Power Progression
Demon Incursion
Demon Incursion demonstrates increasing synchronization and transformation rather than a numbered level system 51 99 137.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Successful activation by Tatsumi | 51 | After receiving the Teigu from Bulat, Tatsumi immediately summons its armor and Red-Backed Shrike spear. His training allows him to withstand its physical burden. |
| Heightened synchronization | 99 | The armor feels lighter and more flexible. Tatsumi becomes closely attuned to its reactions, experiencing pain and weakness even when its exterior shows no damage. |
| Dragon Transformation | 136 137 | Tatsumi accepts the armor’s offer of greater power. Its surface turns dull crimson and develops scales and barbs as the wearer begins merging with the dragon’s soul, losing the ability to distinguish allies from enemies. |
| Destruction and loss of access | 139 141 | Honest’s Erastone destroys the transformed Teigu. Tatsumi survives but can no longer summon the armor. |
History
Imperial Creation
The founding emperor commissioned Teigu to secure his dynasty’s rule. Craftsmen and mystic arts practitioners combined rare materials with Danger Beast remains to create forty-eight weapons with abilities beyond conventional arms. Some were designed for specific duties: Susanoo, for example, was created as a humanoid bodyguard for important figures 15 95.
The royal family concealed its own Teigu from outsiders. According to legend, an earlier emperor activated Shikoutazer while sleepwalking and halved his realm’s population in a single night. The catastrophe also killed specialists in Orichalcum extraction and rune refinement, leaving centuries-long gaps in historical records 139.
Replication and Distribution
Later imperial researchers attempted to reproduce existing Teigu. Grand Chariot was developed as an imitation of Demon Incursion, but its creators could not reproduce the original armor’s invisibility function 47 130.
Former associates of Ogre identify many biological Teigu as technologically produced replicas with significant side effects. By contrast, they describe the “supreme Teigu” carried by imperial elites as usable with comparatively little concern for compatibility 33.
Possession is not restricted to imperial loyalists. Night Raid builds its small, elite force around Teigu users, while the Empire can bestow Teigu as rewards for military achievement, as it does for Run 14 82.
Abilities & Limitations
Specialized Powers
Individual Teigu possess distinct abilities rather than a shared set of powers 15.
- Physical enhancement: Armor-type Teigu can greatly increase strength, speed, and defense 45 51.
- Perception and control: Spectator enhances vision and prediction, while Scream affects listeners’ emotions and awareness 28 46.
- Battlefield utility: Shambhala transports people and attacks through space; Mastema enables flight and precision feather attacks 39 94.
- Conditional output: Pumpkin becomes stronger with its user’s emotional fluctuations, while Enshin’s sword loses power as noon approaches 92 103.
Compatibility and Physical Strain
Some Teigu are described as choosing users with whom they are compatible. Seryu initially understands Koro’s selection in these terms, and being chosen by a biological Teigu is presented as especially difficult 15 16.
- Armor can be lethal to unsuitable users. An ordinary person would die upon equipping Demon Incursion; even Bulat eventually exceeds his body’s tolerance 50 51.
- Grand Chariot also demands exceptional endurance. Wave is selected because few people can withstand its strain 132.
- Repeated use can alter the wearer. Demon Incursion’s dragonification can culminate in the wearer merging with the Danger Beast’s soul and becoming an indiscriminate killing machine 51 137.
- Abilities may depend on the user’s condition. After losing her voice, Cosmina can no longer use her Teigu 102.
Biological Regeneration
Biological Teigu can regenerate repeatedly unless their power cores are destroyed 103.
- Koro enlarges and reshapes its body, repairs holes in its chest almost immediately, and forms a regenerating barrier to protect Seryu 21 103 141.
- Susanoo has an energy core in his heart, which Dotya specifically targets after identifying him as a biological Teigu 95.
- Regeneration does not prevent specialized destruction. Erastone destroys Susanoo despite his status as an ancient, high-ranked humanoid Teigu 139 141.
Counters and Destruction
A Teigu does not guarantee superiority over an opponent 64 91.
- Exceptional martial skill can overcome Teigu users. The Four Rakshasa Demons previously defeated five users barehanded. Izou counters Akame and Tatsumi through swordsmanship, intuition, and sensitivity to killing intent 64 91.
- Invisibility is not complete concealment. Izou locates Tatsumi while Demon Incursion’s invisibility is active 91.
- Pain can interrupt control effects. Bulat drives broken glass into his thigh to resist Scream before losing awareness 46.
- Teigu can be physically destroyed. Adramelech is blasted almost to pieces during Budo’s battle 135.
- Erastone directly dismantles other Teigu. Its arcane energy field breaks down their structure; its gems regenerate at a rate of three per week, while the weapons it destroys do not recover 139 159.
Known Teigu
Weapons and Armor
| Teigu | Known User(s) | Form and Abilities |
|---|---|---|
| Two Cuts for All Things: Ecstasy | Lin Feng → Sheele | Enormous scissors forged from a Super Danger Beast’s scales. Exceptionally tough but as light as a wooden blade; Esdeath says they can cut anything belonging to this world 37 43. |
| Demon Incursion | Bulat → Tatsumi | A blunt sword that manifests dragon-derived armor and the Red-Backed Shrike spear. Provides exceptional offense, defense, mobility, and invisibility, but progressively burdens and transforms its wearer 47 50 51. |
| Grand Chariot | Wave | Summonable armor that dramatically enhances physical performance. An imitation of Demon Incursion without its invisibility function 45 47 130. |
| March of the Dead: Yatsufusa | Kurome | Summons up to eight dead beings killed by its wielder 39. |
| Murasame | Akame | A cursed blade whose wounds rapidly turn victims to ash, making it unsuitable when an intact corpse is required 106 139. |
| Two Great Axes: Belvaac | Daidara | Paired axes that track targets and automatically return to their wielder 43 47. |
| Romantic Artillery: Pumpkin | Mine | A cannon capable of repeated firing without reloading. Its output rises with the user’s emotional fluctuations, theoretically approaching limitless power during an emotional breakdown 92. |
| Purgatory’s Invitation: Rubicante | Bols | Produces wide-area flame attacks and possesses a self-destruct capability 39. |
| Moonlight Beautiful Dance: Whirling Blade Sword | Enshin | Releases cutting, moonlight-like vacuum shock waves. Its power weakens as noon approaches 103. |
| Chaos Scream | Champ | A collection of throwing orbs with different effects, including wind, flame, and explosions. Different orbs can be combined for stronger attacks 84. |
| Thread-based Teigu | Lubbock | Creates nets, restraints, and layered traps. Its nearly invisible Boundary Cutting Thread serves as a desperate offensive option 101. |
| Microphone Teigu | Cosmina | Used with her powerful voice to attack opponents and break restraints; becomes unusable after she loses her voice 101 102. |
Biological and Body-Altering Teigu
| Teigu | Known User | Form and Abilities |
|---|---|---|
| Hundred-Handed Giant: Koro | Seryu | A small, puppy-like biological Teigu that expands into a giant combat form. Enlarges individual body parts, delivers powerful punches, regenerates, and shields its user 15 21 103 141. |
| Lightning Speed: Susanoo | Najenda | A horned humanoid bodyguard wielding a metal staff. Possesses immense strength and speed; Najenda activates Magatama Manifestation through him at considerable personal cost 95. |
| Lionelle: King of Beasts | Leone | Grants exceptional stamina and recovery. Its ultimate technique, Lion Never Dies, accelerates healing; Leone uses its ability to repair Tatsumi’s internal organs and save his life 103 149. |
| Blood Absorption: Absorption Speed | Dotya | Fang-like equipment that allows the user to drain victims into desiccated corpses. Dotya’s accumulated strength is compared to that of countless adult men 94 95. |
| Precision-enhancing Teigu | Dr. Stylish | Gives his hands extraordinary precision, allowing him to place instruments beneath Seryu’s skin without causing noticeable pain 26. |
Perception, Control, and Utility Teigu
| Teigu | Known User(s) | Form and Abilities |
|---|---|---|
| Five-Sight Omnipotent: Spectator | Zanku | Provides insight, farsight, X-ray vision, foresight, and illusion sight. Enables its wielder to read attacks and predict an opponent’s movements 28 29 30. |
| Military Music Dream: Scream | Nyau | A flute that manipulates emotions, produces hallucinations and mental paralysis, and enhances its user. Demon Summoning uses bone-conducted resonance to greatly enlarge and strengthen Nyau’s body 43 46 48. |
| Water Dragon Possession: Black Marlin | Liver | Freely manipulates liquids 43. |
| Thousand-Mile Flight: Mastema | Run | Wing equipment that enables flight and fires feathers with firearm-like precision 39. |
| Shambhala | Syura → Lin Feng | A disc-like spatial transportation device. Teleports targets within its range, redirects attacks into another space, and is said to possess a secret art that banishes targets to another world 94 107 110. |
| Thunder God’s Rage: Adramelech | Budo | Controls lightning and generates an electromagnetic field that paralyzes close-range opponents. Its sensing ability helps Budo evade an incoming feather barrage 123 131 132. |
| Jeweled Headdress Erastone | Honest | A crown-like device that dismantles other Teigu. It also suppresses the toxicity of Honest’s forbidden drug until Lin Feng removes and crushes it 139 159. |
| Shapeshifting Teigu | Chelsea | Allows transformations into people, animals, and objects. Chelsea appears as a marked sheet of paper, hides as an ant, and impersonates a lost little girl 57 123. |
| Demon’s Extract | Esdeath | Identified as Esdeath’s Teigu; she emphasizes that she had already become an imperial general before obtaining it 53. |
Royal Teigu
| Teigu | Known User | Form and Abilities |
|---|---|---|
| Supreme Throne Shikoutazer | Young emperor | A forbidden royal Teigu that transforms half the imperial palace into a colossal mechanical body. Operated through internal controls and armed with the devastating Destruction Orb; ultimately destroyed by Lin Feng 139 141 159. |
Compatibility Experiments
The District Thirteen Imperial Guard’s “aptitude testing room” is initially presented as a facility for measuring compatibility. Its equipment scans subjects beneath a specialized apparatus while a bracelet records bodily functions. Seryu receives numerous green “match” results and believes Koro has chosen her 15 16.
Lin Feng later discovers that the apparatus actually detects electromagnetic signals from implanted chips—not compatibility with a Teigu. Ogre had supplied human subjects to Dr. Stylish for profit, disguising the procedures as compatibility improvement experiments. Seryu recalls being the only person to pass her final round of experiments and first seeing Koro in Stylish’s office 23 26.
- Seryu’s motivation: She had willingly risked shortening her life to improve her compatibility and become stronger 23.
- Stylish’s justification: He described the procedures as surgery with a chance of success or failure and claimed the subjects had volunteered 26.
- Imperial protection: Esdeath defends the experiments as risks taken in pursuit of strength 37.
- Suppression of evidence: Wave was assigned to help Ogre eliminate people who knew about the experiments, but concealed his strength and stood aside because he did not want the truth erased 62.
Distinction from Innate Powers
- Lin Feng’s Alucard abilities are not established as Teigu powers. He tells Seryu to think of him as someone born with a Teigu’s abilities, while his regeneration, shadows, and familiars originate from his Template System 21 26.
- Other characters repeatedly misidentify his abilities. Honest assumes killing Lin Feng will reveal his Teigu, while Esdeath speculates that he possesses separate shadow and regeneration Teigu 52 53.
- Not all supernatural beings are Teigu users. The Path of Peace’s leader is a human–Danger Beast hybrid with innate healing, foresight, and insight into others’ hearts 63.
- Resurrection is outside known Teigu capabilities. Night Raid and Honest are astonished by Lin Feng’s apparent revival of the dead. Lin Feng explains that he supplied blood before the victims’ brain cells died, transforming them into vampires rather than truly resurrecting them 106 111 130 157.
