• Dominion core: Evolution centers on an Ink Fish with Dominion. Luo Yu’s first successful test follows his decision to make that fish the strongest member of its group 22.
• Crisis trigger: The school is threatened or frightened into merging. Its members become ink, gather around the core, and condense into a single body 22 73 94.
• Physical development: Weak, underdeveloped fish cannot sustain the transformation, as demonstrated by the first failed evolution 22.
• Fusion limit: Repeated experiments indicate a normal maximum of 121 Ink Fish. Excess fish are rejected rather than incorporated; raising the core’s level by several levels does not increase the observed limit 94 110 126.
• Reproduction: The evolved beast is sexless and is treated as unable to breed, making the preservation of valuable Ink Fish breeding stock important 110 128.

Talent Customization

• Talents do not simply accumulate: The first specimen retains Dominion, Big Eater, and Vitality rather than every talent possessed by its 81 component fish. Big Eater and Vitality were the most common non-core talents in that group 23.
• Repeated talents can strengthen: Fifty Deadly Poison talents become Poison King, while fifty Spray Warrior talents become Piercing a Willow Leaf at a Hundred Paces 73.
• Different talents can combine: Stone Formation, Thick Skin and Tough Flesh, and Ice Skin merge into the single Frozen Body talent 94.
• Customization can alter attributes and species abilities: Specialized breeding produces poison and rock attributes, as well as additional abilities such as Healing Bubble and Cloning 73 110 132.
• Higher-grade results are not guaranteed: Fusing 120 senior-level Mercy talents improves the resulting healing talent but does not produce a top-level talent 110.
• Talent capacity: Luo Yu plans July’s dependent around a stated Monarch Species limit of four talents 97.
• Memories may influence the result: July’s repeated exposure of his dependent Ink Fish to fishing equipment produces Fishing Tackle Mastery. Luo Yu consequently proposes that childhood familiarity with particular equipment could improve the corresponding transformation 132.

Appearance

• General form: A massive, ink-black octopus with a rounded body, eight chain-like arms, and red eyes. Stable specimens span more than ten meters, including their tentacles 73 94 132.
• Suckers: The first stable individual has washbasin-sized suckers that flash with dim purple light 73.
• Poison variant: Its body carries a dark purple sheen 110.
• Frozen Body variant: Rough skin resembles frozen rock and gives off a freezing chill 94.
• Medical variant: Distinguished by round white patches 110.
• Rock variant: Has a mountain-like body and ruby-like eyes 132.
• Variable size and shape: The Rock Devil Beast can compress itself into a miniature form resembling an Ink Fish 134.

Temperament and Intelligence

Water Devil Beasts commonly emerge furious because their component Ink Fish evolve while under threat. Their combined anger can overwhelm their reason, leaving the newly evolved creature intent on retaliation. Even after settling down, they can lose control when angered and become indiscriminately berserk 97 101 109.

Their intelligence increases after evolution, and they retain memories from their lives as Ink Fish. The first stable specimen recognizes Yu Wan as its feeder once its initial confusion subsides. Luo Yu therefore recommends caring well for the fish before evolution to establish goodwill, although affection alone does not guarantee control over a powerful dependent 76 95.

The Rock Devil Beast is an exception to the usual post-evolution frenzy. It remains calm and accepts July’s authority. Luo Yu considers its upbringing, prior training, and Absolute Control talent possible explanations rather than identifying one confirmed cause 133.

Ink Sea Raging Tide

Produces a surging sea of ink capable of engulfing opponents and disrupting their minds 76 127.

• Overwhelms Chen Bo’s Thunderbolt Shrimp, leaving it confused and attacking its own master 76.
• Generates enough liquid to threaten July with drowning even when small quantities of poison would be manageable 109.
• Allows the poison variant to flood a heated pit, cool it, and float free 109.

Shapeshifting at Will

The beast turns its body into ink and reassembles it into other forms, including creatures, tools, weapons, and armor 76 127.

• Demonstrated forms include a Thunderbolt Shrimp-like body, an enormous broom, and fishing equipment 76 135.
• Equipment transformations allow a bloodline master to wield its dependent directly in combat 76.

Physical Strength and Durability

Even the first level 6 specimen possesses a substantial physical advantage over ordinary species 76.

• Scatters the lightning of a Thunderbolt Shrimp three life levels above it despite electricity’s attribute advantage 76.
• Creates a large crater and cracks extending several meters with an unaided tentacle strike 76.
• The level 11 poison specimen forms flowing ink armor around its tentacles and initially bats away July’s magma with only minor scratches 109.
• Its size can become a liability against terrain manipulation: July destabilizes it with pits and repeatedly lands magma attacks in a restricted arena 109.

Specialized Variants

Poison King Water Devil Beast

• Poison King grants immunity to poisons and highly concentrated toxins 73.
• Its ink poison enters through skin contact, initially causing paralysis, followed by confusion and uncontrolled attacks against friend and foe. Severe exposure can drive victims to expend themselves until their bodies fail 108.
• The poison has remedies; it is not described as incurable 108.
• July’s high temperature destroys the active components in small quantities of ink, but does not remove the danger of being engulfed 109.
• Its sharpshooting talent cannot be used effectively in the cramped sparring arena. Luo Yu notes that open water and greater distance would strongly favor it against July 109.

Frozen Body Water Devil Beast

• Produced from a mixture including approximately 22 Stone Formation, 70 Thick Skin and Tough Flesh, and 28 Ice Skin Ink Fish 94.
• Its evolution transmits ice power to its bloodline master, turning Chen Zhuo’s Blazing Armor Lizard into a Blazing Fire Ice Lizard 94.
• The dependent bond fails when the lizard cannot withstand the new Monarch bloodline’s pressure 94 95.

Medical Water Devil Beast

• Formed from one Dominion Ink Fish and 120 Mercy Ink Fish 110.
• Miraculous Healing Hands can treat most diseases and injuries affecting the body, mind, and soul, exceeding Mercy’s original external-wound treatment 110.
• Healing Bubble begins treating Shui Wuyue’s old injuries and produces a sensation in his soul-damaged arm. At level 8, its power is initially insufficient to regenerate that soul damage 111.
• Continued treatment resolves Shui Wuyue’s hidden injuries 115.
• Repairs damage to Qin Tie’s Mental Contract, enabling his recruitment into the island’s new military force 141.

Lust Water Devil Beast

• Its ink intensifies desire, greatly accelerates pregnancy, and increases offspring numbers 126.
• Affected creatures become weakened and unable to fight after mating, pregnancy, and childbirth 126.
• Luo Yu restrains it to prevent indiscriminate release of its ink and requests a sample for research 128.

Rock Devil Beast

July’s customized bloodline dependent combines rock manipulation with unusually precise transformations 132 133.

• Ore-based equipment: Incorporating an Electric Crystal lets July electrocute the poison specimen through the transformed fishing rod’s line and hook 135.
• Cloning limit: Copies share the original’s power rather than multiplying it. Eight equal bodies each possess one-eighth of its strength; it can also allocate only one-tenth to a single clone 134.
• Automatic fishing: Its rod form independently searches for prey, controls its line, and hooks targets 135.
• Extended sensing: Its fishing line exceeds ten thousand meters, senses its surroundings, and branches to search different stretches of sea. Combat strength is low while extended in this form 136.
• Multiple tools: It later divides into eight fishing rods for July to use simultaneously 139.

Virus Bane Water Devil Beast

• Its abilities have an exceptionally strong exterminating effect on viral lifeforms 140.
• At the limit of its species abilities, it can gently purify viral lifeforms whose species rank and life level do not exceed its own 140.
• Restored lifeforms become like newborns: their strength is greatly reduced, and they lose memories of their former lives 140.
• Its purifying ink kills a level 10 zombie Crawler with a single drop 141.

Background / History

Discovery and Stable Evolution

Luo Yu’s research begins with the hypothesis that a Dominion Ink Fish must lead its school to become the core of a Water Devil Beast. His first experiment produces only a brief, malformed body, but its recorded data reveals a Monarch Species with customizable inherited talents. Selective breeding eventually produces the first stable specimen, convincing Mirror Moon Island’s leaders that Ink Fish can provide a steady source of Monarch beasts 22 23 73 74.

The Mirror Moon Giant Crocodile initially takes the poison specimen for training and study. It is later returned to the institute, where Yu Wan manages it alongside the Frozen Body specimen in an underground Monarch training ground. Their sparring sessions help July practice resisting Monarch pressure and prepare to control his own future dependent 77 95 109.

Dependent Evolution Method

Luo Yu’s method has a beast contract a Dominion Ink Fish before the fish evolves. The first experiment proves that the dependent’s evolution can change its master’s attributes, but also exposes the danger: the newly evolved Monarch can resist the bond and destroy the master’s Commander Heterogeneity. Chen Zhuo’s Blazing Armor Lizard undergoes mutation but loses control of its dependent 94 95.

July’s experiment succeeds without that backlash. His Rock Devil Beast remains calm, recognizes him as its keeper, and accepts the contract. Its evolution awakens July’s rock bloodline and helps him become a Gem Penguin, preparing him for his subsequent evolution into a Lava Tyrannosaurus through the Ancient Evolution Stone 132 133.

Mirror Moon Island’s Monarch Legion

The medical variant’s success leads Luo Yu and Yu Lei to propose healing injured veterans and assigning them Water Devil Beasts under island contracts. The island would provide the beasts and their upkeep in exchange for military service 115 116.

Qin Tie becomes the first soldier recruited into the Monarch Legion and is promised full ownership of his assigned Water Devil Beast after fifteen years of service. Its anti-zombie specialization supports his frontline duties, and Luo Yu names the special operations unit Umbrella 141.

Planned Developments

• Yu Wan’s mental-type beast: Luo Yu breeds Mental Overload and Danger Sense lines to combine psychic strength with advance warning of danger. He intends the result to complement her telekinesis, astrology, and navigation; foresight and a possible connection to time remain hypotheses 139.
• Shi Qianqian’s family: Luo Yu contracts to provide a Water Devil Beast within one year. Shi Qianqian recognizes that an ordinary specimen will differ greatly from July’s specially bred Rock Devil Beast 139.
• Further species evolution: Virus Bane motivates Luo Yu to investigate how Water Devil Beasts themselves might evolve beyond Lower Monarch rank 140.
