Background

Ye Tianyi’s talent once attracted the Peak Master of Pill Cloud Peak, but his eventual master forcibly brought him to Qingyun Peak instead. He became one of the peak’s personal disciples, junior to Zhou Qingyu and senior to Lu Changsheng 1 9.

He spent ten years away accompanying his master on his travels. The sect had sent him along because the master, who had arrived at Cangyun Sect with memory loss over a century earlier, had suddenly remembered something and wanted to travel. Two years before Ye Tianyi’s return, his master disappeared. Ye Tianyi searched unsuccessfully throughout those two years before returning to the sect 2 10.

He blamed himself for losing track of his master and resolved to resume the search after reaching Core Formation. He also warned Lu Changsheng to keep the disappearance secret from outsiders, since only the sect’s higher-ups knew and disclosure might invite trouble 10.

Personality

Ye Tianyi is upright, disciplined, and deeply concerned with his lineage’s reputation. On returning to Qingyun Peak, he is appalled by Lu Changsheng’s apparent idleness and appropriation of sect supplies. He considers correcting his junior brother’s behavior a responsibility neglected during their master’s absence 1 2 9.

His strictness comes with genuine concern. He prepares pills for Zhou Qingyu, provides Lu Changsheng with a means of calling for help, and rushes to intercept a potentially fatal attack on his eldest senior brother. Even while recovering from an ambush, his immediate concern is whether Lu Changsheng is safe 9 17 28 35.

He is modest about his own cultivation but firm once he has made a decision. His determination to supervise Lu Changsheng leaves little room for objections, and his straightforward nature makes him susceptible to his junior brother’s misleading explanations 1 9 10 12.

Return to Qingyun Peak

Ye Tianyi returns intending to restore discipline to his lineage. His judgment of Lu Changsheng is repeatedly challenged: Liu Qingcheng seeks the younger disciple’s help with a formation, female disciples explain that their massages relieve his pain, and Zhou Qingyu trusts him to treat a Sword Dao injury 1 2 3 4.

He briefly suspects that Lu Changsheng may be the Nighttime Madman after seeing a dark figure enter Qingyun Peak. He does not uncover the truth 3.

Cultivation Supervision and the Beast Tide

After successfully refining pills with Lu Changsheng’s guidance, Ye Tianyi decides his junior brother’s talent deserves proper training. He takes him to the outer disciples’ trial grounds and plans to bring him into the Cangyun Secret Realm 9 10.

When Lu Changsheng displays a supposed breakthrough to the fourth level of Spirit Gathering, Ye Tianyi signs him up for the beast tide as practical training. During the fighting, he orders Lu Changsheng to lead other disciples back when Core Formation Demon Beasts arrive 12 16.

He then rushes to protect Zhou Qingyu from the Thousand Net Tower. His sword breaks, and only Lu Changsheng’s concealed intervention prevents him from being crushed 17.

Cangyun Secret Realm

Before entering, Ye Tianyi gives Lu Changsheng a contact talisman. Inside, Li Changfeng leads Profound Heaven Sect cultivators against him, intending to seize him and coerce Zhou Qingyu 28 35 36.

Lu Changsheng finds him wounded in a valley and administers a healing pill. The two reunite with Zhou Qingyu and leave the realm together 35.

Sect Crisis and Dynasty War

When Cangyun Sect faces an imminent attack, Ye Tianyi urges Lu Changsheng to leave with the departing disciples. He subsequently fights away from Qingyun Peak during the sect’s defense 39 43.

Selected for the Dynasty War, he informs Lu Changsheng that the patriarch has also chosen him and rebukes his protests. Later, he warns his junior brother against unnecessary travel because of rumors about a menace draining the Hundred Thousand Mountains’ Spiritual Qi—unaware that Lu Changsheng’s cultivation caused the depletion 43 45.

In the royal capital, he receives an invitation alongside Zhou Qingyu to the Yue Kingdom Royal Family’s Genius Exchange Conference and goes to find his eldest senior brother 50.
