Monsters
News of Gilgamesh has arrived.
Bai Mo made a quick decision and decided to go to Uruk with Arcueid first. After finding out the specific situation, they would then decide whether to relocate the people of Eridu and the Gorgon.
After carrying out some basic defensive work, the two immediately set off.
Watching Bai Mo transform into a shooting star, Mery lowered her head and pondered for a moment.
"The Beast Mother Goddess has been defeated, and the contract with the Goddess of the Underworld has been dissolved... Theoretically, the enemy has run out of options. My illusion is still in effect, and Tiamat should still be asleep..."
But just to be on the safe side, it's best to double-check.
Glancing back at the towering Gorgon, Mery turned and walked towards Bai Mo's previous room. If nothing unexpected happened, Manaka should be there.
As soon as I opened the door, the sweet aroma of jam and the wheat scent of bread filled the house. Sizzling sounds came from the kitchen as Manaka intently fried bacon and eggs.
"Mery? What are you doing here? You don't need to eat, and I didn't invite you."
Manaka frowned slightly as she looked at Mery who had come to visit. She had come to Bai Mo's room early in the morning only to find it empty, so she decided to prepare breakfast while waiting for Bai Mo to return.
However, it wasn't him who came in, which dashed Manaka's hopes, and naturally, she didn't give him a friendly look.
"No need. Bai Mo and Miss Arcueid just headed to Uruk. It seems something unexpected happened there."
Mery's tone was as casual as if she were discussing a breakfast recipe, Manaka abruptly stopped in her tracks upon hearing this. In the kitchen, only the monotonous sizzling sound of bacon frying in hot oil echoed.
It's going to burn.
Mery reminded him, but Manaka seemed not to hear her at all. Since he wasn't coming, all of this was completely meaningless.
"This is terrible..."
Manaka looked out the window and muttered to herself, the breakfast she had just carefully prepared was now being tossed aside like trash.
She clenched her fists tightly; this feeling of being ignored was unbearable. Love or hate, it was better than this feeling of being treated like strangers.
Mery, who was spreading jam on bread, slowly began to speak:
"So, could you do me a small favor?" Mery took a bite of the jam-smeared bread, her fingertips elegantly pointing in the direction of Gorgon, a meaningful smile playing on her lips.
"If you're lucky, you'll meet again."
Meanwhile, Bai Mo and Arcueid returned to Uruk in no time.
"The number of magical beasts along the way has decreased considerably," Arcueid remarked, looking around.
"With Gorgon gone, the source of their infinite proliferation has been lost. Besides, creating World-Destroying Demon God isn't easy; I bet the wandering demon beasts have all been captured and used as nourishment," Bai Mo analyzed.
The two looked around. The pressure on the defensive line had greatly decreased, but an eerie silence permeated the entire Uruk.
Numerous giant staffs had appeared on the city walls at some unknown time, and a massive barrier, like a transparent bowl lid, covered the entire Uruk upside down.
"This barrier doesn't interfere with entry or exit at all, so it's for defense or early warning. What happened?"
Bai Mo was somewhat puzzled as he easily entered the barrier. Just as he was about to head straight for the Uruk Royal Palace, a strange change occurred beneath a staff in the northern district.
The space resembled a broken movie screen, and then a strange, pitch-black creature crawled out.
It lay on all fours, its body resembling a cone, its skin so smooth it was unsettling. The part that could be considered its head consisted only of a large, constantly opening, closing, and twisting mouth.
What's most terrifying is the massive arm, as thick as a bucket and bulging with muscles, attached to its lower body! It looks like it could crush a person's head.
The giant arm stretched out with its five fingers spread wide, as if it were trying to pick up something.
Upon seeing this thing, the people around immediately fled in a frenzy, wishing they had more legs.
"Quack! Run! I don't want to be flipped over!"
"Hey, what are you standing there for? Run!"
The citizens fled in a frenzy, but there stood a man in front of the monster, wearing a hood, as if trying to communicate with it.
A man tried to grab him, but was roughly thrown aside. The man looked at the monster and ran away without looking back.
The hooded man spoke:
"What exactly happened over there? You..."
But before he could finish speaking, the monster before him burst into laughter, emitting eerie sounds:
"You defective thing, you dare to order me around and ruin my happiness? Nonsense! I'll be the first to free this idiot!"
The monster's large hand sank down, its five fingers tightening, and it quickly approached the hooded man in front of it.
"Enjoy my Hand of God!"
The monster let out a piercing, eerie laugh, and its massive arm, accompanied by a fierce wind that tore through the air, suddenly slammed down!
The giant hand, like a swimming dragon, rushed towards the man's dendrobium. Faced with this unavoidable attack, the man's legs went weak and he sat down on the ground.
At the critical moment, a flash of cold light appeared, severing the giant arm of the monster before them.
"Ouch! That hurts!"
A sound of flesh and blood tearing rang out, and the monster instantly exploded, turning into a rain of blood.
The hood was blown open by the force of the punch, revealing a head of long, emerald-green hair. Kingu sat on the ground, turning around to see who had saved him, but what appeared before him was that nightmarish figure.
Bai Mo stood behind him, his figure like a mountain pressing down on Kingu, making it hard for him to breathe.
Now he had only one thought in his mind: escape!
No matter where you are, get away from this guy immediately! Don't think about anything else, just run!
He practically scrambled to his feet, fleeing in a disheveled state into a nearby alley. It was unimaginable that this wretched, homeless man was actually Kingu, who had once nearly destroyed humanity.
Bai Mo coldly observed the man but did not pursue him.
"Did Enki do it? Letting a guy like that live... hopefully it really makes some sense."
Bai Mo's murderous aura was locked onto him. Kingu was currently powerless and extremely weak. It could be said that a few strong men could easily beat him to death if they all attacked him at once.
Only the water god Enki in Mesopotamia could bring Kingu back to life from such a dead state.
Bai Mo ignored the poor fellow; he was just like that, he'd die anyway if left unattended.
Gilgamesh, with his Clairvoyance, could certainly see it. Since he hadn't said anything, Bai Mo was too lazy to kill someone who couldn't even kill a chicken.
After running for an unknown amount of time, Kingu tripped and fell heavily to the ground. Seeing that Bai Mo was not chasing after him, he breathed a deep sigh of relief.
Perhaps the Illusory Demon Art was still influencing him, for this guy actually laughed as if he had survived a calamity, throwing his head back.
"How pathetic, how truly pathetic! My own child, also a mother, wants to kill me, while my former enemy who killed me has saved me?" He curled up and collapsed by the roadside.
"What am I... anyway...?"
He lay down and fell asleep by the roadside, like an unwanted orphan.
What else can you do? Escape everything with sleep; if you could just sleep forever and never wake up, that wouldn't be a bad choice either...
Kingu gradually drifted off to sleep. In his dream, he was strolling through a forest, surrounded by animals. Everything was so peaceful and beautiful.
He arrived at the lakeside, where it seemed a woman was beckoning to him...
"Um... do you need help?"
A woman's voice reached his ears. Kingu opened his eyes and saw a woman wearing a veil and palace attire.
