Tang San places considerable trust in Yu Xiaogang’s expertise. The Grandmaster’s recognition of his twin Martial Souls is enough to secure his confidence, and he readily agrees to change schools under his teacher’s direction. His limited knowledge of the Soul Master system also makes him receptive to Yu Xiaogang’s proposed cultivation path 7 8.

He reveres his teacher according to the principle that “a teacher for a day was a father for life.” When Yu Xiaogang is poisoned, however, Tang San prioritizes survival over preserving his teacher’s body, performing an emergency amputation while Flender is still hesitating. Afterward, he is visibly troubled by what he had to do 10 16.

His affection for Xiao Wu restrains his anger. When she celebrates Yu Xiaogang’s castration, he nearly responds with “You have courted death,” but holds back after remembering how she gives him extra meat because he looks scrawny 16.

Becoming Yu Xiaogang’s Disciple

Tang San first appears accompanying Yu Xiaogang at Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy. Yu Xiaogang considers his combination of Innate Full Soul Power, apparently weak Blue Silver Grass, and a second Martial Soul an opportunity to validate his theories. Tang San accepts his guidance because the Grandmaster correctly recognizes his twin Martial Souls 7.

Yu Xiaogang then hastily arranges to leave Nuoding City for Suotuo City, ostensibly promising Tang San a better school. His actual motive is to escape Brother Scar’s group and seek Flender’s protection. Tang San agrees without objection 7.

First Soul Ring Hunt

Flender accompanies Tang San and Yu Xiaogang into the Star Dou Great Forest. Yu Xiaogang identifies a ten-year Lone Bamboo as a fallback option, but recommends a Mandala Snake for its toughness and paralytic venom. Tang Hao secretly watches before departing to search for an appropriate beast himself 8.

Tang San kills a four-hundred-year Mandala Snake and begins absorbing its ring. During the absorption, a ten-thousand-year Cave Demon Spider drags Yu Xiaogang underground. Flender pursues the spider while Tang San remains occupied with his breakthrough 9.

Saving Yu Xiaogang

After finishing the absorption, Tang San finds his teacher unconscious and poisoned. An attempt to extract the venom fails, leaving removal of the affected tissue as the only remaining option. Tang San performs the operation despite Flender’s hesitation, stops the bleeding, and confirms that the poison has not reached Yu Xiaogang’s heart meridians 10.

Back at Shrek Academy, Tang San struggles to explain the injury to Xiao Wu. He later assures Flender that, following removal of the poisoned tissue and detoxification, Yu Xiaogang only needs proper rest 16.
