Background / History

Early Life and Awakening

Gao Shang retains memories of a previous life and recognizes people and events from the original Douluo story. His father had been a Spirit Hall deacon and had guided Su Yuntao onto that path, giving Gao Shang an existing connection to him 1 2.

Before awakening his Martial Soul, Gao Shang exercised regularly and visited Zhao Gang’s medicine shop for monthly examinations to avoid injuries that might harm his future cultivation. Sun Meng had attended to his daily needs for three years while also working at his milk tea shop 3 6 11.

His initial awakening produces an eye Martial Soul with only rank-one Innate Soul Power. Shortly afterward, the Omnipotent Shop System activates. Gao Shang returns to the Happy Milk Tea Shop and uses its evolution gift, enduring a painful transformation into the Sharingan as memories of his previous life resurface 1 2.

Whale-Rubber Business and First Soul Ring

To prepare for a powerful first Soul Ring, Gao Shang buys whale rubber from Zhao Gang while allowing him to believe it is intended for Su Yuntao. He discovers that recycling whale rubber through the system yields far more than its local purchase price and commissions Zhao Gang to gather additional stock 3 4 5.

After strengthening his body, Gao Shang absorbs a Tyrant Dragon origin fossil rather than hunting a living soul beast. He subsequently tests his strength against Su Yuntao, holding his own in a restricted spar despite having only one ring. To conceal his unusual first ring, he uses Genjutsu to make Su Yuntao perceive its purple color as pale yellow 7 8 9.

Conflict with Zhou Qi

Zhou Qi targets Gao Shang’s whale-rubber resale channel and hires Wang Tianyuan and Hong Hua to extract it or kill him and seize his money. Gao Shang defeats both attackers outside his shop, forces a confession, then offers them employment instead of further punishment 11 12 13.

Gao Shang first encourages Su Yuntao to report Zhou Qi as a possible Fallen Soul Master. He later purchases a Thunder Hand Cannon and Dragon Scale Protection, flies to Zhou Qi’s estate, and destroys the main house with a charged shot 17 21 22.

The estate’s collapse reveals chambers containing the remains and organs of abducted girls. Gao Shang burns the remains, discovers Zhou Qi inhabiting a stitched-together girl’s body, and kills him with his saber and Ultimate Fire. He escapes with an injured captive and two research notebooks, returning to Gao Manor with injuries worsened by the strain of flight 23 24.

Household and Business Expansion

Gao Shang moves from the milk tea shop into a larger residence with separate courtyards, a pond, and a rockery. He establishes a twelve-hour daily training routine and begins assembling a core team rather than relying on himself alone 19.

After learning that the system can register newly created items, he considers developing pills, mobile phones, Soul Tools, and soul vessels. He sees empowering ordinary people as a way to rebalance the continent while expanding his own opportunities to earn and spend money 26.

He recruits Shangguan Yun as his chef after she identifies all thirty-six ingredients in his assessment. He then directs Hong Hua to find a restaurant site and later allocates five thousand Gold Soul Coins to buy and clear a location on Nuoding City’s main street 29 32.

Gao Shang also invests in his companions’ cultivation. He watches over Sun Meng throughout her three-day transformation after taking a Red Spider Lily, reassures her about her evolved Martial Soul, and later teaches her meditation and Uchiha Kenjutsu 32 33 34.

Appearance

• Build and complexion: Originally somewhat dark-skinned from regular exercise; whale-rubber refinement leaves his skin markedly fairer. Absorbing his first Soul Ring makes him slightly taller with firmer muscle definition 5 8.
• Face: Develops sharper contours and more striking features after obtaining his first ring. Gao Shang briefly mistakes his reflection for Sasuke 8.
• Sharingan: Scarlet eyes initially bearing one black tomoe each; a second tomoe forms in each eye after the Red Spider Lily evolution 2 33.
• Back marking: A warm, red wing tattoo appears after he absorbs the Fire Phoenix Wings 21.
• Third eye: The Eye of Destiny opens between his brows as a golden vertical pupil 35.

Personality

Gao Shang is commercially calculating and attentive to risk. He searches for price discrepancies between the system and the continent’s markets, but avoids openly selling immortal herbs or Soul Bones because they could attract dangerous attention. Although he appreciates Spirit Hall’s free awakenings for commoners, he refuses to join because he distrusts Bibi Dong’s temperament 6 9.

He is protective of his household without being indiscriminately forgiving. He intervenes immediately when Sun Meng is threatened and explicitly tells her that she is family. After defeating Wang Tianyuan and Hong Hua, he recognizes their usefulness, hires them, and purchases medicine for their injuries 11 13.

Against enemies, Gao Shang can be cold and coercive. He breaks Wang Tianyuan’s resistance by threatening to make him kill Hong Hua, and later personally eliminates Zhou Qi. Nevertheless, he rescues Zhou Qi’s surviving captive and destroys the victims’ remains to lay them to rest 12 22 23 24.

His confidence is tempered by an awareness of his limits. He trains twelve hours a day, yet also enjoys showing off his improved looks and laughing over new powers. After acquiring Destiny Backlash, he repeatedly reminds himself that retaliating against his killer would not make dying worthwhile 8 19 33 35.

Sharingan

His evolved eye Martial Soul combines enhanced perception with Genjutsu 2 8 9.

• Visual acuity: Can distinguish minute details, including patterns on a flying mosquito’s wings 2.
• Motion tracking: Reads movements, balance, and attack trajectories well enough to compensate for inferior combat technique during his spar with Su Yuntao 9.
• Genjutsu: Alters Su Yuntao’s perception of his Soul Ring and briefly redirects Hong Hua into stabbing Wang Tianyuan 8 12.
• Insight: The Two-Tomoe form reveals ambient Soul Power and its distribution and circulation inside bodies. Gao Shang uses this to anticipate attacks and identify cultivation mistakes 33 34.

Tyrant’s Power

The Complete Collection of Uchiha Ninjutsu gives Gao Shang a systematic combat legacy, though he must learn it without an instructor 18.

• Recorded techniques: Includes Taijutsu, saber techniques, nine Fire Release Ninjutsu, two Genjutsu, one Sealing Jutsu, and one Barrier Ninjutsu. It does not contain Izanagi 18 19.
• Close combat: After intensive practice, he can exchange blows with Wang Tianyuan for an extended period without activating the Sharingan 19.
• Great Fireball Technique: Produces a large fireball. After obtaining the Fire Phoenix Wings and recovering from his injuries, he reduces its preparation to under two seconds and knocks Wang Tianyuan backward in a test 19 26.
• Phoenix Flower Jutsu: Produces multiple smaller fireballs; he acquires a basic grasp alongside Great Fireball 19.

Fire Phoenix Wings

A hundred-year, growth-type external soul bone that grants flight and control over Ultimate Fire 20.

• Flight: Manifests crimson flaming wings spanning five or six meters. At rank fourteen, Gao Shang practices low-altitude flight for about fifteen minutes before exhausting his Soul Power 21.
• Fire control: Improves flame affinity and control. Its fireball destroys a marble table, while its wings shield him from the resulting fragments 20 21.
• Concealed use: The back tattoo lets him produce fire without manifesting the wings; this weaker flame still barely reaches the threshold of Ultimate Fire 21.

• Destiny Detection: Reveals other people’s fortune 35.
• Destiny Backlash: Anyone who attacks him suffers misfortune, even if the attack causes no injury. The backlash grows with the damage inflicted; killing him would doom the killer and bring ruin to their family and faction 35.
