Personality

Han Ling is outgoing and teasing. She laughs at Shen Heng’s decision to verify Wang Hai’s credentials with the police and regularly mocks Wu Cheng’s cautious fighting style and choice of a shield. She nevertheless enthusiastically welcomes Shen Heng when he joins the squad 18 38.

Her confidence in the team’s protection sometimes leads her to underestimate danger. Although she initially questions whether Shen Heng’s support ability would leave him unsafe in combat, she later encourages him to attend a mission before he has entered a tier. Wang Hai reprimands her for assuming they will always be able to protect him 7 23.

She enjoys playing cards with her colleagues, but abandons those plans to cultivate after Shen Heng’s prolonged training inspires Wei Leyang to do the same. She also recognizes the persistence behind Shen Heng’s unusually rapid advancement 19 39.

Shen Heng’s Recruitment

Han Ling accompanies Wang Hai to Shen Heng’s hospital room after they bring him in following his defeat of the Mutilated Hound. She jokingly claims they saved him, but Wang Hai emphasizes that Shen Heng killed the beast himself 4.

She helps explain the limitations of seemingly useful abilities, including weather prediction and communication with plants. After leaving the room, she questions the safety of recruiting an F-rank support user. Wang Hai explains that Shen Heng’s intelligence-gathering could prevent problems like their earlier failure to recapture a concealed Shadow Cat 6 7.

At Shen Heng’s welcome dinner, Han Ling introduces herself as a Tier 2 user of B-rank Explosion and raises her glass to welcome him 18.

Wanxiang Street Sewer Battle

During the investigation of two people dragged underground, Han Ling notices a shattered manhole-cover fragment. After Wang Hai estimates the force needed to break it, she concludes that the beast must be at least Tier 2 24.

She enters the sewer with Wang Hai and Wu Cheng, where they encounter an unfamiliar Tier 3 rat beast. Her explosive rounds wound it, but it destroys the team’s headlamps and repeatedly batters her in the darkness. Wu Cheng burns his clothes to restore light, and Wang Hai holds the beast’s jaws open so she can shoot into its mouth before he kills it 25 26 27 28.

Wei Leyang helps extract her from the sewer, and Le Gu Nan treats her injuries at the bureau 29 30.

Abandoned Development Hunt

Han Ling joins the hunt for a Calamity Beast at an unfinished housing development. Once Shen Heng discovers that it is moving along the exterior wall, she rushes to an open edge and shoots it. Its simultaneous sonic attack knocks her unconscious, sending her falling until Wei Leyang catches her with his threads 41 44 45.

When the team struggles to trap the beast, Shen Heng privately shares a plan through phone messages to avoid its enhanced hearing. Han Ling points out that their initial deception might arouse suspicion, prompting him to add a timed recording of her voice 48 49.

Shen Heng carries her to a different firing position, disguising their movement as a single person’s footsteps while the recording suggests she remains behind. The ambush succeeds: Han Ling shoots the beast through the head and subsequently confirms its death 49 50.
