| Imperial assassination training | 31 91 | Before the main events, trained under Gozuki and became one of the seven members of the Empire’s former assassination unit. |
| Murasame wielder | 64 66 | Acquired Murasame after killing Gozuki. Its power allows her to kill with any slash that leaves a wound, provided she maintains the required emotional control. |
| Vampire transformation | 110 111 | Revived through Lin Feng’s blood and Alucard power. Awakens with paler skin, crimson irises, and substantially increased physical speed; even a light practice swing exceeds her expectations. |
| Alucard resonance | 143 | Lin Feng’s proximity awakens and strengthens the vampire power within her blood, helping her regenerate after Shikoutazer’s attack. This is a proximity-based enhancement rather than a separate named rank. |
Background
Akame and her younger sister, Kurome, were trained to serve the Empire. Their instructor, Gozuki, brought Akame into the assassination unit and became a father figure to her. His training subjected both sisters to conditioning intended to turn them into obedient, merciless killers 31 91.
Akame eventually killed Gozuki, took his Demon Sword Murasame, and left Imperial service for Night Raid. Kurome remained loyal to the palace and resolved to kill her older sister herself 38 64 66.
Appearance
- Hair and build: Waist-length black hair and a slender figure 31.
- Clothing: A small uniform with a red tie; she is later described wearing a long tunic 31 108.
- After revival: Paler skin and crimson irises 110.
- Distinguishing resemblance: Her face closely resembles Kurome’s, although Kurome wears her hair short 38 119.
- Constant companion: Keeps Murasame beside her even while eating 119.
Personality
Akame is calm, direct, and pragmatic during missions. Murasame requires her to suppress emotion and remain rational, making mental discipline essential to her fighting style. Despite her lethal profession, she avoids unnecessary confrontations with people outside her assassination list, allowing two uninvolved men to escape during the attack on Ogre’s station 19 91 106.
Her composure does not mean she lacks affection. She thanks Lin Feng for saving Tatsumi, offers to risk her life to help Tatsumi develop his potential, and becomes deeply distressed when he is gravely injured protecting her. After learning that Leone has kept him alive, she clasps Leone’s hand in gratitude 31 99 143 149.
Akame remains committed to overthrowing the corrupt order even when Night Raid faces overwhelming opposition. After the final battle, she expresses a desire to help build the new Empire 140 160.
Abilities & Skills
Assassination and Stealth
A professionally trained assassin whose attacks emphasize concealment, precision, and exploiting openings 64 91 135.
- Conceals her presence before launching a quick-draw attack against Izou 91.
- Uses directional feints and hidden follow-up strikes; Honest identifies four attacks within one sequence 135.
- Recognizes Suzuka’s reconnaissance skills as a continuing threat after Bolic’s death 71.
Swordsmanship
Akame combines rapid sword attacks with the threat of Murasame’s one-cut killing effect 18 91.
- Quick-draw and combination attacks: Uses sudden draws and successive slashes aimed at an opponent’s flank 91.
- Instruction: Trains Tatsumi in swordsmanship and later advises him on conserving stamina while Demon Incursion strengthens 29 99.
- School identification: Izou identifies her techniques as the Shinsai School associated with Gozuki. Akame herself initially says she knows nothing about that school 91.
- Limits: Izou repeatedly counters her established techniques and wounds her by attacking an opening after her combination 91 92.
Speed, Agility, and Unarmed Combat
Her mobility is already exceptional before her vampire transformation, and her unarmed skills remain dangerous even without Murasame 18 31 67.
- Outpaces Ogre and blocks his escape route with a leap 18.
- Moves fast enough to leave Lubbock behind during their approach to Bolic’s residence 64.
- Recovers Murasame with an aerial maneuver after Ibara drops it; Ibara acknowledges her hand-to-hand ability as among the Empire’s best 67.
- Crosses treetops with such precise footing that the branches barely react beneath her 140.
Vampire Constitution and Regeneration
Lin Feng’s revival gives Akame enhanced physical performance and rapid tissue recovery 110 111 120.
- Increased speed: A lightly executed sword movement becomes far faster than she intends 111.
- Rapid healing: A stab through her abdomen from Kurome’s Yatsufusa closes within seconds, leaving no visible trace 120 121.
- Resonance: Her blood responds to Lin Feng’s proximity, strengthening her recovery 143.
- Limits: Severe damage and exhaustion can still overwhelm her. After Shikoutazer’s attack, she struggles to carry Tatsumi, and her recovery cannot immediately restore her mobility 143 145.
Equipment
- One-cut killer: Demon Sword Murasame — Gozuki’s former Teigu, taken by Akame after his death 64 66.
- A single wound is enough to kill a victim and reduce the body to ash; striking a vital organ is unnecessary 18 19 106.
- Requires Akame to clear her mind of emotional disturbance to use its killing power 19 91 143.
- Rejects Ibara after he steals it, emitting purple light and inflicting crushing pain until he releases it 66 67.
- Must actually penetrate its target. It cannot scratch Shikoutazer’s diamond-and-Orichalcum armor, and Honest avoids injury by catching the blade against reinforced footwear 135 136 140.
Relationships
- Kurome — Younger sister and former fellow Imperial trainee. Kurome initially seeks to kill her, but Akame allows herself to be stabbed to demonstrate her regeneration and helps challenge Kurome’s loyalty to the palace. Kurome later chooses to fight beside her and asks to become the same race 38 120 121 140 160.
- Lin Feng — Initially an obstacle to her assassination of Ogre, then a potential recruit whose strength she considers unfathomable. He later revives her, becomes the leader of the reformist faction she serves, and saves her and Tatsumi from Shikoutazer 18 31 87 110 121 145.
- Tatsumi — Teammate and swordsmanship student. Akame guides his development; he later suffers near-fatal injuries shielding her from Shikoutazer, and she carries him to safety 29 99 143 145.
- Gozuki — Former instructor and father figure. His conditioning shaped her early life, but she ultimately killed him and took Murasame 64 91.
- Lubbock — Mission partner during the operation against Bolic; they also coordinate attacks against Honest 64 71 135.
- Leone — Fellow Night Raid member whom she cautions about scamming people. Akame later thanks her for using Lionelle’s ultimate technique to keep Tatsumi alive 11 149.
- Ibara — Former associate from Gozuki’s circle and opponent during the Bolic operation. His dying confession reflects his attraction to powerful people rather than an established romance with Akame 64 67.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Ogre and the First Encounters with Lin Feng
Akame attacks an Imperial Guard station, killing the oil merchant Jamal and two accomplices before pursuing Captain Ogre. Lin Feng’s summoned hellhound stops her blade, allowing Ogre to escape. Rather than continue fighting an opponent she recognizes as overwhelmingly dangerous, Akame leaves him evidence against Ogre after he promises to deal with the captain himself 18 19.
She encounters Lin Feng again after he kills Zanku and saves Tatsumi. Akame thanks him and invites him to join Night Raid, but he refuses, choosing to pursue justice from within the Empire. She and Tatsumi subsequently worry about the possibility of facing him as an enemy 31 32.
The Bolic Assassination Operation
Assigned to infiltrate Bolic’s residence with Lubbock, Akame is intercepted by Ibara. He overpowers and disarms her, but Murasame rejects him. Akame retrieves the sword and kills him with a slash to the abdomen 64 66 67.
After Bolic’s death, she questions his surviving consorts and discovers that Suzuka escaped. She warns Lubbock that Suzuka’s reconnaissance abilities make her a future danger 71.
Wild Hunt and the Staged Destruction of Night Raid
During Night Raid’s attack on Wild Hunt, Akame and Tatsumi struggle against Izou. His familiarity with Gozuki’s techniques allows him to counter her attacks and wound her. Akame shifts toward supporting Tatsumi’s growth, but Lin Feng intervenes before Izou can land a devastating iai strike 91 92 99 100.
Akame accepts Lin Feng’s plan to fake Night Raid’s destruction and revive its captured members as vampires. He presents her, Mine, Leone, and Najenda to Honest, falsely crediting Akame with killing the other Wild Hunt members. After their deaths, he transports them to his residence and revives them through his blood 106 108 110 130.
Reunion with Kurome
Wave brings Kurome to Lin Feng’s residence, where she finds Akame alive and eating roast meat. When Kurome becomes hostile, Akame insists on handling the confrontation herself. She permits Yatsufusa to pierce her abdomen and demonstrates her new regenerative ability 119 120.
Akame then explains that she now serves Lin Feng within the Empire’s own ranks. Together with Wave, she presents Kurome with a choice between Honest’s faction and Lin Feng’s reformists 121.
Palace Battle and Aftermath
Akame joins the confrontation with Honest, but his drug-enhanced strength lets him evade her concealed strikes and immobilize Murasame. Her attempt to seize the young emperor is followed by the deployment of Supreme Throne Shikoutazer 131 135 139.
Unable to damage the machine’s armor alone, she coordinates an attack with Tatsumi. He shields her from its Destruction Orb and is critically injured. Akame carries him away, surviving another imminent attack when Lin Feng’s shadows restrain the machine’s foot 140 142 143 145.
After recovering consciousness, Akame learns that Leone has kept Tatsumi alive. Following Lin Feng’s victory, she watches over Tatsumi at the villa and volunteers to help build the new Empire 149 160.
Notable Quotes
“Put Murasame down. It won’t recognize you.” 66
“We can’t give up yet.” 140
Trivia
- Akame is an avid meat lover who can finish a haunch comparable in size to a Danger Beast’s limb within minutes—an amount several grown men might struggle to eat 119.
- She declines to help wound Syura during Lin Feng’s demonstration because Murasame would turn him to ash, violating the requirement to leave his corpse intact 106.
