Saber Training
"Um, hello!"
The young man, carrying a wooden box on his back, slowly approached the front desk with slightly hesitant steps.
"I am Yu Jingming, and I was invited to teach swordsmanship to an inspector named Shen Heng!"
Shen Heng looked at the young man in front of him with some surprise, not for any other reason, but because the person in front of him was too young.
"Hello, I am Shen Heng!"
"Hello, hello!" The young man nervously reached out and shook hands.
Shen Heng scrutinized his face for a few moments, then asked with some curiosity, "How old are you?"
"I'm 19, but you can rest assured, my swordsmanship is still pretty good!" Yu Jingming quickly explained.
"No, I just noticed you look quite young, so I was curious and asked." Shen Heng smiled. "By the way, have you eaten yet?"
"Yes, I ate at home before coming over!" Yu Jingming nodded.
"Home? You're from Linhai City?" Shen Heng looked at Yu Jingming with some surprise.
"Yes, that's right!"
Shen Heng thought for a moment, then asked with some curiosity, "Do you only teach in Linhai?"
"No, in the surrounding provinces, if any inspectors want to learn how to use a knife, we're the ones who teach them. It just so happens that this time it's Linhai!" Yu Jingming replied.
Shen Heng nodded in realization. He had been wondering why, given the current rate of new recruits at the Supervision Bureau and the distribution of various weapons, it shouldn't be possible for every city to have an instructor. That would make finding and maintaining instructors for various weapons a very troublesome matter.
Yu Jingming about governing several surrounding provinces is probably because knives are considered a large category of weapons. If it were a smaller category, such as a meteor hammer or a shield, there might only be one person teaching it in the entire country.
"If you have nothing else to do, shall we head to the training room and begin the lesson?" Shen Heng asked.
"Okay, sure!" Yu Jingming nodded repeatedly.
"Follow me!"
As Shen Heng spoke, he led the way toward the training room, with Yu Jingming following closely behind.
On the way, Shen Heng thought of what Fan Hong had mentioned earlier about a country that offered awakening opportunities in exchange for ancient martial arts inheritance, and asked with some curiosity:
"Do you own your own martial arts school?"
"Our family runs our own martial arts school, but it's just a small one. It can't compare to the big schools like Taekwondo or Judo." Yu Jingming smiled shyly, seemingly a little embarrassed about the small size of his family's martial arts school.
"In today's society, you can't just carry a knife around. Even if someone wanted to learn, they would definitely prioritize those who don't use weapons!" Shen Heng expressed his understanding.
"Yeah, that's right. But luckily, my great-grandfather's generation was somewhat famous, so people have been signing up all the time. Although it's not many, it's still about ten people, so we can barely make ends meet!" Yu Jingming said, scratching the back of his head unconsciously.
Shen Heng nodded, not paying much attention to it. Being selected by the Supervision Bureau meant that one must have real skills.
"When did you start doing this?" Shen Heng asked.
"About six or seven years ago, relevant departments came to discuss this matter," Yu Jingming replied. "After hearing about this situation, my father said that future ability users would be the pinnacle of this world, so he agreed to this!"
Shen Heng nodded thoughtfully. If the situation of the two worlds overlapping continues to worsen, then in the future, those with abilities will either be among the elite or belong to a special class.
However... Shen Heng tilted his head slightly, his gaze falling on Yu Jingming, and tentatively asked, "You don't seem to agree with this?"
Yu Jingming paused for a moment, "It's not that I disagree, but if what Father said is true, the danger of becoming an ability user is too high. If possible, I just want my family to live a peaceful life, and I don't pursue great wealth or anything like that!"
"Then why are you here as a tutor?" Shen Heng looked at Yu Jingming with some surprise.
"I don't want to either, but my father has already failed to awaken three times and can't try again. If I don't do it, my father will only force my sister to do it. No matter what, things absolutely cannot come to that!" Yu Jingming spoke.
Is it really necessary for the family to produce a dragon (a powerful, influential figure)...? Shen Heng glanced at Yu Jingming but didn't say anything; he shouldn't interfere in other people's family affairs.
As for what Yu Jingming just said, about failing to awaken after three attempts, Shen Heng had heard about it from others after joining the Supervision Bureau.
When an ordinary person fails to awaken their power, the Origin Power does not dissipate directly, but accumulates within their body.
These Origin Power can cause people to uncontrollably enter a negative state, such as physical stiffness, clumsy movements, or a feeling of being separated from their own body by a membrane.
Since ordinary people cannot use Origin Power, they also cannot consume the Origin Power accumulated in their bodies; they can only wait for it to slowly dissipate.
But in the process of dissipating, the Origin Power has already quietly begun to change a person's body.
This process of change has little impact in the first three times, but if one wants to awaken a fourth time, then there is a possibility of losing control and Distortion.
While a fourth failed awakening does not necessarily result in loss of control or Distortion, there is a considerable probability that it will occur.
These insights were gained through countless initial attempts.
Therefore, only one person is allowed to try three times. After three failed attempts, a fourth attempt is absolutely not permitted.
However, this has basically no impact at present. Origin Power Crystal are mostly controlled by the state. Ordinary people have a hard time even encountering Calamity Beast once, let alone four times.
During the conversation, Shen Heng had already led Yu Jingming to his training room.
Yu Jingming looked around curiously.
"How is it? Is it different from other Supervision Bureau?" Shen Heng asked.
"There's basically no difference!" Yu Jingming slowly shook his head.
"Well, these are all modern training rooms after all!" Shen Heng smiled.
"Yes!"
"Then let's begin the instruction. Should I go get two knives?" Shen Heng asked.
"No need, no need, I brought it!" Yu Jingming said as he took the wooden box off his back.
He crouched down gently and skillfully opened the wooden box, inside which lay two wooden knives.
Yu Jingming carefully picked up one of them and handed it to Shen Heng.
"This wooden knife is fine for studying!"
"Good."
Shen Heng took the wooden knife, raised his hand and swung it a few times in the air, then turned to look at Yu Jingming.
Yu Jingming was also standing there with a knife in his hand. Compared to when he wasn't holding the knife, he was noticeably more confident.
"Shall we begin the lesson?" Yu Jingming asked.
"Okay, I'll be leaving the rest of the time to you, Instructor Yu!" Shen Heng nodded.
"It's no trouble at all, it's what I should do!" Yu Jingming a smile.
He took a light breath and began to teach.
"First, you need to understand the basic uses of a knife, which mainly fall into three categories: slashing, thrusting, and parrying. In regular combat, slashing is the primary method used, and slashing is further divided into horizontal slashes and diagonal slashes..."
