Family Patriarch and Guardian

Meng Zhongqi belonged to a hidden family with more than a thousand years of inheritance. His grandfather, the Meng Family's thirteenth patriarch, had reached rank ninety-seven. Despite qualifying to inherit the family's Soul Bones, Zhongqi initially preserved them for his more talented son, Meng Yunping: his own poison-damaged body made further investment seem wasteful 10 21.

He met Nangong Wan'er while traveling with an adventuring team in his youth. The couple later raised Meng Qianqiu during his parents' prolonged absence 1 53.

Zhongqi personally conducted Qianqiu's Martial Soul awakening and discovered his Twin Martial Souls and innate full Soul Power. To protect him, he concealed both achievements; although he initially proposed reporting rank-nine innate Soul Power, he ultimately told Dugu Xin that the boy had awakened at rank eight 1 2 3.

Recovery and Titled Douluo Breakthrough

Qianqiu's discovery of ten-thousand-year whale glue restored Zhongqi's health sufficiently for him to reconsider using the ancestral Soul Bones. He treated his own breakthrough as a necessity: without a Titled Douluo's protection, Qianqiu's exceptional talent could bring disaster upon the family 9 10.

After reaching rank ninety, Zhongqi accompanied Nangong Wan'er and Qianqiu into Sunset Forest. He defeated the Nine-Section Jade Snake Emperor and Medusa Queen, then helped bring the wounded serpent into the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Once it produced a hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring, he killed it and absorbed the ring 12 13 15 16 17.

He subsequently accepted Qianqiu's dangerous immortal-herb tempering method. The successful treatment gave him a golden body and Soul Core, greatly expanding his cultivation prospects 17 18.

Spirit Hall and the Five Great Families

Zhongqi joined Spirit Hall as part of a strategy to obtain institutional protection while preserving the Meng Family's independence. Qian Daoliu provisionally appointed him fifth elder, and his coronation took place in Spirit City in midsummer of Douluo Calendar year 2574. His hundred-thousand-year ninth ring became a public demonstration of Spirit Hall's growing strength 20 21 22.

The other four hidden families subsequently became Meng Family vassals. Zhongqi nevertheless insisted that their enduring foundation was their thousand-year alliance—not Spirit Hall or the Heaven Dou Empire. He arranged for Nangong Wan'er to represent the family's interests on the imperial side while he maintained its Spirit Hall connections 51 52.

His reputation also served as a deterrent. Rumors that his Martial Soul had shortened his remaining lifespan made other powers especially reluctant to provoke someone capable of catastrophic retaliation 22 41.

Supporting Meng Qianqiu

Zhongqi repeatedly secured Soul Beasts for his grandson's unusually demanding ring configuration 6 29 36 49.

He eventually revealed that Qianqiu's parents had entered Slaughter City seeking the Slaughter God's inheritance and handed over the Ring Refining Secret Technique and Seven Kill Sword Technique. When Qianqiu entered the city himself, Zhongqi gathered information and considered going in after him. Their reunion brought back Ye Chenxi and revealed that Meng Yunping survived as a Soul Spirit with a possible path to resurrection 66 76.

Zhongqi also accepted Ci Xue as his direct disciple, drawing the poison-attribute Soul Master away from Qian Xunji's camp and recommending him to Qianqiu 78 79.

Sea God's Examination and Later Battles

At Qianqiu's direction, Zhongqi refined the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud—the Sea God's Heart—and received the Sea God's Nine Trials. He and Nangong Wan'er spent nearly four years on Sea God Island before returning to the continent. His final trial required killing the nine-hundred-and-ninety-thousand-year-old Deep Sea Demonic Whale King, for which he intended to seek Ye Chenxi's assistance 77 128.

He formally resigned from his Spirit Hall Worship position to pursue the examination 133.

In the later battle against Tang Chen, Zhongqi immobilized him with Unfixed Storm, allowing Ye Chenxi to deliver the killing strike. Afterward, he helped inspect Tang Chen's Soul Bones and promised further hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast hunts to strengthen Qianqiu's followers 140.

Personality

Zhongqi is protective and willing to sacrifice his own advancement for his descendants. He endured years of poisoning while preserving inherited resources for his son, then pursued greater strength when his grandson's talent made stronger protection essential. His concern does not prevent him from supporting calculated risks, but he repeatedly criticizes Qianqiu for gambling with his life 10 29 51.

As a patriarch, he combines favors with displays of authority. He uses marriages, institutional affiliations, vassal relationships, and competing political allegiances to safeguard the family. He is also conscious that personal strength does not excuse violating established relationships, warning against coercing the Bai Family because of its ties to Tang Chen 32 51 52.

His reserve gives way to pride and theatrical confidence after his breakthrough. He recites a grandiose verse before confronting the Wind Fire Demon Dragons, yet remains cautious about unnecessary trouble and the political implications of a Spirit Hall elder's actions 19 35 37.

Vermilion-Eyed Ice Toad

His inherited Martial Soul combines ice, fire, and poison. Initially identified as a top-tier Beast Martial Soul, it is later described as an ultimate Martial Soul 1 13 36.
