|---|---|---|
| Innate Soul Power: half a rank | 17 | Revealed retrospectively when Yu Xiaogang argues that Ji Juechen’s rank-three innate Soul Power gave him a better starting point. |
| Rank twenty-nine Soul Grandmaster | 5 11 | Has remained at this level for years and possesses two Soul Rings. No subsequent breakthrough is documented in the supplied chapters. |
- His claim to be a rank ninety-nine “Wisdom Douluo” is a boast made while arguing with Qiangu Dongfeng, not an actual advancement 5.
- His apparent third Soul Skill and arrival in the Divine Realm occur in a parody video, not in his actual cultivation history 24 25.
Background / History
Yu Xiaogang is the son of Yu Yuanzhen of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. In his youth, he met Bibi Dong while she was Spirit Hall’s Holy Maiden. They fell in love, and she considered leaving Spirit Hall to spend her life with him 34.
Bibi Dong’s teacher, Qian Xunji, demanded that she end the relationship. According to Jiang Yan’s account, she concealed the circumstances of their separation because revealing them would endanger Yu Xiaogang. Unaware of this, Yu Xiaogang believed that she despised his weak cultivation and lack of talent 35.
He later formed the Golden Iron Triangle with Flender and Liu Erlong. Both men loved Liu Erlong, making the group a romantic triangle as well as a named partnership. Liu Erlong and Yu Xiaogang also belonged to the same clan 6 30.
As Tang San’s teacher, Yu Xiaogang presented his Martial Soul research as the foundation of his instruction. Footage shown through the Sky Screen depicts him examining Tang San’s certificate, accompanying him into the Soul Hunting Forest, and explaining Soul Ring selection 4 6 11.
Personality
Yu Xiaogang is fiercely protective of his reputation as an “invincible theoretical Grandmaster.” He treats Tang San’s eventual godhood as proof that his teaching methods are correct and insists that his Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul would secure his historical legacy even without his disciple 12 34.
Criticism frequently provokes insults rather than reconsideration. He starts a profanity-filled argument with the Qiangu family, dismisses unfamiliar future-era technology, and insists that twenty years of research cannot be wrong when challenged over Body Martial Souls 5 15 27.
His confidence is particularly fragile around his own cultivation. Although he originated the saying that there are no trash Martial Souls, only trash Soul Masters, he blames his stagnation on his defective Martial Soul. When others cite successful cultivators with poor starting conditions, he demands increasingly specific comparisons 17 18.
His loyalty to Tang San competes with his desire for recognition. He initially excuses both Tang San’s thoughts of killing him and his future exclusion from the Divine Realm. Repeated challenges to those excuses eventually leave him openly questioning his disciple, though he continues dwelling on the issue afterward 11 25 26.
Abilities & Skills
Luo Sanpao
Yu Xiaogang summons Luo Sanpao through pale-purple Soul Power released from his palms. Luo Sanpao is a purple-furred creature resembling both a dog and a pig, with a rounded bump on its head 6.
- Manifestation: Appears separately from Yu Xiaogang and responds affectionately to him 6.
- Scouting: Leads Yu Xiaogang and Tang San through the Soul Hunting Forest when commanded 10.
- Diet: Yu Xiaogang purchases white radishes to feed it 6.
- Combat limitation: Yu Xiaogang acknowledges losing to a four-hundred-year-old Mandala Snake and argues that this is normal for someone with only two rings 11.
Light Sacred Dragon Potential
Jiang Yan identifies Luo Sanpao’s head bump as an undeveloped dragon horn and describes Yu Xiaogang’s mutation as beneficial rather than inherently worthless. Leng Yaozhu identifies the Light Sacred Dragon as a top-tier Martial Soul stronger than the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon 6.
- Proposed development: Jiang Yan suggests that feeding Luo Sanpao dragon meat from childhood might have enabled its evolution; this is a hypothetical explanation, not an achieved transformation 6.
- Inherited bloodline: Jiang Yan identifies Bei Bei, Mu En, and Long Yeyue as later descendants of Yu Xiaogang and Liu Erlong who inherited this Martial Soul 6.
- Unrealized ambition: Yu Xiaogang insists that a complete Light Sacred Dragon Martial Soul would allow him to become a Titled Douluo 17.
Martial Soul Research and Teaching
Yu Xiaogang claims authorship of the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul. The Sky Screen repeatedly subjects his research to criticism, ranging from accusations of repackaging common knowledge to challenges against his cultivation recommendations 11 34.
| Subject | Yu Xiaogang’s position | Challenge or outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Blue Silver Grass research | Claims to have studied 647 people with the Martial Soul, none possessing innate Soul Power above rank one 4. | Jiang Yan criticizes him for failing to identify Tang San’s unawakened Blue Silver Emperor; Tang Ya and Tang Wulin also question his statement 4 12. |
| Martial Soul Mimicry Theory | Plant and beast Martial Souls can absorb each other’s types of Soul Rings when suitable conditions are met 11. | Qian Renxue calls this common knowledge. Yu Xiaogang defends the proposition’s correctness rather than its originality 11. |
| Blue Silver Grass cultivation | Recommends toughness, poison, and control; describes the Mandala Snake’s ring as a suitable addition 11. | Jiang Yan argues for life-oriented support with control applications. Tang San agrees that life, rather than poison, is the correct direction 12. |
| Support Martial Souls | Declares the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda superior to every healing- and food-type Martial Soul 26. | Jiang Yan names the Rainbow Dragon, Spirit Eyes, Nine Heart Begonia, and Angel of Hope as counterexamples to his blanket ranking 27. |
| Body Martial Souls | Dismisses Spirit Eyes and other Body Martial Souls as trash 27. | His remarks provoke Body Sect masters Du Busi and Mu Ye 27. |
| Soul guidance weapons | Rejects the possibility that a Level 9 Fixed Soul Guidance Shell could exceed a Titled Douluo’s destructive power 15. | Ya Li explains that its explosion equals a Limit Douluo’s full-force strike and can kill a Titled Douluo 15. |
- Disputed originality: Jiang Yan initially calls his theories plagiarized and later specifically frames their alleged derivation from Spirit Hall research as a reader suspicion. The supplied account does not establish that allegation independently 11 34.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Cross-Era Livestream Arguments
Yu Xiaogang becomes an active participant in the Sky Screen Livestream Room, which connects his era with the Peerless era ten thousand years later and the Dragon King era twenty thousand years later. After insulting Leng Yaozhu, he clashes with Qiangu Dongfeng and then enters a prolonged cursing match with Qiangu Dieting 5.
The revelation of Luo Sanpao’s potential briefly restores his confidence. He declares that his Martial Soul is top-tier, while other viewers mock his feeding practices and limited combat ability 6.
Challenges to Tang San’s Training
The broadcast reveals that Tang San considered killing Yu Xiaogang to prevent his identity as a transmigrator from being exposed. Yu Xiaogang is shocked but reassures himself that Tang San never acted on the thought 11.
The dispute then shifts to his teaching. Jiang Yan attributes later Blue Silver Grass cultivators’ limitations—and part of the Tang Sect’s decline—to the continued use of Yu Xiaogang’s methods. When Tang San endorses the life-oriented path, Yu Xiaogang accuses him of forgetting the theories behind his achievements. Tang Hao intervenes, crediting his son’s talent and accusing Yu Xiaogang of nearly leading him astray 12.
Conflict with Ya Li
Yu Xiaogang rejects Ya Li’s explanation of advanced soul guidance weapons and questions whether she has ever seen a Limit Douluo. Her supporters flood the livestream with abuse; Flender, Qin Ming, Zhao Wuji, and Liu Erlong are also targeted when they defend him. The Sky Screen ends the confrontation by muting everyone for three minutes 15.
Exclusion from the Divine Realm
Yu Xiaogang initially argues that Tang San must have had legitimate reasons for leaving him in the lower realm, first citing Divine Realm rules and then limited places for accompanying relatives. Jiang Yan confirms that Tang San brought Tang Hao and Ah Yin but states that the original novel does not explain why Yu Xiaogang was excluded 25.
After Jiang Yan challenges the rules-based explanation, Yu Xiaogang’s confidence breaks. Bibi Dong invites him to Spirit Hall, Qian Daoliu objects, and Yu Xiaogang vows to find his own way to become a god. No acceptance of Bibi Dong’s invitation is shown 25.
Exposure of His Past with Bibi Dong
When the Sky Screen revisits his early relationship with Bibi Dong, Yu Xiaogang learns that Qian Renxue is her daughter. His shocked reaction reveals his lingering attachment to Bibi Dong and hurts Liu Erlong, who overhears him 34.
After learning why Bibi Dong concealed the truth, he expresses remorse and claims that he would have destroyed Spirit Hall had he known. Jiang Yan contrasts that declaration with his past failure to confront the organization 35.
Relationships
- Tang San — Disciple. Yu Xiaogang takes pride in his future godhood, but revelations about Tang San’s thoughts of killing him, disagreements over cultivation, and exclusion from the Divine Realm strain their bond 11 12 25.
- Bibi Dong — Former lover. She retains enough attachment to invite him into Spirit Hall after his relationship with Tang San begins to fracture 25 34 35.
- Liu Erlong — Fellow clan member, Golden Iron Triangle companion, and romantic partner identified as the mother of their future descendants. His continuing feelings for Bibi Dong cause her distress 6 30 34.
- Flender — Golden Iron Triangle companion and romantic rival for Liu Erlong. He defends Yu Xiaogang publicly and comforts him over his exclusion from the Divine Realm 15 26 30.
- Yu Yuanzhen — Father; a member of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan 34.
- Bei Bei, Mu En, and Long Yeyue — Future descendants identified by Jiang Yan as inheritors of the Light Sacred Dragon Martial Soul 6.
- Qian Renxue — Initially admired his theoretical reputation and considered recruiting him. The broadcast’s criticisms lead her to reject that assessment 17 34.
- Jiang Yan — Principal critic of his research, teaching methods, and claimed historical importance 6 11 12 34.
- Qiangu Dongfeng and Qiangu Dieting — Repeated livestream antagonists who mock his cultivation and theoretical authority 5 6 11.
- Ya Li — Future-era Shrek figure whose expertise he dismisses, provoking widespread backlash 15 27.
Notable Quotes
“There are no trash martial souls, only trash Soul Masters!”
— Yu Xiaogang’s maxim, repeated by Tang San 17
“Even without Little San, I could still leave my name in the annals of history! My Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul alone would be enough!” 34
“Just you all wait! One day, I'll find a way to become a god myself!” 25
Trivia
- A parody video gives him a bamboo-powered “Third Soul Skill,” with Luo Sanpao’s flatulence propelling him toward the Divine Realm. Yu Xiaogang watches the clip angrily while Qian Renxue, Ye Guyi, and Leng Yaozhu laugh 24.
- Jiang Yan explains the meme “the Endless Fire Territory had Yao Lao, but the Divine Realm had no Yu Xiaogang” as a comparison between Xiao Yan bringing his teacher Yao Chen with him and Tang San leaving Yu Xiaogang behind 25.
