Legend
The White Beast smacked its lips; if Cathy Palug were to go back now, it probably wouldn't be too willing itself.
Although it was fed with human jealousy and regret, emotions vary in quality and quantity, and the food on Bai Mo's side was fantastic. At least for the first time in so long, it was the first time it had eaten so much that it fell asleep.
I rarely have to fight, and now that I'm far away from Arcueid, I'm so happy.
As for Merlin and Brunestud? Goodbye, I probably won't forget you.
The white tail wagged incessantly, as if expressing its current mood. Bai Mo stroked its fur, sighed softly, hung the snack in her hand around Cathy Palug's neck, and then left with it.
After this meeting, Bai Mo finally understood why Takeda Moritoki harbored such strong hostility towards Chiyome. Even if the engagement was canceled, it wasn't something Chiyome could decide. Blaming everything on her seemed unreasonable.
Now, Bai Mo understands that Cathy Palug has solved the problem.
"What's the point of regretting it now that I didn't lend a hand?" he said casually, walking back into the clinic.
Upon returning home, Shi appeared at the door as always and greeted him, "Welcome back."
Cathy Palug glanced at Bai Mo, then at Shiki in the entryway, before jumping off Bai Mo's shoulder and handing the snack from her neck to Shiki.
"Good girl, are you finally awake?"
Shi stroked Cathy Palug's fluffy head, and the White Beast, as if given permission, hopped and skipped into the room.
On the other side, after Bai Mo changed her shoes, the two went to the kitchen to prepare dinner together. The afterglow of the setting sun shone in through the window, casting two long shadows on the kitchen floor.
After finishing their meal, Shiki led Bai Mo to a door. Upon opening it, they were greeted by an endless bookshelf. Stepping onto the soft tatami mat, Shiki reached out and picked out two thick books, almost the size of a travel bag.
The two sat cross-legged facing each other at a small table. The only sounds in the room were the rustling of pages turning and their breathing; it seemed even the wind outside couldn't bear to disturb the tranquility.
After an unknown amount of time, Bai Mo put down his book and let out a long sigh. He felt a mix of emotions, including regret. Seeing Bai Mo put down his book, Shi also inserted a bookmark into his book, closed it, and asked:
"Judging from your expression, you seem to find this result acceptable? At least you don't look worried."
"I wouldn't say I'm satisfied, but it's better than the ending I knew before. I didn't expect Atalanta to not meet such a tragic end. However, it says that Artemis shot an arrow that destroyed the Golden Apple in the end..."
When did she become so concerned about Atalanta?
And Jason... not only was he the queen of Lemnos, but he also ended up with more than a dozen partners?
While it might not have been a big deal back then, isn't this excuse a bit... well... it wasn't made up by later generations, right?"
Bai Mo looked at the pages of the book, where black and white words were written:
After Jason became king, he took many beautiful women with him, and when the queen he had married from Lemnos questioned him, he wept bitterly and said:
I lost my best friend, the one who brought me to this throne. My love, it's not that I've been unfaithful, it's just that I need a lot of tenderness to ease the pain in my heart.
Then, his lover actually chose to understand Jason.
Looking at the records above, Bai Mo's lips twitched as he asked the person in front of him.
Faced with Bai Mo's question, Shi covered her face and smiled faintly, "Really? I can assure you. Your friend really said that to the Queen. As for whether it's because of unhealed inner wounds, I don't know."
"This guy is really... but it's fine this way, it's just a bit unfair to the Queen of Lemnos." Bai Mo said with a helpless smile.
At this moment, he felt somewhat fortunate that his old friend hadn't let his affairs ruin his life. So far, it seemed that the winds he had stirred up were generally turning out for the better.
"This ending is indeed better than a normal development. After all, when the character in the book is your friend, everyone would hope for a happy ending."
Shi put the book away. She felt genuinely happy that she could understand emotions from these words, even though she was omniscient.
Especially now, in the quiet of the night, in the warm room, two people reading the same book, having a casual chat like this.
I wish time could stand still at this moment, and that tomorrow would never come.
But that would be too capricious.
Shi picked up the teacup, every movement a model of tea ceremony culture, and calmly said, "The records here only show their actions; their inner thoughts are uncertain because of your influence."
But that's alright, these things aren't hard to guess. I'm most curious about you, so can you tell me what you were thinking back then?"
Bai Mo turned the page, preparing to see the subsequent effects, and answered at the same time:
"Of course, Shi, I'll tell you everything I know."
With a gentle smile, Shi put down her teacup. Just as Bai Mo thought Shi would ask about the rumors circulating at the time or how her actions had been affected, she suddenly spoke:
"Legend has it that Lady Atalanta remained unmarried her entire life because her beloved died young, so are you two in that kind of relationship?"
Bai Mo paused in his book-flipping, surprised that she was interested in his gossip. He shook his head and said:
"If you're looking for some interesting stories about relationships, you're probably going to be disappointed. Even students know that it's not a good time to talk about love when major life exams are approaching. I had a lot going on at the time, so how could I possibly have those kinds of thoughts? It's all just a rumor."
Besides, wasn't Atalanta a follower of Artemis and destined to remain a virgin forever?
Hearing Bai Mo's words, Shi showed no sign of disappointment at all; in fact, her smile widened.
"Oh, I see. So you're all friends, right? I understand. Hmm, it's getting late. Let's treat the rest as bedtime reading."
Looking up at the window, the moonlight hung high, its bright rays shining into the room as if veiled by a mist.
"Okay, goodnight." Bai Mo prepared to read a little longer; the book contained very comprehensive information, covering everything from the smallest details to the largest.
Now he only knows the fate of the Argo' friends and the extent of his own influence on Greece mythology, which is what he needs to know.
Therefore, he made up his mind to finish reading it all night.
Just then, a rustling sound came from beside him. Bai Mo turned his head and saw that Shi had covered himself with a blanket and was lying down reading a book.
Since the floor is made of tatami mats, you can indeed lie down and sleep.
"Don't sleep here, go back to your room."
"No, I'm planning to look at it a little longer. If I encounter any problems I don't know the answers to, wouldn't that affect my sleep? You promised to help me with my questions."
At this point, Shi changed the subject, looking at Bai Mo with a smile in her eyes, and said:
"Or are you going to come into my bedroom at night and talk to me until I fall asleep?"
Because of some previous events, Bai Mo was somewhat resistant to the room. Seeing that she seemed determined to stay, Bai Mo could only shrug.
"Whatever you like."
Time slipped away quietly as the two exchanged questions and answers. Shi seemed to be getting sleepy, her voice growing softer and softer until it was almost a murmur. After an unknown amount of time, she quietly fell asleep beside Bai Mo.
Bai Mo glanced at the sleeping girl beside him, then used Electric Current Push gently tuck her in before continuing to read his book.
Time slipped by quietly. The calls of warblers and magpies drifted in from outside the window. As Bai Mo finished reading the last page and closed the book, the girl's steady breathing changed slightly; she had woken up.
"Hmm~" Shi stretched and got out of bed, looking at Bai Mo with an unprecedentedly gentle smile.
"What's wrong? Did you have a good dream?"
"No, I'm just in a good mood. Have you finished watching?"
Bai Mo nodded, and as she was about to make breakfast, Shi tugged at her sleeve.
"If you've been staying up late, take a short nap first. I'll make breakfast."
Looking at the gentle and affectionate girl, Bai Mo became even more certain of one thing: she was indeed in a good mood. At least she didn't usually get up this early, and yet she was in such a good mood.
"Thank you for your trouble."
"It's alright, go and rest. I'll leave the bedding here."
With a malicious smile, Shi turned and left. Bai Mo shook his head and sat down to meditate and rest.
A few soft hums came from the kitchen; at this moment, she was indeed in a very good mood.
"Living long enough really does mean you see everything. If I had seen someone like you with that expression before, I would have thought you were crazy."
The small white beast landed on the counter to the side, its wary gaze fixed on Shiki as it spoke in human language.
If it were before, seeing a being like Shiki laughing like a human would have made it think the world was about to end.
"Oh dear, is it that obvious? But I am indeed very happy."
"I don't understand why you're so happy."
Upon hearing this, Shi's lips involuntarily curved into a smile, and she said:
"It must be hard for you to understand, but this is the first time I've woken up and the first thing I saw was him. Before, when he wasn't here, every time I woke up, only the beating of my heart reminded me that it wasn't a dream."
For a while, he would make breakfast every time I woke up, and all I could see were traces of him. Until today, I finally felt directly that he was right beside me.
Isn't it wonderful? Even though it's so easy to sense, even though you know it's a given fact, seeing your loved one at first glance still involuntarily fills your mind with joy and happiness.
Maybe I really am crazy... maybe.
Hearing Shi's words, Cathy Palug showed a somewhat fearful expression. Looking at her, the Beast of Comparison felt a chill run down its spine.
Thinking of Bai Mo, who was still meditating, Cathy Palug felt that the crisis of the world's destruction still existed.
