Personality

Zhao Wuji is hot-tempered, blunt, and fiercely protective of his students. He responds to Ye Zhiqiu injuring them with immediate violence and refuses to hear an explanation. A fugitive with dozens of lives on his hands, he readily embraces intimidation and killing rather than presenting himself as a morally restrained educator 19 20 55.

His loyalty is not limited to confronting weaker opponents. Against the much stronger Meng Shu, he chooses to stay behind so his students can escape. He considers protecting them sufficient fulfillment of his duty as a teacher, even when facing torture and death. Their decision to return for him moves him to tears 24 25 26.

Despite his rough manner, Zhao Wuji can be generous and attentive. He initially gives Shangguan Hong a valuable Soul Bone rather than claiming his student’s opportunity, then personally nurses him after believing he has suffered grave injuries. He also enjoys food, alcohol, banter, and showing off his gains to fellow teachers 57 58 60 61 62.

Shrek Academy Entrance Examination

Already a level 76 Soul Saint and Shrek Academy’s vice principal, Zhao Wuji personally takes over the final entrance assessment after five applicants bypass the second and third stages. He is especially pleased that the group includes a Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda Soul Master and a Soul Elder 11 12.

He first targets Ning Rongrong to remove the team’s support, then repels Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing. Shangguan Hong’s summoned Mordekaiser surprises him with its strength, persistent underworld flames, and ability to recover from damage. Zhao Wuji judges Shangguan Hong qualified but continues testing the others. After Xiao Wu is knocked unconscious, Tang San takes over the fight and secures admission for the group 12 13 14.

Blue Sunshine Academy Confrontation

During the journey to Star Dou Great Forest, Zhao Wuji intervenes after Ye Zhiqiu injures Shrek students outside an inn. He overwhelms the Soul King, disperses the witnesses, and takes Ye Zhiqiu and the accompanying Blue Sunshine Academy students into the forest 19 20.

He turns the encounter into a brutal lesson for Tang San and Shangguan Hong: Zhao Wuji kills Ye Zhiqiu and encourages the boys to kill the students to prevent future retaliation. He leaves them to dispose of the bodies while he returns to address the other Shrek students’ reactions 20.

Star Dou Great Forest Crisis

While helping Oscar obtain his third Soul Ring, Zhao Wuji captures a Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent previously wounded by Chao Tianxiang. Oscar has already begun absorbing its ring when she and Meng Yiran arrive. Zhao Wuji initially negotiates, but later blocks Chao Tianxiang from intervening in Shangguan Hong’s increasingly lethal fight with Meng Yiran 21 22 23.

Meng Shu’s arrival reverses the situation. After being injured, Zhao Wuji orders Shangguan Hong to evacuate the students and activates his Martial Soul Avatar to cover their escape. With Ning Rongrong’s assistance, he counterattacks Meng Shu, grievously injures Chao Tianxiang, and kills Meng Yiran 24.

He severs Meng Shu’s arm but is left immobilized and nearly dead. Several students return to defend him despite his protests. Following the forest crisis and the Titan Giant Ape encounter, Zhao Wuji survives but has almost no fighting strength remaining 25 26 28.

The group eventually returns to Shrek Academy. Ning Rongrong arranges for a Soul King-level healing Soul Master from her sect, while Flender supplies treasured medicinal herbs to prevent lasting complications 31.

Sunset Forest Expedition

When Shangguan Hong reaches level 40, Zhao Wuji volunteers to obtain his fourth Soul Ring. He rejects Yu Xiaogang’s proposal to prioritize a healing summon, arguing that sacrificing Shangguan Hong’s combat potential would waste his talent 54 55.

In Sunset Forest, Zhao Wuji defeats a newly ten-thousand-year Earth Demon Bear and guards Shangguan Hong through the ring absorption. The beast also yields a left leg Soul Bone. Zhao Wuji gives it to his student despite its exceptional compatibility with his own Martial Soul, then accepts it only after repeated insistence. Absorbing it raises him to level 77 56 57 58.

Unknown to him, Shangguan Hong manipulates the expedition through drugged food, alcohol, and a staged Soul Beast rampage. Return to Heaven Dou City

Shangguan Hong stages a desperate battle and wounds himself before waking Zhao Wuji. Believing the student protected him while he was unconscious, Zhao Wuji administers expensive medicines and carries him out of Sunset Forest. He remains unaware that Shangguan Hong has reached level 67 and is concealing his Soul Power as level 43 60 61.

After learning that Dugu Bo expelled Shrek’s party from Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Zhao Wuji locates them at Blue Tyrant Academy. There, he defends the Earth Demon Bear ring choice against Yu Xiaogang’s criticism and displays his new Soul Bone as evidence of the expedition’s success 61 62.
