"Did the captain bring Little Bell too?"
Shen Heng looked in the direction from which the sound came with some surprise.
Little Bell is the captain's daughter.
Shen Heng had only heard bits and pieces of information about her from other people.
Of all the people at the Linhai City Supervision Bureau, it seems only Han Ling had ever seen Little Bell.
After all, it's really not appropriate to bring children to the Supervision Bureau.
But today...
Shen Heng walked towards the direction from which the sound came.
Before long, two figures, one tall and one short, came into his sight.
Shen Heng glanced at Captain Wang Hai, then looked towards the Xiaoxiao figure.
The little girl looked about five or six years old, with a round face and two pigtails on her head.
Upon seeing someone arrive, she tugged at Wang Hai's sleeve with a hint of delight.
"Dad, look, someone's coming!"
Wang Hai nodded, and just as he was about to speak, the little girl spoke first.
"Dad, don't say anything yet, let me ask him myself!"
After saying that, the little girl turned to look at Shen Heng.
"Uncle, my Wang Xiaoman, and my nickname Little Bell. What's your name?"
"Me?" Shen Heng walked over to Little Bell and squatted down. "My name is Shen Heng. Have you heard of me?"
"I've never heard of that. Dad doesn't talk about work at home."
Little Bell shook her head, then a smile suddenly appeared on her face.
"But that doesn't matter, we know each other now, don't we?"
Shen Heng was taken aback for a moment, then a smile appeared on his face.
"Yes, we know each other now!"
"So, do you prefer SpongeBob SquarePants or Patrick Star?"
"Oh, this..."
Little Bell asked several questions in a row, and Shen Heng answered them one by one, asking for their answers in return.
After a long while, Wang Hai spoke up to stop him:
"Alright, Bell, Uncle's here on business. Why don't you go play over there for a bit?"
"Okay, fine!"
Little Bell nodded with a hint of regret.
She turned her head and looked around, then walked towards a potted plant.
Seeing his daughter walk to the side, Wang Hai then turned to look at Shen Heng.
Why did you come here?
"The New Year is over, so I came here!" Shen Heng said with a smile.
Wang Hai gave Shen Heng a deep look.
Although Shen Heng didn't say it explicitly, he could understand what Shen Heng was thinking.
He said, "You don't need to worry about that. For me, being on duty is nothing."
Shen Heng smiled but did not reply.
He shifted his gaze to the Little Bell beside him, which was curiously touching the plant's branches and leaves.
"It may not mean much to you, but isn't this a bit too lonely for the child?" Shen Heng said softly.
Upon hearing this, Wang Hai paused for a moment, his gaze gently falling on his daughter.
Shen Heng continued, "Captain, why don't you take Little Bell back? I'll take over the duty shift today."
Wang Hai watched the little girl trying to poke a hole in the branch.
After a long while, he turned his head and slowly shook his head.
"No need, I'll take the shift today!"
Shen Heng glanced at the determined-looking captain and slowly nodded.
He had said everything he could, and the captain's decision was a well-considered one, so there was really no need to say anything more.
Besides, the New Year is almost over now, and even if the captain takes Little Bell back now, all he can do is comfort Little Bell to sleep.
Instead of persisting with this issue today, it would be better to bring up the matter of changing the duty personnel again closer to the Chinese New Year next year.
After all, if she were to work during the Chinese New Year holiday, Xu Yuqin would probably just rant about a fictitious boss.
If the team leader is always on duty during the Lunar New Year, it might be a regrettable childhood for Little Bell.
"However, I do have something I need to trouble you with." Wang Hai looked at Shen Heng.
"Yes, Captain, what is it?" Shen Heng said.
"I was originally planning to call my parents to pick Little Bell up, but since you're here, could you please take her home for me?" Wang Hai said.
Just as Shen Heng was about to nod in agreement, he abruptly stopped and glanced at the doorway in surprise.
"What's wrong?" Wang Hai asked.
"Han Ling is here," Shen Heng replied.
Not long after, a series of footsteps came from outside the corridor.
Soon, a figure appeared in front of the two.
"Yo, Captain, Shen... Shen... Shen..."
Han Ling stared wide-eyed.
"Shen Heng, what are you doing here?"
"If you can come over, why can't I?" Shen Heng said with a smile, glancing at the insulated food container in Han Ling's hand.
"However, I didn't think things through. I was only thinking about coming to relieve the team leader or to keep him company; I didn't even consider bringing him some food!"
"Uh... yes!" Han Ling smiled somewhat awkwardly.
Just then, Little Bell spotted Han Ling and ran over to her quickly.
"Aunt Ling!"
"Hey, Little Bell, you're here today too?"
Han Ling crouched down and picked up Little Bell, who had run over.
Shen Heng watched the scene unfold with a smile on his lips.
After chatting with the Little Bell Little Bell a while, Han Ling put it down.
She held Little Bell in one hand and carried a thermos in the other, walking towards Shen Heng and Wang Hai.
"Shen Heng, you're here just in time, so let's try some together. This is my special braised goose," Han Ling said as she unpacked the insulated container.
"You have this skill too?" Shen Heng chuckled.
"Of course!"
Han Ling then handed the chopsticks to the two of them.
"Me too! Me too!" Little Bell jumped up and down, raising one hand.
"Don't worry, I'm sure no one would dare forget Little Bell!" Han Ling smiled and handed Little Bell a pair of chopsticks.
Shen Heng picked up a piece of goose meat and took a bite. The juices flowed down his teeth, and the salty, savory, and slightly sweet flavor instantly filled his mouth.
"I must say, it's really delicious!" Shen Heng exclaimed, swallowing the goose meat in his mouth.
"Yes, yes, Aunt Ling made this... this..."
"Braised goose!" Han Ling reminded her.
"Aunt Ling's braised goose is so delicious!" Little Bell exclaimed excitedly.
Having received praise from the two men, Han Ling's lips curled into a wide smile.
She eagerly turned her gaze to the last person.
Under Han Ling's gaze, Wang Hai nodded slightly.
"Mmm, it's delicious!"
Upon hearing this, Han Ling's smile widened even further.
The box of braised goose was quickly finished, and afterwards, Han Ling played with Little Bell for a while.
Wang Hai glanced at the time on the wall, then turned to Han Ling and said:
"Alright, it's getting late, Han Ling. Could you please take Little Bell home?"
"Okay!"
Han Ling responded and then stretched out her palm toward the Little Bell.
"Little Bell, let's go!"
Knowing she was leaving, Little Bell's smile faded a little, and she turned to look at Wang Hai.
"Dad, we're leaving now!"
Wang Hai nodded and smiled:
"Okay, go ahead, be a good girl and listen to Aunt Ling. I'll have Grandpa and Grandma wait for you downstairs. Daddy's going back tomorrow!"
"Um!"
Little Bell nodded vigorously.
Shen Heng and Wang Hai stood at the door watching the two leave.
After the two figures disappeared from sight, Wang Hai suddenly turned to look at Shen Heng.
"Headquarters issued a notice today, asking you to participate in the first training camp."
