Background / History
Previous life and rebirth
Tang San originally belonged to another Tang Sect. He stole its secret manuals and secretly learned its forbidden arts, prompting pursuit by the sect’s elders. Although he had mastered its secret techniques and possessed the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus, he jumped from Ghost’s Worry rather than submit to capture. He later defends this choice by stressing the punishment he faced for violating sect rules 3.
He was subsequently reborn as Tang Hao and the Blue Silver Emperor’s son. As a child, he practiced Tang Sect techniques on the mountain behind Holy Soul Village and cooked for his withdrawn father 3.
Early cultivation
Tang Hao initially opposed Tang San’s schooling when he knew only about the Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul. His attitude changed after Tang San revealed the Clear Sky Hammer, and he embraced his son and placed his hopes in him 3 4.
At Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy, Yu Xiaogang deduced that Tang San possessed Twin Martial Souls from his awakening certificate. Tang San responded by kneeling, kowtowing three times, and asking to become his disciple. They subsequently entered the Soul Hunting Forest to obtain his first Soul Ring 4 6.
Tang San later took Xiao Wu home and became her sworn brother. Their relationship developed into a romance; in the Spirit Hall-era present, her soul can only briefly return to her body with medicinal assistance 13 14.
Personality
Tang San treats the Tang Sect’s teachings as both a source of strength and a code of conduct. He guards his abilities closely: when Yu Xiaogang first identifies his Twin Martial Souls, he silently raises his wrist in suspicion, recalling the rule against revealing one’s full strength to anyone not completely trusted 4.
That secrecy can override personal loyalty. According to Jiang Yan, Tang San considered killing Yu Xiaogang after the Mandala Snake encounter to prevent exposure of his transmigrator identity, estimating a seventy-percent chance of success with his Silent Sleeve Arrow. Tang San admits that he considered it but emphasizes that he never acted 11.
His devotion to Xiao Wu is repeatedly demonstrated. He pursues the Titan Giant Ape after it carries her away despite being powerless against it, and he later releases her soul specifically to let her hear the reassuring news that they will have children 14 38.
Tang San is also proud and resistant to challenges to Tang Sect superiority. He dismisses future soul guidance technology before testing it, rejects his first defeat as an unfair demonstration of hidden weapons, and continues promising victory after losing a second match. His anger at mockery eventually leads him to insult the Sky Screen despite its ability to punish him 20 21 24 25.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass—later revealed as the Blue Silver Emperor—and the Clear Sky Hammer 3 12.
- Blue Silver Grass: Used for control and poison-based restraint. Dai Mubai breaks free of it and resists its poison during their early duel 19.
- Blue Silver Emperor: A top-tier Martial Soul with exceptional vitality. Tang San agrees that life-oriented support is its proper cultivation direction, rather than poison 12.
- Restorative potential: Tang San states that Blue Silver Emperor support can restore a person provided even a trace of vitality remains. Jiang Yan describes its potential to restore lost limbs 12.
- Clear Sky Hammer: One of his principal trump cards. During the Shrek entrance assessment, a strike from the small hammer breaks through Zhao Wuji’s raised defense and hits his face 19 28.
Tang Sect Secret Arts
Tang San retains techniques learned before his rebirth 3.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill: Concentrates its power into his palms while killing the Mandala Snake and uses it during his initial exchange with Dai Mubai 11 17.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Provides evasive movement and positional control against the Mandala Snake, Dai Mubai, and Zhao Wuji 11 17 28.
- Purple Demon Eye: Continues cultivating this technique while following the Sky Screen broadcasts; its specific effects are not explained in the supplied passages 24.
- Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record: Supplies rules governing secrecy and treatment of enemies 4 24.
Hidden Weapons
Tang San’s hidden weapons allow him to threaten opponents far above his early cultivation level, but their effectiveness depends on the weapon and the target’s defenses 19 28.
- Against Zhao Wuji: Uses sustained hidden-weapon attacks, poison, and movement techniques to penetrate the Soul Saint’s defenses during the entrance assessment 28.
- Yama’s Invitation: Previously kills the seven-ring Shi Nian, but fails against two layers of Level 7 Invincible Shields 21.
- Against battle armor: None of the hidden weapons he currently possesses penetrate a full set of Three-Word Battle Armor 21.
- Guanyin’s Tears: Jiang Yan states that Tang San nearly slays a god with this top-tier throwing-technique hidden weapon 36.
- Inheritance limitation: The Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record he leaves to the Tang Sect omits top-tier techniques such as Guanyin’s Tears and Bodhi Blood, according to Jiang Yan 36.
Dual Domains
- Tang San recalls using his two domains to remain undefeated against seven-ring Qian Renxue at the Heaven Dou Imperial Palace. The supplied account does not name either domain 21.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Silent Sleeve Arrow — Wrist-launched hidden weapon used against the Mandala Snake; also the weapon associated with his contemplated attempt to silence Yu Xiaogang 11.
- Short sword — Used to kill the Mandala Snake when it opens its mouth 11.
- Yama’s Invitation — Hidden weapon responsible for Shi Nian’s death; blocked by future-era defensive soul tools in the Sky Screen arena 21.
- Eight Spider Soul Bone — One of the advantages Jiang Yan credits for Tang San’s success against higher-ranked opponents 19.
- Immortal herbs from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well — Strengthen Tang San and the Shrek Seven Devils. Jiang Yan states that Dugu Bo originally brought him to this medicinal garden 5 19.
- Lovesick Heartbreak Red and crystal blood dragon ginseng — Enable Xiao Wu’s soul to return briefly to her body 14.
- Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus — Possessed in his previous life; Tang San intends to forge it again after reaching nine rings 3 21.
- Torrential Rain Pear Blossom Needles — Another weapon he plans to forge at nine rings for renewed challenges against future technology 21.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father. Initially questions whether the reincarnated Tang San is truly his son, but later accepts the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline as proof and defends his talent against Yu Xiaogang 3 12.
- Ah Yin — Mother and the Blue Silver Emperor. Tang San is interested in whether the Soul Spirit Method could allow him to see her again; his future self brings both parents to the Divine Realm 6 25.
- Xiao Wu — Sworn sister and lover. News of their future children initially delights them, but revelations about those children’s treatment cause her to withdraw from him 13 14 16 22.
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher. Tang San respects him enough to formally become his disciple, later disputes his poison-oriented cultivation theory, and struggles to explain why his future self never brings him to the Divine Realm 4 12 25.
- Tang Wutong / Wang Dong — Future daughter. Jiang Yan reveals that Tang San separates her body, part of her divine consciousness, and her Divine Realm memories to influence Huo Yuhao 14.
- Tang Wulin — Future son, living twenty thousand years after Tang San’s era. Tang San demands to know the cause of his suffering and publicly objects when Cai Yue’er disparages his strength 16 22.
- Huo Yuhao — Future son-in-law. After learning his identity, Tang San privately resolves to discipline him; Jiang Yan describes the future relationship as a means of securing Huo Yuhao’s loyalty and saving the Tang Sect 14.
- Qian Renxue — Enemy who repeatedly attempts to recruit him. Her later knowledge of his secrecy makes her relieved that those attempts failed 11 39.
- Dugu Bo — Calls Tang San his brother and “Little Monster.” Turns against him after learning that his medicinal garden becomes Tang Sect property while Dugu Yan receives none of its valuable immortal herbs 5.
- Dai Mubai — Fellow member of the Shrek Seven Devils. Defeats Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass-based fighting style in their first duel but later acknowledges the danger of facing him with all his abilities 19.
- Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo — In the revealed final battle, die blocking a fatal blow for him. Jiang Yan criticizes Tang San for never resurrecting them 27 28.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Exposure of his previous life
The anime broadcast reveals Tang San’s original life to viewers across three eras. Jiang Yan presents the idea that he possessed the original infant’s body as a reader interpretation, not an established explanation of his rebirth. Nevertheless, viewers equate this interpretation with Evil Soul Master methods, damaging his reputation in the Peerless and Dragon King eras 3.
Tang Hao initially reacts with horror. His later acceptance of Tang San resolves the immediate family dispute, but the public accusations remain part of the livestream’s attacks on Tang San 3 12.
Reassessment of his cultivation
The broadcast exposes Yu Xiaogang’s willingness to consider a ten-year solitary bamboo as Tang San’s first ring and prompts scrutiny of the poison-based Blue Silver Grass path 10 12.
Tang San openly agrees with Jiang Yan’s explanation of the Blue Silver Emperor’s life-support potential. Yu Xiaogang responds by claiming credit for his achievements, while Tang Hao argues that Tang San succeeded because of his own talent 12.
Revelations about his children
Jiang Yan identifies Tang Wutong as Tang San and Xiao Wu’s daughter, then describes how Tang San divides her into three parts:
| Part | Revealed treatment |
|---|---|
| Physical body | Sent to the lower realm, where she becomes the Clear Sky Sect’s young master and enters Shrek Academy as Wang Dong 14. |
| Portion of divine consciousness | Placed inside the Emperor Auspicious Beast, with its return tied to the beast’s eventual sacrifice for Huo Yuhao 14. |
| Divine Realm memories | Retained by Tang San himself 14. |
Jiang Yan interprets this arrangement as a way to bind Huo Yuhao to Tang San and rescue the Tang Sect. Xiao Wu becomes distraught; Tang San insists that his future self must have faced circumstances they do not yet understand 14.
The identification of Tang Wulin as their second child produces another crisis. While future-era powers rush to find the Sea God’s son, Tang San cannot see the phone comments detailing his suffering and urgently asks the livestream to show him 16.
Hidden weapons versus future technology
After learning that later Tang Sects sell soul tools, Tang San demands that every era’s sect sell only hidden weapons, threatening expulsion for disobedience. He then challenges seven-ring opponents equipped with future technology 21.
| Opponent | Tang San’s approach | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Jing Hongchen’s Level 7 Soul Engineer | Dismisses the slow shell-launching process and attacks with Yama’s Invitation. | Invincible Shields block his weapon; five Level 7 Fixed Soul Guidance Shells blast him out of the match 21. |
| Qiangu Dongfeng’s seven-ring Soul Saint | Uses his available hidden weapons, then attempts a direct Clear Sky Hammer clash. | Cannot penetrate Three-Word Battle Armor and loses again 21. |
Severely injured but unconvinced, he promises renewed challenges at nine rings using stronger hidden weapons 21.
Conflict with the Sky Screen
A parody video turns Tang San’s enemy-killing maxim into the joke “Mother’s Entanglement.” His furious response earns a ten-minute livestream mute 24.
Later, revelations that he brought his parents—but not Yu Xiaogang—to the Divine Realm strain his relationship with his teacher. Tang San insults the Sky Screen outside the chat to avoid another mute, only to receive two lightning strikes that reduce him from rank sixty-six to rank sixty 25.
