Bai Yushan's Boundless Potential

Bi Ji recalled their exchange just now.

When Bai Yushan's fist struck her palm, even she had been somewhat surprised by the force. That strength had not come from Soul Power, but from his body alone. His muscles, bones, and meridians all held power far beyond that of others his age.

Moreover, his electric current was very unusual.

For Soul Masters with ordinary lightning-type Martial Souls, electric currents were released through their Martial Souls, consuming large amounts of Soul Power. But Bai Yushan's electric current seemed to grow out of his body on its own, fused with his flesh and blood.

Bi Ji had lived for countless years and seen countless Martial Souls, but this was her first time seeing anything like Bai Yushan's.

With such potential, if his strength could continue increasing at this rate, then once her lord's plan was successfully carried out in the future, a powerful human like Bai Yushan would undoubtedly be their best support!

That was right!

Unlike the other Ferocious Beasts in the Star Dou Great Forest, Bi Ji saw things most clearly.

She had neither let the Soul Beasts' past glory and the Silver Dragon King's revival go to her head, nor rejoiced over the broadly foreseeable future of Soul Beasts. Those Ferocious Beasts were all cheering, all looking forward to it, all believing that the day the Silver Dragon King awakened would be the day Soul Beasts returned to glory.

But Bi Ji knew things were not that simple.

She understood one truth: humans were an indispensable link in driving the world's progress!

They could even be called the most important link!

This was a truth she had witnessed with her own eyes over her countless years of life.

Human lives were short, mere decades passing in a hurry, yet they could always burst forth with a brilliance and radiance that Soul Beasts struggled to release even over thousands or tens of thousands of years.

Wisdom, learning, courage, perseverance...

These beautiful qualities could always compose magnificent epics within a limited span of time.

Bi Ji had seen far, far too many such humans.

She had seen physicians treating the sick during plagues without regard for their own lives, soldiers using their bodies of flesh and blood to hold back Soul Beasts on battlefields, scholars devoting their entire lives to studying the nature of Soul Power, and politicians striving to give ordinary people dignified lives as well.

Among humans, there were good and bad, kind and evil, but often, simple distinctions of good and bad, kindness and evil were not enough to judge a person's life.

Some people had done bad things, but had also done good things. Some appeared upright and respectable, yet were utterly filthy behind closed doors. Some had piled up countless sins in the first half of their lives, only to repent and awaken in the latter half.

These were humans.

Complex, contradictory, unfathomable.

This was also why, many, many years ago, Bi Ji had begun taking human form from time to time and going into human society to treat the sick and wounded.

She had not done it for any reward, nor to understand humanity's weaknesses. She simply wanted to see just how many possibilities this short-lived race held.

Every time she entered human society, she made new discoveries.

New technologies, new ideas, new systems, new cultures...

Humans were always creating, always progressing. They were like a burning fire: although each little flame was short-lived, the fire as a whole burned ever brighter.

And Soul Beasts?

What difference was there between Soul Beasts ten thousand years ago and Soul Beasts ten thousand years later?

None.

They still lived in forests, still survived on instinct, still revered the strong.

In terms of the speed of progress, their ten thousand years could not compare at all to a hundred years for humans.

Thus, Bi Ji could see that humanity could not be destroyed. This world needed humans.

Soul Beasts, however, had now become dispensable.

The thought sent a pang through Bi Ji's heart.

She thought of those Soul Beasts in the Star Dou Great Forest, of their bewildered eyes, of their fear of the future. They did not know what they had done wrong, why they had to make way for humans, or where their future lay.

Bi Ji felt somewhat heartsick.

Her gaze fell on Bai Yushan, then on Na'er.

Her lord's choice to take human form and lose her memories might also have been an experiment. Perhaps her lord, too, had realized that the future of Soul Beasts lay not in the forests, but in human society.

Watching Bi Ji change from one moment to the next, Bai Yushan's eyes were full of bewilderment.

This woman's expression kept shifting, reflective one moment, solemn the next, then suddenly heartsick. It was like a face-changing act. He could not figure out what she was thinking at all.

What a nutcase, he thought.

Then he spoke impatiently. "Hey, big sis, where's my room?"

He had been sitting on this sofa for ages, eaten a meal, watched Na'er cry, and watched Bi Ji stare into space. Now all he wanted was somewhere to lie down and sleep.

Only then did Bi Ji come back to her senses.

She blinked, pulled herself out of her thoughts, and smiled at Bai Yushan's impatient face.

"It's around the corner on the second floor. I'll have someone take you up."

She clapped her hands, and a maid came over.

"Take Young Master Xiaoshan to his room."

The maid nodded, walked up to Bai Yushan, and bowed slightly. "Young Master Xiaoshan, please follow me."

Bai Yushan hopped off the sofa and followed the maid upstairs.

Na'er immediately let go of his arm and followed behind him, her little hand catching his sleeve again.

Bai Yushan glanced back at her.

"What are you following me for? Your room isn't this way, is it?"

Na'er shook her head, pointing at Bai Yushan, then at herself.

From downstairs, Bi Ji said, "Na'er, your room is next to Xiaoshan's. There's a door between your rooms. Just push it open and you can go between them. You can take a look at Xiaoshan's room first, too."

At those words, a smile immediately appeared on Na'er's face, and her grip on Bai Yushan's sleeve tightened.

Bai Yushan was speechless.

Was this little girl made of sticky candy? He couldn't shake her off no matter what.

He followed the maid up to the second floor, along a carpeted corridor, and stopped before a white wooden door.

The maid opened the door, and Bai Yushan walked in.

The room was spacious, with a large bed standing right in its center, covered in white sheets and bedding, and a lamp glowing warm yellow on the bedside table. A desk stood by the window, with several books and a pen neatly arranged on it. In the corner stood a large wardrobe with its doors open, several sets of clothes hanging inside.

Bai Yushan walked to the window and looked outside.

Outside was the manor's backyard, where a broad stretch of lawn gleamed silver-white in the moonlight. Several rows of trees stood in the distance, their shadows swaying.

This room was ten thousand times better than his dormitory at the academy.

Bai Yushan nodded in satisfaction, turned, and flopped onto the bed.

The mattress was neither too soft nor too firm, and the quilt gave off a faint, fresh fragrance. Lying there, Bai Yushan felt every bone in his body turn to jelly.

Na'er climbed onto the bed as well and lay beside him.

She turned onto her side and looked at Bai Yushan, her amethyst-like eyes brimming with smiles.

"Big brother, can Na'er sleep beside you from now on?"

With his eyes closed, Bai Yushan said, "Suit yourself."

A sweet-smelling, soft little loli was better than nothing, wasn't she?
