Yu Yuanzhen is deeply invested in his clan’s future and openly favors Yu Xuan as its prospective successor. After learning that Yu Xuan has awakened the Fire Dragon King, he enthusiastically predicts his future strength and appoints him young master with an elder’s standing. He also enjoys displaying his son’s achievements to acquaintances, arranging a spar with Zhu Yingjie partly to show off Yu Xuan’s talent 3 15.

His support for Yu Xuan is affectionate but protective. He personally escorts him on Soul Ring hunts, checks his physical condition before allowing unusually old Soul Rings, and guards him during dangerous absorptions. Although persuaded by Yu Xuan’s strengthened spiritual power, he warns him against continuing to temper his Sea of Consciousness with fire 5 11 14 24.

His treatment of Yu Xiaogang combines concern, disappointment, and preoccupation with his own reputation. He initially avoids crushing Xiaogang’s hope that exercising Luo Sanpao might restore its dragon form, but later rebukes his lack of effort and strikes him when he makes demands. His refusal to accompany Xiaogang’s first Soul Ring hunt and opposition to his academy enrollment are influenced by fear of public embarrassment 8 16 19 26.

History

His Sons’ Awakening and the Succession

Yu Yuanzhen presides over the awakening ceremony attended by his twin sons. While the elders celebrate Yu Xiaogang’s apparent Golden Sacred Dragon, he notices that the Martial Soul has not reached its final form. Its collapse into Luo Sanpao leaves him disappointed, and Yu Xuan’s subsequent awakening makes him anxious that his other son might suffer a similar failure 1 2.

Yu Xuan instead awakens the Fire Dragon King with Innate Full Soul Power. Yu Yuanzhen recognizes the significance of a dragon king Martial Soul and, following the elders’ nomination, appoints Yu Xuan young master. He also sends Yu Jue and Yu Cheng to retrieve Xiaogang after the boy flees the ceremony 3.

First Soul Ring Expedition

Before their first hunt, Yu Xuan persuades his father to provide Thousand-Year Whale Rubber using a forged passage in the Thunder Medicinal Classic. Yu Yuanzhen prepares an ice bath and later confirms that Yu Xuan’s body is comparable to that of a prospective level-thirty Soul Elder. Impressed by the results, he plans to have clan disciples secretly purchase more Whale Rubber 4 5.

In the Star Dou Great Forest, he recommends a fire-attribute sub-dragon Soul Beast. Their search leads into a scorched secret realm, where his Eighth Soul Skill cannot damage a sealed stone gate. Yu Xuan’s Martial Soul opens it instead, revealing the Fire Dragon King Reverse Scale. Yu Yuanzhen also discovers a vermilion herb during their exploration 5 6.

The reverse scale allows them to escape after the entrance initially refuses to let them leave. Yu Yuanzhen then subdues an approximately fifteen-hundred-year-old Tail Blade Flame Dragon for Yu Xuan’s first Soul Ring. He extracts its weapon-type External Soul Bone and gives it to his son to absorb after returning home 7.

Training and Clan Affairs

Yu Yuanzhen places both sons under Yu Luowu for the clan’s required two months of combat training. When Xiaogang resists, he insists that poor Martial Soul talent is no excuse to abandon self-improvement 8 9.

Using the Breaking Clan’s Rare Treasures Pharmacopoeia, he identifies the herb from the secret realm as Scarlet Fire Crimson Spinach. He refuses Xiaogang’s request to consume it because its fire attribute and medicinal potency could damage his meridians or destroy his body. After guarding Yu Xuan’s refinement and confirming that his foundation remains sound, he gives him a staffed three-courtyard residence to prevent Xiaogang from disrupting his cultivation 10 11.

Three years later, Yu Yuanzhen arranges for Yu Luomian’s illegitimate daughter, Liu Erlong, to return for her awakening. His principal concern is preventing the clan’s Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon bloodline from passing into outside hands. He hosts her awakening at his residence and is pleased when she manifests a Fire Dragon with level-eight Innate Soul Power 12 13.

Third Soul Ring and Divine Inheritance

When Yu Xuan reaches level thirty, Yu Yuanzhen immediately takes him hunting. After hearing how the Scarlet Fire Crimson Spinach and flame-based spiritual tempering have strengthened him, he permits an attempt at a Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring 14.

He gravely wounds a One-Horned Fire Tyrant Dragon and encounters his old acquaintance Zhu Xun, whose group had also pursued it. Yu Yuanzhen arranges a spar between Yu Xuan and Zhu Xun’s nephew, Zhu Yingjie. Yu Xuan’s victory over the level-fifty opponent delights him 14 15 16.

After the Soul Ring absorption, a blood-red pillar surrounds Yu Xuan. Yu Yuanzhen rushes forward and attempts to break through its barrier, fearing for his son. Once Yu Xuan explains that he has received the Asura God’s inheritance, his alarm turns to encouragement. He agrees that Yu Xuan should prepare before entering Slaughter City and later shares news of the inheritance with the clan 16 17 18.

Fourth Soul Ring and Spirit Hall Academy

Yu Yuanzhen and Yu Luomian discuss Qian Daoliu’s invitation for Yu Xuan to attend Spirit Hall Academy, leaving the decision to Yu Xuan. By contrast, when Xiaogang reaches level ten, Yu Yuanzhen directs him to his assigned overseers for his first hunt and forbids him from attempting a Thousand-Year First Soul Ring 18 19.

After an independent journey, Yu Xuan returns with Thunderclap Immortal Lingzhi. Refining it raises Yu Yuanzhen to level ninety-three, after which he accompanies his son on a fourth Soul Ring hunt 22 23.

They encounter a roughly thirty-five-thousand-year-old Calamity Fire Yazi whose strength challenges even his Martial Soul Avatar. Yu Xuan wounds and suppresses it, creating an opening for Yu Yuanzhen’s Ninth Soul Skill. Together they bring it to the brink of death, allowing Yu Xuan to deliver the final blow. Yu Yuanzhen guards the subsequent absorption and retrieves the crimson bead dropped by the beast 23 24.

More than two months later, he refuses Xiaogang’s demand to accompany Yu Xuan to Spirit Hall Academy and strikes him during the argument. He then escorts Yu Xuan to Spirit City, where Dean Kong Lin receives them 25 26.
