Background / History

Previous Life and Awakening

Luo Yu originally lived on Earth as an office worker. After years of work, he had bought a car and a house, only for extraterrestrial bodies of water to trigger a global downpour. Creatures exposed to the rain mutated into zombies, and the old social order collapsed. Trapped by food shortages, he roasted and ate a zombie fish, dying of food poisoning 1.

He then awakened in the body of a teenage boy also named Luo Yu. Although he initially believed he had entered another world, he discovered that this ocean-dominated civilization was Earth more than a century later 1 52.

Inheriting the Research Institute

The original Luo Yu was the son of researcher Luo Shui and a woman from Azure Waves Island. His parents had provided an intensive private education, leaving him little recreation or contact with children his own age. Both died in a shipwreck while traveling to Azure Waves Island 1 5.

With little money remaining and the island preparing to reclaim the Luo Shui Research Institute, Luo Yu requested another year to complete his parents’ Ink Fish research. He exaggerated his involvement in their experiments, relying instead on his own breeding experience and newly discovered ability to read individual talents 1.

His mother’s family belonged to an artistic lineage on the Azure Billows Continent. His maternal grandparents were musicians whose family specialized in pet-beast performances that enhanced people and mutated beasts. Rather than seeking their support, Luo Yu chose to establish himself independently 8 83 84.

His training philosophy combines a beast’s talents with its interests, particularly July’s enthusiasm for fishing 4 15.

He is demanding of both himself and his pets. He accepts painful daily enhancement stings and subjects July to heat, water, and resistance training because survival matters more to him than comfort. His willingness to endure the same methods distinguishes him from an instructor who merely imposes suffering on others 6 32 42 101.

His humor is frequently teasing and self-congratulatory. He turns Chen Bo’s apology into a supposed debt, jokes about recruiting him as a son before correcting himself to “employee,” and readily declares his own training methods top-tier. Alongside this opportunism, he prioritizes useful discoveries for people around him and proposes free lessons for disadvantaged students 9 15 25 81 101.

Establishing the Institute

Luo Yu breaks the breeder qualification assessment’s age record at fifteen and establishes himself through medical Ink Fish and enhancement-type Honey Water Bees. He expands from research into tutoring, taking responsibility for Wang Ze’s three students and later proposing free lessons for disadvantaged students 29 70 101.

First Voyage and the Sea of Ghosts

He joins the Mirror Moon Island delegation to Thousand Rock Island to assess Rock Goats while studying under Shui Wuyue. On the return voyage, the Sea of Ghosts admits him alone. After rejecting ghosts with impractical obsessions, he contracts the Bee Empress because her ambition complements his breeding work 48 52 56 57 58.

Guardian Patronage and the Abyss Trial

At the Mirror Moon Celebration, Luo Yu challenges a Superior Species zombie beast and receives the guardian deity’s blessing. He subsequently demonstrates Water Devil Beast evolution and wins the guardian’s support for further experiments. His larger proposal is to succeed in the Abyss Trial and help Mirror Moon Island establish ties with the Abyss-Eroding Killer Whale clan 70 72 73 74 75 140.

He travels to Future Town for the strength assessment, defeats Yun Qing’s Radiant Tide Dragon, and pursues cooperation with Shi Qianqian. Preparations then include sea training, gravity-room training for July, a commissioned warship, and increasingly specialized dependent-evolution experiments 91 104 122 132.

Preparing for the Zombie Tide

Luo Yu proposes treating injured retired Beast Tamers and entrusting medical Water Devil Beasts to recovered veterans under island contracts. As the Zombie Tide approaches, he breeds more than three hundred Antivirus Master Ink Fish and prepares 121 for an evolution experiment. He also suggests turning the newly forming volcanic island into a military base and first defensive line 115 139.

By Chapter 140, he is identified as deputy island lord, although the position and Water Devil Beast research remain little known among ordinary island residents. He visits the fishing-tackle shop to investigate the condition of specially injured islanders 140.
