their daughter walked the waters. 653 848 850 851
During the Great Calamity, Ying Hong and the Dragon Race treated the opening of the Barren Sea as both a matter of dragon prosperity and a struggle to preserve the world's order. He joined the True Dragons in mobilizing water essence, suppressing the Sun's fiery influence, and purging destabilizing monsters from waterways. 1022 1026 1027
Appearance
Ying Hong generally appears as an elderly man when interacting with mortals and cultivators, though his true form is a vast Chi Dragon accompanied by mist, wind, and thunder. 229 849 864
- Usually assumes the form of an old man in robes, including a cross-collared robe when emerging from water. 229
- His dragon form travels amid clouds and mist; its immense body can whip up wind and thunder over the Tongtian River. 849
- Possesses overwhelming Dragon Might, sufficient to intimidate water creatures and command deference from cultivators, ghosts, and gods. 131 238
Personality
Ying Hong is relaxed and seemingly indolent in ordinary matters, admitting that sleeping is more comfortable than patiently observing human affairs. Despite this detached attitude, he is observant, capable of prolonged reflection, and deeply interested in unusual arts and mysteries. 156 175
He can be petty when excluded and takes losses seriously enough to remember them, but he is not stingy toward trusted companions. He readily shares dragon arts with Ji Yuan and places considerable trust in Ji Yuan's judgment. 168 175 655
As a father, Ying Hong is stern and proud, particularly toward Ying Feng, but his concern for both children is genuine. He supports Ying Ruoli's transformation preparations, worries over her safety, and ultimately respects her growing authority among the Dragon Race. 341 653 1011
His view of mortals changes through his friendship with Ji Yuan. Although he once held little regard for human affairs, he recognizes Yin Zhaoxian's integrity and Great Zhen's importance to the broader trend of Heaven and Earth. 864
