Background / History

Joint Examination and Enrollment

Yan Yuting first appears alongside her older brother, Yan Zitao, while they are taking other examinees’ points under Xu Jintang and Wei Zixuan’s names. When confronted, she adopts a threatening pose to support her brother’s bluff. After the encounter turns against them, she argues that they only took points and did not eliminate their victims 45.

Following reassignment, she enters Leikedasi Military Academy’s support class. Her brother also enrolls, but his stronger combat ability places him among the more powerful incoming students 56.

Support-Class Battlefield Exercise

During the simulated siege, Yan Yuting helps Xu Jintang rescue Xue Zhongqi from the attackers’ camp. Her food supplies combat and escape buffs, while Xu Jintang burns the enemy supply tent 59.

She also participates in a deception involving her captured brother. Following Xu Jintang’s instructions, she allows Yan Zitao to believe he has escaped after knocking her unconscious, then reports that she has fed him information with an incorrect timeline 58 60 61.

Throughout the exercise, she helps prepare food supplies and defenses. She warns Xu Jintang about the Black Armor Turtle’s freezing attacks and recognizes that extreme cold could greatly strengthen Yu Wanyao’s ice ability 60 62 63 67.

Experimental Class

Yan Yuting becomes the fifth member of Zhuang Silin’s experimental class alongside Xu Jintang, Jiang Shiyi, Song Tianqi, and Xue Zhongqi. During the strength assessment, she fears expulsion after failing the individual requirement. Xu Jintang objects that the combined strength supplied by her buffs should compensate for her weaker physique; the class is subsequently declared to have passed 71 74 75.

In the following combat assessment, Yan Yuting remains unnoticed at the arena’s edge while the stronger fighters draw the seniors’ attention. Because the class only needs one member to remain on the platform until time expires, her survival secures their victory 77.

Military Internships

During her first army internship, Yan Yuting joins the logistics team. Miao Ruijia identifies her toast-producing ability as suitable for supplying troops from the rear. She shares a bunk bed with Xu Jintang and receives real demonic-beast training from Luo Yingtong 83 84 87.

Later, she accepts Jing Hongyi’s offer to train as a trainee soldier with a newly formed special operations force. During its assessment, she takes over communications and battlefield command when Xu Jintang leaves to intercept an enemy unit commander. The trainee unit ultimately passes the assessment 194 225 226.

Ability User Competition

Competing as Jade Fox, Yan Yuting helps the Mask Squad advance through the Ability User Competition. Against the Prosperous Age Women’s Team, she faces a Third Tier opponent despite being only Second Tier herself. She accepts cuts to her arm rather than release her whip, then drags both herself and her opponent out of bounds to force a draw 121.

Xue Zhongqi escorts her to the Federation Medical Center. Her wounds heal without scars or lasting effects, but medical staff warn that damage to her meridians would have been much harder to treat. The team receives reprimands and written self-criticism assignments for risking their health 122 124.

Before the semifinal duel against Ji Nanqing, she receives tactical instructions from Xu Jintang. Using her modified whip, she briefly paralyzes Ji Nanqing and her Frost Demon Bear, attempts to pull her opponent off the platform, and evades a powerful ice attack through whip-assisted movement. The Mask Squad later advances to the championship match 167 168 173.

Military Academy Competition

Yan Yuting initially belongs to Leikedasi’s reserve lineup, with Yu Wanyao’s team serving as the main force. When the experimental class demonstrates its abilities to academy leaders, her inexpensive, large-scale food production earns particular attention from leaders with military experience 226 295.

Against Glacier Military Academy, she supports Jiang Shiyi and Xue Zhongqi with food buffs, then eliminates Wen Rushu with her upgraded Wind and Thunder Whip. In a later battle, her Colorful Apple Buns sharply improve her teammates’ speed and reactions 311 312 323.

She enters the grand finals’ simulated battlefield with the other four experimental-class members, survives the opening earthquake and rockfall, and accompanies the group when they encounter Grande Military Academy 327.

Personality

Yan Yuting is cheerful, expressive, and enthusiastic about clothes and entertainment. She stays up shopping for hot-spring outfits, enjoys dressing for the competition ball, and enthusiastically cheers for Shen Mucheng at a concert 70 137 264.

Her preferred future is peaceful rather than martial: she wants to sleep until she wakes naturally, eat hot meals, and live without worrying about war. Initially, she believes support work may spare her some pressure, and her first encounter with real demonic beasts frightens her badly 67 82 84.

Despite that fear, she can be stubbornly courageous when her team needs her. Her willingness to endure injury to force a tournament draw surprises her teammates, with Song Tianqi admitting he might not have dared to do the same 121 122.

She also has a mischievous, combative side. She willingly helps deceive her brother, exchanges insults with hostile online commenters, and frequently bickers with Song Tianqi and Xue Zhongqi 61 125 145 158.
