Background / History

Holy Soul Village and Nuoding Academy

Lin Gu transmigrated from Blue Star and was adopted by Holy Soul Village’s elderly chief, Jack. He awakened his Martial Soul alongside Tang San and obtained a work-study place at Nuoding Academy. Although his Martial Soul initially resembled ordinary white clothing, its accompanying panel identified it as an Equipment Slot. He spent a month completing daily village quests to save system gold 1.

At Nuoding Academy, a quest to kick Yu Xiaogang supplied the final hundred gold needed to buy Heartsteel. After discovering that its health-building effect could activate through ordinary contact, Lin Gu used fights, casual touches, and massages to accumulate HP from his dormmates 1 2.

His first Soul Ring hunt paired his durability with Tang San’s offense. He restrained the Mandala Snake while Tang San killed it, then helped defeat a Boulder Turtle and delivered its finishing blow with Tang San’s dagger. Despite severe blood loss during absorption, his accumulated HP allowed him to survive taking the turtle’s thousand-year ring as his first ring 4 6.

Joining Spirit Hall

Lin Gu refused Yu Xiaogang’s offer of discipleship and registered at Nuoding City’s Spirit Hall branch. His purple first ring astonished Supervisor Ma and Su Yuntao. He accepted their invitation to join Spirit Hall, while Tang San declined 7 8.

After protecting Wang Sheng and defeating Xiao Chenyu’s followers, Lin Gu was abducted by Xiao Chenyu’s father, City Lord Xiao He. The city lord shattered his shield and attempted to kill him, but Chrysanthemum Douluo arrived while investigating his disappearance. Lin Gu ultimately spared Xiao He’s life while having his Martial Soul and Soul Power crippled 9 10 11 12.

At Spirit Hall, Lin Gu revealed the Equipment Slot’s basic nature to Bibi Dong while concealing its full mechanics. Her defense tests gave him opportunities to activate Heartsteel against her, rapidly raising his HP and shield strength 12 13 14.

Qian Daoliu’s Disciple

Qian Renxue initially attacked Lin Gu because Bibi Dong had praised him while ordering her to prepare for an undercover mission. After failing to overcome his shields, she asked him to help oppose that assignment and introduced him to Qian Daoliu 15 16 17.

Both Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu offered to take him as a disciple. Lin Gu supported Qian Renxue’s claim that he had already chosen her grandfather, then formally acknowledged Qian Daoliu as his master. He moved into the Worship Hall and shared Qian Renxue’s room while beginning his training 18 19.

Over the following year, Lin Gu cultivated with Qian Renxue, sparred with the enshrined, and regularly used massages to activate Heartsteel against Qian Daoliu. He reached rank 20 and purchased the Blade of the Bloodbath before departing to hunt his second Soul Ring 20 21.

Star Lake Hunt

Accompanied by Qian Renxue, Qian Jun, and Jiang Mo, Lin Gu confronted the Titan Giant Ape and Sky Azure Bull Python at Star Lake. After enduring their attacks, he drew the Blade of the Bloodbath and severely injured both beasts. He demanded that they sacrifice themselves or face capture and torture until they agreed 22 23.

Lin Gu assigned the Sky Azure Bull Python to Qian Renxue for her seventh ring and kept the Titan Giant Ape for himself. Before accepting the ape’s sacrifice, he threatened to target Xiao Wu, extracting information about hundred-thousand-year beasts in the Far North. The sacrifice raised him to rank 29 and unlocked his shoulder equipment slot 24 25.

Holy Son and the Spirit Hall Challenge

Spirit Hall appointed Lin Gu as Holy Son and promised to hand the organization over to him once he became a Titled Douluo. He accepted the appointment but opposed the accompanying plan to send Qian Renxue undercover in the Heaven Dou Empire 28.

When Qian Renxue admitted her reluctance, Lin Gu demanded to become Hall Master and proposed unifying the continent through overwhelming force. To prove his strength, he challenged all twenty-one of Spirit Hall’s Titled Douluo, agreeing to follow their arrangements if he lost 29.

The battle escalated from individual elders to coordinated attacks by the elders and enshrined. Lin Gu’s regeneration negated the initial attacks, while repeatedly renewed shields protected him against the larger assault. Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu joined the battle in the latest documented chapter; its outcome is not provided 30 31.

Appearance

  • Face and build: Described as handsome, with a chiseled face. At seven, he reaches approximately Qian Renxue’s waist 2 17 24.
  • Clothing: Qian Renxue gives him a pale white long robe and a snowflake-shaped storage sash 20.
  • Manifested equipment: Wears an orange breastplate; his later shoulder slot appears as a pair of small, pale white pauldrons 17 25.
  • Soul Rings: Displays an unusual purple-and-red configuration after obtaining his second ring 25.

Personality

Lin Gu is calculating and opportunistic, frequently disguising his objectives as childish behavior. False apologies, friendly touches, and apparently considerate massages all become ways to obtain rewards or activate Heartsteel without explaining its secrets. He shares enough information about his Martial Soul to secure Spirit Hall’s support while withholding its most exploitable mechanics 1 2 12 13 20.

His growing durability makes him openly confident and provocative. He sits calmly while opponents attack, lets weaker enemies exhaust themselves, and challenges senior Soul Masters who underestimate him. However, he also recognizes practical shortcomings in his offense, speed, and control rather than treating defense as a complete solution 3 9 28 29.

He is protective and generous toward Qian Renxue, but ruthless toward enemies. He gives her a hundred-thousand-year ring, opposes her unwanted assignment, and challenges Spirit Hall on her behalf. In contrast, he orders Xiao He crippled and coerces the Star Lake beasts into sacrificing themselves 11 23 24 28 29.

Abilities & Skills

Equipment Slot Martial Soul

Lin Gu’s Martial Soul manifests equipment rather than a conventional beast or weapon form. Advancing through Soul Ring breakthroughs unlocks additional slots 6 12 17 25.

  • System panel: Displays HP, Soul Power, equipment, system gold, quests, and shop options 1.
  • Quest rewards: Daily tasks, kill missions, story quests, and an apprenticeship quest provide system gold 1 4 9 19.
  • Equipment purchases: New slots expand the shop’s available equipment and price tiers. System gold is distinct from ordinary Gold Soul Coins 7 26.
  • Soul Skill compatibility: Equipment and Soul Skills complement one another. Lin Gu learns to purchase the intended equipment before absorbing its corresponding ring; otherwise, the skill attaches to the basic starter item 25 26.
  • Not Twin Martial Souls: Yu Xiaogang and Tang San mistake the weapon slot for a second Martial Soul, but Qian Daoliu correctly identifies the equipment as parts of one Martial Soul 7 17.

Heartsteel and HP Accumulation

Heartsteel allows Lin Gu to build his HP through charged contact effects, which he calls “steel” activations 2 3.

  • Ordinary touches and massages can trigger the effect; damaging attacks are unnecessary 2 20.
  • Activations can be saved for later, allowing him to reserve them for stronger targets 10 20.
  • Stronger targets provide much larger gains: Chrysanthemum Douluo grants 200 million HP, Bibi Dong one billion per activation, and Qian Daoliu 1.5 billion per activation 12 13 20.
  • His accumulated health lets him survive damage and Soul Ring absorption that his conventional rank would not ordinarily support 6 30.

Health Regeneration

Lin Gu regenerates 1% of his HP per second. Once his HP exceeds two trillion, this restores more than twenty billion HP each second 26 31.

  • Demon Bear Douluo’s attacks fail to outpace his recovery even without a shield 30.
  • Gui Mei’s sustained ten-billion-damage-per-second assault likewise falls below his regeneration rate 31.
  • Heavy use of his sword and second Soul Skill can consume HP faster than he considers comfortable, motivating him to seek additional regeneration equipment 26.

First Soul Skill: Solid as a Rock

Obtained from the thousand-year Boulder Turtle, Solid as a Rock produces an orange shield worth 30% of Lin Gu’s HP 6 9.

  • Initially shields Lin Gu and one designated teammate; the number of teammates can increase with Soul Power 6.
  • Recasting creates a fresh shield with restored HP 14 18.
  • By the Spirit Hall challenge, he can cast it roughly every three minutes, provided he has sufficient Soul Power 29.
  • Allows rank-70 Qian Renxue to exchange blows with Titled Douluo during training 21.
  • Can be broken by sufficient damage; its strength depends on Lin Gu’s growing HP rather than its thousand-year origin alone 10 18 31.

Second Soul Skill: Bloodthirsty Firmament Slash

Obtained through the hundred-thousand-year Titan Giant Ape’s sacrifice, this skill converts Lin Gu’s own HP into sword Qi with attack power equal to the health consumed 25 26.

  • Sword Qi can strike near or far, sweep in different directions, and change size according to his intent 26.
  • With over two trillion HP, Lin Gu reasons that he could expend nearly that entire reserve on an attack while leaving himself alive 26.
  • Shares his health reserve with the Blade of the Bloodbath’s own consumption, making regeneration important during prolonged use 26.
  • Its full-power effect has not been demonstrated in the supplied chapters.

Limitations

  • Early offense: Before acquiring a proper weapon, Lin Gu relies on Tang San’s attacks against Soul Beasts and on exhausting weaker opponents 3 4 10.
  • Mobility and control: He identifies speed, flight, and preventing enemies from escaping as areas needing improvement. Qian Renxue carries him when flying 28 29.
  • Equipment costs: Unlocking a slot provides a starter item, not immediate access to its expensive replacement 7 25 26.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Heartsteel — His first purchased equipment, costing 3,000 system gold. Replaces his starter clothing with a breastplate and supplies his health-building effect 1 2.
  • Blade of the Bloodbath — A 30,000-system-gold weapon replacing the white wooden starter knife. Its broad, two-meter blade has a purple-glowing hilt surrounded by dark purple flames. It consumes HP to strengthen its attacks; Qian Daoliu warns him against casual use 7 20.
  • Starter pauldrons — Pale white shoulder equipment unlocked after his second ring. He examines replacements costing up to 300,000 system gold; no replacement purchase is documented 25 26 30.
  • Six-Snow Sky-Congealing Sash — A snowflake-shaped Storage Soul Tool given by Qian Renxue, paired with her Seven-Heavens Firmament-Embracing Sash 20.
  • Sky Azure Bull Python Right Arm Bone and Titan Giant Ape Left Arm Bone — Initially offered to Qian Renxue. She returns both because her clan possesses inherited Angel Soul Bones; Lin Gu stores them in his sash without absorbing them 25 26.
  • Xiao He’s Soul Bone — Given to Chrysanthemum Douluo as a first-meeting gift after Xiao He offers it to buy his life 11.

Relationships

  • Jack — Adoptive guardian and chief of Holy Soul Village; takes Lin Gu in after his transmigration 1.
  • Tang San — Fellow villager, work-study student, and early hunting partner. They cooperate against the Mandala Snake and Boulder Turtle before choosing different paths over Spirit Hall membership 1 4 6 8.
  • Xiao Wu — Dorm Seven companion and an early Heartsteel target. Lin Gu later uses the threat of making her his next ring to pressure the Titan Giant Ape 2 25.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Target of Lin Gu’s first documented quest and an adviser during his first ring hunt. Lin Gu distrusts his judgment and rejects his discipleship offer 1 3 7.
  • Wang Sheng — Dormmate whom Lin Gu shields from Xiao Chenyu’s bullying 9 10.
  • Chrysanthemum Douluo — Rescues Lin Gu from Xiao He, escorts him to Spirit Hall, and receives a Soul Bone from him 11 12.
  • Bibi Dong — Recognizes his talent and offers him direct discipleship and the Holy Son position. He instead becomes Qian Daoliu’s disciple, later opposing her joint plan for Qian Renxue’s infiltration 18 19 28.
  • Qian Daoliu — Master, cultivation instructor, and Lin Gu’s most rewarding regular Heartsteel target. Treats him affectionately and trains him alongside Qian Renxue 19 20.
  • Qian Renxue — Initially an attacker, then his close companion and cultivation partner. Gives him clothes and a storage tool, shares her room, and introduces him to Qian Daoliu. Their bond develops romantic implications, though no formal relationship is established in the supplied chapters 16 19 20 27.
  • Qian Jun and Jiang Mo — Enshrined assigned to escort Lin Gu and Qian Renxue on their hunt; witness his defeat of the Star Lake beasts 20 24 25.
  • Titan Giant Ape and Sky Azure Bull Python — Defeated and coerced into sacrificing themselves. The ape becomes Lin Gu’s second ring, while the python becomes Qian Renxue’s seventh 23 24 25.
