History
The Switched Daughter
Twenty-three years before Ye Mo learns her identity, she is deliberately switched at birth and abandoned in a train-station trash can in Province A, far from City B. Ye Baozhu grows up in her place as the family’s cherished only daughter 2 4.
Ye Sen later notices Ye Mo’s resemblance to Ruan Xianyue, has his manager investigate her background, and arranges to obtain her hair for testing. He presses for a paternity test with his parents, leading to the discovery of Ye Mo’s identity 88 89.
Ye Mo’s Return
The family initially sends Secretary Chen rather than collecting Ye Mo personally because Ye Baozhu supposedly suffers a heart-condition flare-up. According to 888, Baozhu’s condition has already been cured; she feigns illness to keep the family’s attention on herself. Ye Mo nevertheless agrees to acknowledge the family, openly valuing its resources and connections 3.
Her first days bring both conflict and tentative warmth. Ye Miao is openly hostile, while Ruan Xianyue is initially stiff but appears to want to treat her well. Ye Zhipeng supports Ye Mo when household employee Wu Xiuxiu targets her, and Wu is removed after talismans concealed in his clothing are discovered 7 8 9 10.
Ye Lin becomes Ye Mo’s closest family ally. When she refers to the household as “your family,” he corrects her to “our family” and promises that her identity and his support will protect her from further media smears 22 91.
Exposure of the Baby Switch
Ye Mo publicly exposes Yuan Yongkang’s involvement in concealing the switch. Ye Baozhu objects that this threatens the Ye and Yuan families’ longstanding friendship, prompting Ye Mo to contrast Baozhu’s privileged upbringing with her own childhood of bullying, fieldwork, and unaffordable schooling 91.
The confrontation forces the family to reconsider its response. Ye Zhipeng acknowledges that he should have investigated Yuan Yongkang’s involvement earlier, while Ye Sen rejects Baozhu’s defense of him. Ye Zhipeng later pressures Yuan Yongkang out of medical employment, and the Yuan Family removes him from its genealogy to protect its remaining interests 91 95.
Clan Recognition and Welcome Banquet
Ye Zhipeng transfers five percent of Tianheng Industries’ shares to Ye Mo and apologizes for her years of suffering. The household then takes her to Q Province to meet her grandmother, uncles, aunts, cousins, and representatives of the collateral branches 116 122.
At the welcome banquet in City B, Ye Zhipeng publicly introduces Ye Mo as his daughter without disclosing that she and Ye Baozhu were switched. When He Ruilin subsequently disparages her over the families’ marriage agreement, Ye Zhipeng and Ye Lin defend her, and Ye Mo rejects the engagement 125 130.
Later Family Life
The family gathers at the ancestral residence for Spring Festival, where Ye Mo studies her next script and joins the New Year’s Eve mahjong games. Relations among the younger siblings also shift: Ye Miao and Ye Baozhu become involved in a bar fight, and Ye Mo helps them. Ye Lin teasingly treats their cooperation as evidence that they have become closer 140 147 204 205.
When Ye Mo considers resuming her education and taking university entrance examinations, Ruan Xianyue, Ye Zhipeng, and Ye Lin offer their support. The family eventually hires a private tutor while shielding her from unwanted visitors 208 210.
Relationships with Other Families
- Yuan Family — Friends for nearly a century. Yuan elders repeatedly saved members of the Ye Family through their medical work, but Yuan Yongkang’s role in the baby switch severely damages the relationship 92 95.
- He Family — A century-old family friendship reinforced when the He patriarch saved Ye Mo’s grandfather. The families agreed to a marriage between a boy and girl of Ye Mo’s generation; the baby switch complicates the intended match, and later discussions shift toward He Mingzhang 127 130 184.
- Qi Family — A less wealthy and less powerful business family. Ye Lin’s intervention ends Qi Yuwen’s attempt to displace Ye Mo from Chase, while Ye Mo later warns Qi Yuwen that antagonizing the Ye Family could endanger his position within his own household 42 48 49.
- Zheng Family — Long received corporate assistance from the Ye Family. After learning what Zheng Lingyin did, Ye Lin targets its business and argues that any old debt owed by his parents has already been repaid. Ye Zhipeng ultimately orders the Zheng visitors removed from his home 214 216.
