Sang Luoluo slowly drove her wheelchair to the entrance. After waiting about fifteen minutes, someone drove over to pick her up.
"Hello, are you Sang Luoluo?"
Sang Luoluo nodded. "I am."
Sang Luoluo got into the vehicle. The driver was a member of the base's logistics staff and wore a Guard badge on his chest. He drove her straight to the heavy machinery plant. Only when she arrived did Sang Luoluo discover that each machine was almost as big and heavy as a large truck.
Each thick, heavy base had more than a dozen boom arms fitted with claw grippers. They could be controlled by computer and were indeed cutting-edge equipment.
A female manager with her hair pinned up, dressed in a neat business suit, looked very capable. She walked briskly over and, seeing Sang Luoluo in a wheelchair, wanted to see what she could do as well. "Let's begin," she urged.
Sang Luoluo nodded, steering her wheelchair with one hand while using the other to store the machines in her space. She went down the line like that, putting all twenty machines into her space.
The manager asked, "Didn't you say you only had room for fifteen trucks?"
Sang Luoluo nodded. "I said approximately. Once these machines are in my space, I can fit them around one another to save room without letting them touch or get damaged."
"I see. Let's set off, then."
Sang Luoluo rode in the vehicle, with the manager and driver in front. After an hour's drive, they arrived at a large processing plant and drove straight into the workshop. Sang Luoluo got out and, sitting in her wheelchair, arranged the machines in rows as instructed.
The entire assignment took only two hours.
After checking that the machines were completely undamaged, the female manager was extremely satisfied. She immediately marked the assignment complete and even gave it a five-star review.
Sang Luoluo received a transfer of 400 points, then immediately contacted the person in charge of the second assignment.
Chapter 33: Pretty sharp. Normally, they wouldn't let an Evolved Human take...
She had no immediate use for the 400 points she had just received, so she transferred them straight to her brother.
Sang Yunpu could not hide his delight. After Sang Luoluo left, he contacted the previous buyer, keeping two bottles of mineral water for themselves. His sister was right about one thing: they could earn points now, so there was no need to begrudge themselves food and drink as they had before. But he could not spend points without restraint the way she did, either. His sister did not carefully plan their future life, but as her older brother, he had a responsibility to do it properly.
He also kept two apples and two potatoes, selling everything else.
He sold the radiation-free food for the high price of 120 points per jin.
The apples in particular were in short supply. He asked for 140 points outright, and they still sold.
Reselling it all brought in 3,080 points.
His sister had just transferred another 400 points, and words could not express his joy.
He looked at the balance on his wrist device: 234,745 points.
He felt an indescribable sense of security.
Sang Luoluo waited for someone to pick her up and arrived at a large warehouse near the base entrance. It was filled with scrapped machinery. Some machines still worked but had been phased out because their software and parts were outdated. Others had been used so frequently that parts throughout them were worn down. Now these machines were to be transported for reprocessing, as some materials could be reused repeatedly.
The person who posted the assignment was an administrator in the base's logistics department. He had been very interested when he saw Sang Luoluo's ability on the forum. This work did not earn many points to begin with, so he wanted to save as much as possible. The base Guard already had too few trucks, and renting them cost a considerable sum. He had been thrilled to discover Sang Luoluo's ability. Seeing that she had done an assignment for the Guard, he immediately contacted her.
Sang Luoluo saw the mountain of goods piled haphazardly together in the warehouse. She wheeled forward and, in front of the administrator, stored them in her space pile by pile without changing their arrangement at all. She took a few pictures with her wrist device; they would come in handy when she delivered the goods.
In no time, she had emptied the entire warehouse. Unable to hide his delight, the administrator personally drove Sang Luoluo to deliver the goods. He even made a point of adding her contact information, saying he would come to her again if he had more work like this.
Sang Luoluo did not refuse outright, only saying that she would take a few assignments when it was convenient.
It was only two in the afternoon when she finished the second assignment. The points arrived immediately, along with another five-star review. She checked her wrist device. She still had time for the third assignment.
Sang Luoluo considered whether to give it a try. Doing more assignments now would also help her learn more about the base.
She soon made her decision and accepted the third assignment.
The person in charge quickly contacted her. Hearing that getting around was inconvenient for her because she used a wheelchair, he even arranged for someone to pick her up.
Sang Luoluo was driven to a large warehouse. Every garment here was specially made with advanced technology. Although they could not compare to the base Guard's radiation suits, they still offered some protection against radiation and allowed someone to survive in the wilderness for a short time. Looking at them, Sang Luoluo wanted to buy two sets to keep in reserve.
The clothes in the warehouse were neatly arranged. Before starting, Sang Luoluo took pictures as usual. The person in charge simply told her which goods needed transporting and how much there was; the people here had already counted everything.
Sang Luoluo stored the warehouse full of clothes in her space. Then the person in charge assigned a young man to drive her to deliver the goods.
It was Sang Luoluo's first time riding in one of the trucks here. It was somewhat battered, but fully equipped and very fast. It could even drive itself.
She thought she ought to get herself a vehicle later. What a shame that she could no longer drive the supercars and off-road vehicles she had paid so much for in her space's garage.
Thinking of all the many things in her space that were still locked, and how unlocking them required crystal cores, she vowed to save up plenty of points, buy a biological agent to heal her legs, and then go scavenging in the wilderness.
Their destinations were several clothing companies in the base. Sang Luoluo went with him to deliver the goods one company at a time. The young man saw that her spatial ability was truly heaven-defying, but it had one flaw: only she knew how much her space held. An idea came to him. If he could take the opportunity to extort some points from her, that would be great.
After all, no one else could enter her space to check whether anything was missing. She would have to swallow the loss in this muddled account herself.
At the last company, Sang Luoluo set down the remaining goods and looked at the young man. "Everything has been delivered. We can mark the assignment complete now."
The young man handed things over to the company's boss. The boss walked over with an unfriendly expression. "This isn't right. Twenty garments are missing. The quantity you delivered is wrong. Count them yourselves if you don't believe me."
In front of Sang Luoluo, the boss scanned the goods with his wrist device, which quickly tallied them. There should have been 13,000 garments, but there were only 12,980. Twenty garments were indeed missing.
Sang Luoluo's expression turned unpleasant as well. Before she could speak, the young man who had driven her there began blaming her. "Sang Luoluo, is this how you do your work? You think being a spatial Evolved Human means you can cheat with your ability? You thought we wouldn't notice twenty missing garments?"
Sang Luoluo looked at him. "It wasn't me. I delivered every last one. If you don't believe me..."
Before she could finish, the young man interrupted her. "I don't believe you! Do you know how many points each garment costs? One hundred and five points each! Our company can't lose twenty garments for nothing. You have to compensate us for those twenty!"
The company's boss was unwilling to swallow the loss in silence either. "I don't care what went wrong during transport. All I know is that twenty garments were definitely missing when I received the goods. I'll deduct the points for those twenty garments when I pay."
The young man walked up to Sang Luoluo and glared at her. "Did you hear that? Hurry up and take the goods out! If you can't, pay up! Hurry!!!"
As he spoke, the young man even kicked her wheelchair for no apparent reason.
Sang Luoluo felt that she had spent so much time around the Guard these past few days that she had started to think the people around her were fairly decent. Unfortunately, she had overlooked the evil in human nature in this wasteland world.
An issue like this naturally required the person in charge to be present before it could be resolved. Sang Luoluo immediately called the person in charge of the clothing company. Looking up at the young man and this company's boss, she said evenly, "You've done all the talking without even giving me a chance to explain."
The person in charge quickly answered the video call, and a virtual video screen appeared before the three of them.
"Hello, Ms. Sang. What can I do for you?"
Seeing a flicker of panic in the young man's eyes, Sang Luoluo recounted what had happened, then continued, "Whatever else, I am a member of the base Guard. Your employee rashly kicked my wheelchair before even investigating what happened. I reserve the right to hold him accountable."
"Ms. Sang, I apologize. My employee was rude. I will deal with him afterward."
The person in charge changed tack, his tone firm. "But we would still like an explanation from you about the twenty missing garments, Ms. Sang."
Sang Luoluo tapped her wrist device a few times and spent thirty points to post a bounty assignment on the base forum, looking for someone to drive over and pick her up in twenty minutes.
Once that was done, Sang Luoluo looked at the person in charge and smiled. "No problem. Everyone, please take a look."
Sang Luoluo arranged the photos she had taken while loading the goods at the clothing company alongside those she had taken when unloading at each company, then let her wrist device calculate the quantities. In the end, not a single garment was missing.
"As you can see, when I arrived here and set down the goods, nothing was missing. All the quantities match. Look at the time I took the goods out: 3:45 p.m. I've stayed here ever since. There are plenty of surveillance cameras in this warehouse. We can ask the boss to pull up the footage and see what happened afterward," Sang Luoluo said.
The young man was already panicking. He had never imagined that Sang Luoluo, an Evolved Human who had only completed a handful of assignments, would actually take photos for her records while working. It was too late for regrets now. He thought he had done it very discreetly, so the cameras probably had not caught him.
