The two waited where they were for another half hour or so.
At last, the two workers repairing the traffic lights walked over.
They looked around, then approached Shen Heng, who had been following Wang Hai earlier.
"Officer, we've finished fixing the traffic lights. Is there anything else you need us for here?"
"Hold on!" Shen Heng replied briefly, then looked at Wei Leyang.
"Give me a moment!" Wei Leyang said, then walked toward his Porsche.
Was he going to get a confidentiality agreement? Shen Heng wondered.
Before long, Wei Leyang returned with something, but it wasn't a confidentiality agreement. It was a spray can with a solid black body.
He walked up to the two workers and, without a word, raised the spray can and sprayed it at one worker's mouth and nose.
"Officer, what are you doing?" The other worker looked at Wei Leyang in some surprise.
"Heh... you know too much!" Wei Leyang gave a cold chuckle, swiftly turned the spray can, and sprayed that worker too.
Shen Heng watched the scene before him, somewhat speechless. He wasn't particularly worried, though. This was probably the procedure Wang Hai had just mentioned.
After spraying both men, Wei Leyang lowered the spray can in his hand. The two men who had been sprayed immediately grew somewhat dazed.
"All right, go sit in your vehicle for ten minutes. Once your heads clear a little, get back to whatever you need to do!" Wei Leyang told them.
"All... all right..." the two answered hazily.
Watching the two walk toward their maintenance vehicle on somewhat unsteady feet, Shen Heng turned to Wei Leyang and asked in puzzlement, "What was that just now?"
"Standard procedure. Erase their memories so news of the Calamity Beasts doesn't leak out and cause panic!" Wei Leyang shook the spray can at Shen Heng.
"Erase their memories? That's actually possible? I thought they'd be signing confidentiality agreements." Shen Heng was still somewhat astonished.
"Heh, what good would confidentiality agreements do? These ordinary civilians would leak it in no time. What would we do then, fine them or detain them?"
Wei Leyang smiled. "Besides... strictly speaking, this doesn't erase memories. It blurs them. It's like blacking out from drinking and not remembering what happened last night. The memories are actually still in your brain, just hidden somewhere very deep!"
"That's still a little outrageous, isn't it? Is that something science can do?" Shen Heng frowned slightly.
"Of course it isn't science. We have abilities, don't we?" Wei Leyang said with a smile.
"An ability? What kind of ability is this?" Shen Heng asked.
"That I don't know, but I heard it's the ability of someone at headquarters. That person's been raking in points by the bowlful with this ability!" Wei Leyang walked toward his car as he spoke. "Let's go. We're heading back too!"
Shen Heng nodded and followed Wei Leyang into his Porsche.
Ten-odd minutes later, the black Porsche slowly came to a stop outside the Supervision Bureau.
Shen Heng got out of the passenger seat and glanced curiously at the black Maybach parked nearby and the middle-aged man who looked to be in his forties standing at the Supervision Bureau's entrance.
"Stop looking. That's Le Gu Nan's family's car, and that's her family's bodyguard!" Wei Leyang got out of the car.
Shen Heng nodded, and the two headed into the Supervision Bureau.
As soon as they entered the lobby, they could see several figures gathered around the seats on the right.
Wu Cheng, who had been stark naked earlier, had now changed into fresh clothes. Wang Hai had changed his clothes as well.
Apart from those two, the injured Han Ling was sitting in a seat. Beside her, a girl in an ivory dress gently raised her hand, silver-gray threads spilling from her fingertips and slowly merging into Han Ling's body.
Shen Heng's gaze instinctively fell on the girl.
She was a little over 1.6 meters tall, with delicate, harmonious features and a faint scholarly air about her brows and eyes.
Her fingertips hovered lightly above Han Ling's body, silver-gray threads flowing like moonlight. Fragmented syllables slipped from her lips, like a nursery rhyme a grandmother would sing to lull a child to sleep.
"Fireflies, oh fireflies... alighting on white gauze..."
Wang Hai glanced at the two returning men without speaking. Everyone stood to the side, waiting silently.
Another ten-odd minutes passed before the girl slowly raised her hand, the silver-gray threads gradually fading in her grasp.
"Sister Ling, all done!" the girl said softly.
At that, Han Ling immediately pulled the girl's hand into her embrace. "Ah, Gu Nan, thank you so much for this. Otherwise, who knows how long I'd have had to recuperate!"
Le Gu Nan smiled gently. "It's all right. For now, this is the only way my ability can help you!"
"It's so good to have you, Gu Nan. Hurry up and graduate, then come roll with me!" Han Ling called, linking arms with Le Gu Nan.
Le Gu Nan smiled gently without saying anything more.
"Miss, if the treatment is complete, it's time to head back. Otherwise, the master and the others will worry!" the bodyguard standing at the entrance reminded her.
"What's the rush? Can't you give her a little more time?" Han Ling called to the bodyguard with a hint of displeasure.
The bodyguard merely lowered his head slightly without answering.
"Sister Ling, don't blame him. He's only doing what my family told him to!" Le Gu Nan said softly.
She slowly rose from her seat and looked at Wang Hai and Han Ling. "Captain, Sister Ling, if there's nothing else, I'll be going!"
"Mm, sorry for the trouble tonight!" Wang Hai nodded.
"Ah, all right!" Han Ling could only nod along regretfully.
Seeing that there was nothing else, Le Gu Nan turned and headed toward the entrance. As she passed Shen Heng, she instinctively glanced at him, seemingly because she had never seen him before.
As their eyes met, Shen Heng suddenly remembered that she had helped treat his arm last week, so he spoke up:
"Hello, my name is Shen Heng. I just joined the Supervision Bureau. Thank you for helping treat my arm last week!"
Le Gu Nan's steps toward the exit paused slightly. She was silent for a moment, then a smile suddenly rose on her face.
"Hello, my name is Le Gu Nan. Please don't feel you need to dwell on what happened last time!"
