Background / History
Early Life and Connection to Rover
Hundreds of years earlier, Qingxiao was a village girl who discovered the Golden-Eyed Stranger Sword Art while herding livestock. She taught herself its techniques using a tree branch and gained enough skill to survive the Tacet Discord Tide that struck her hometown 2.
She initially believed the manual had been written by Rover. After meeting him, however, she noticed that its techniques differed from his swordsmanship and realized her assumption was mistaken. Two hundred years later, an amnesiac Rover became her disciple, giving them a reciprocal master–disciple relationship. They eventually revised the sword manual together 2.
In the version of the setting altered by Xu Qing’s private server, Qingxiao remained a mounted officer in Xuanfang City. She and its city lord, Xin, were close friends who trusted one another despite their contrasting personalities 2.
Reunion and the Altered Contract
When Xu Qing reached rank 20 while tempering himself in the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, he entered a pure-white card space and found Qingxiao playing a zither. She recognized him as her disciple, gave him clothes suited to his reduced body, and examined his weakened condition. Interpreting his unfamiliar manner as another loss of memory, she offered to teach him again 12 13.
Qingxiao presented an Apprenticeship Pledge, which Xu Qing read and signed. She then gave him a sword talisman jade pendant and instructed him not to neglect his sword practice. After his departure, her Inner Demon took control and transformed the pledge into a Marriage Contract, replacing its teaching obligations with promises of lifelong union 13.
Qingxiao confronted her Inner Demon over the deception, particularly because Xu Qing was physically young and lacked his previous memories. Nevertheless, she refused to surrender the certificate when the Inner Demon offered to marry him in her place. She ultimately kept the document, while Xu Qing remained unaware of its altered contents 14.
The successful card contract made Qingxiao Xu Qing’s second contractee. Her image appeared on his second card, accompanied by chilling sword intent, and the resulting Soul Ring helped his cultivation rise to level 30 14.
Life at the Cultivation Base
After Xu Qing finished tempering his body, Qingxiao acknowledged that his foundation had been established and urged him to cultivate diligently. She supported turning the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well into his cultivation base, but insisted that he continue practicing swordsmanship, calligraphy, and his other studies 17 18.
While Xin constructed a town around the well, Qingxiao privately took reassurance from possessing the marriage contract, considering herself ahead of Xin in securing a bond with Xu Qing. By the time the town was in use, Xu Qing regularly visited her during the day for calligraphy practice 18 21.
Appearance
- Normal form: A graceful woman with ice-blue hair, blue eyes described as starlit, blue Auspicious Beast dragon horns, and a plain white dress 13.
- Distinguishing details: Earrings and facial inscriptions, both of which change color when her Inner Demon takes control 13.
- Inner Demon form: Her hair, eyes, horns, earrings, facial inscriptions, clothing, and lips turn purple; her aloof bearing becomes seductive and openly expressive 13.
- Card depiction: An otherworldly figure holding an ice-blue longsword 14.
Personality
Qingxiao presents herself as cool, restrained, and authoritative. She expects decorum from her disciple and treats sword practice and calligraphy as serious responsibilities. Even during their emotional reunion, she quickly returned to the role of a strict teacher 13 18.
Her reserve conceals considerable affection for Xu Qing. She had prepared clothes for him at every age, found his smaller appearance endearing, and became embarrassed when he noticed her spontaneous gesture of patting his head. Her concern also extends to his consent and future feelings: she objected to the Inner Demon deceiving him into signing a marriage document 13 14.
Her cultivation of the Dao of Emotionlessness has not erased her attachment or irritation. Xin’s teasing repeatedly tests her composure, while her Inner Demon openly challenges the gap between her outward restraint and private desires 2 14 17.
