When Kael'thas arrived in the Ghostlands, he was stunned. He could hardly believe his eyes! In the game, the Ghostlands had been a dark, deathly silent land full of ghosts and Undead.
Since becoming a high elf, Kael'thas had assumed that, because it was called the Ghostlands, it would still be a dark, desolate place even before the disaster struck.
But reality was nothing like he had expected. Towering trees with white bark and golden leaves stood among elegant high elf buildings. Apart from lacking the bright, brilliant, springlike sunlight of Eversong Woods, it was not dark at all!
It was like a moonlit version of Eversong Woods...
Appearances can be deceiving...
Kael'thas sighed. His tall ears picked up the cries of Hawkstriders in the distance, and he immediately knew the people sent to meet him had arrived. He whistled, calling Xiao Ao back.
"Pree~"
A firebird engulfed in golden flames swooped swiftly down from the sky. It had a slender, graceful body and was about the size of a basketball. After its mutation, Xiao Ao the phoenix had successfully become a little phoenix. Its days as a fat chicken were over, and it would no longer cause misunderstandings.
Name: Ao Race: phoenix Level: 15 (juvenile, experience required for next level: 13,600) Skills: Fire Blast - it spits a ball of fire from its mouth, damaging the enemy and inflicting a burning effect that lasts 10 minutes. It can transmit its master's voice over any distance. Traits: Loyalty - this phoenix is a summoned pet unique to Kael'thas. Its Loyalty is fixed at 100%. If Kael'thas dies, the phoenix will willingly die with its master. Synchronization - this phoenix's level automatically synchronizes with Kael'thas's and requires no additional experience.
Xiao Ao landed on Kael'thas's right shoulder. It was very light, and its flames would not harm its master. Kael'thas affectionately stroked its little head and smiled as he watched it narrow its eyes in apparent enjoyment.
Soon, a squad of high elf soldiers riding Hawkstriders came up to him. They carried bows and arrows and were a squad of rangers. At their head was a young high elf woman with a striking figure.
She had golden hair, and her lovely face somewhat resembled that of the girl who had listened to him sing.
"I am Alleria Windrunner, captain of this ranger squad. I was ordered to come and escort you, Prince Kael'thas!"
The young woman leaped down from her Hawkstrider, walked over, and saluted Kael'thas.
Her name astonished Kael'thas. Alleria Windrunner-wasn't she the eldest of the Windrunner Sisters, the older sister of Sylvanas, the future queen of the Forsaken?
In history, Alleria was a ranger leader full of a sense of justice. During the Second War, however, she led her troops to join the human Alliance. After her family died at the hands of the Orcs, she followed the humans in pursuit of the Orcs to Outland and disappeared. And this woman eventually married a human man.
Kael'thas put the thought aside and replied with a smile, "I've heard of you, Alleria. You're the ranger captain with the most enemy kills. My father calls you the rising star of the rangers. Now that I've met you, I can see your beauty is every bit the equal of your strength!"
"You flatter me, Your Highness!"
Alleria blushed slightly. She was nearly an adult, but no one had ever praised her upon meeting her the way Kael'thas had. Her favorability toward him shot up at once.
Just as Kael'sala said, His Highness isn't a stuffy prince...
"Ding..."
Alleria's favorability toward you has increased to 70...
The system notification sounded in Kael'thas's ear, leaving him somewhat puzzled. Generally, high elves started with an affection rating of 60 toward him. Over the years, he had gained a great many affection points, but aside from a few people, they had basically all been Loyalty. Why was Alleria's favorability instead?
Incidentally, Kael'sala's favorability toward him was the highest, already at 98! There was practically no chance of the brothers turning on each other, and Kael'thas was completely reassured.
Alleria then took charge of Kael'thas from the people who had escorted him and accompanied him toward Tranquillien, a high elf town in the Ghostlands.
Once there, Kael'thas would be treated as an ordinary high elf and assigned the tasks a new recruit was supposed to do.
Although she hadn't heard where he would be assigned, Alleria had long been certain that Kael'thas would be placed under her command. How could that brother-con possibly feel at ease leaving Kael'thas under anyone else?
In the end, I'm still the one who has to suffer and toil...
Alleria sighed inwardly, only to hear Kael'thas ask her a question in a clear voice.
"Alleria, how many siblings do you have?"
Alleria's heart tightened. Kael'thas turned to look at her, his blue eyes showing nothing but simple curiosity.
"Oh, I have a younger sister and a younger brother!"
Alleria answered.
A younger sister and brother? Could it be that the youngest sister hasn't been born yet?
Kael'thas's thoughts raced, but he gave Alleria no sign that anything was amiss. He continued to ask "curiously," "What are their names? Are they as old as me?"
"They're both only a few years old. Their names are Vereesa and Lirath!"
Alleria thought of the two little ones she had seen when she went home a few years ago, and a very sweet smile spread across her face.
Vereesa and Lirath!?
Kael'thas froze. Could it be that Sylvanas doesn't exist!?
What he feared most had still come to pass...
If gaining an older brother and having his fate changed made Kael'thas happy, then Sylvanas's disappearance meant he had completely lost his grasp on the future. The future was shrouded in mist, and it filled his heart with unease!
Was this world really Azeroth?
