Background / History

Qiao Beiqiao was a Chinese cultivator who spent decades searching different countries for a way to enter Foundation Establishment. His cultivation had stagnated at Qi Cultivation Completion, despite his position as Shibuya’s Third Emperor and the strength he had accumulated through cultivation. He operated from a shabby Taoist temple on Kanagawa’s outskirts under the name “Qiao Beiqiao Agency.” 185 186

During Chiffon’s workplace experience, the two met after Chiffon sought out the agency to confirm whether Qiao was a cultivator. Qiao agreed to lead him to a Spiritual Energy-rich cultivation site in return for aid reaching Foundation Establishment. Chiffon gave him a Qi Cultivation Pill while falsely describing it as a Foundation Establishment Pill; it nevertheless broke Qiao’s bottleneck. 185 186

Qiao brought Chiffon to Water Moon Cave Heaven, a hidden waterfall cave with dense Spiritual Energy and a defensive array. There, he discovered that Chiffon possessed knowledge of spells that his own cultivation tradition had never taught him. 186 187

Appearance

Qiao initially appeared as an elderly, balding Taoist in a worn gray robe, usually carrying a Bagua Plate or Fly Whisk. Cultivation repeatedly restored his youth.

  • First seen as an old man in gray Taoist robes. 185
  • Appeared roughly ten years younger after Foundation Establishment. 186
  • Had black hair and the appearance of a man in his thirties at peak Foundation Establishment. 415
  • Later appeared around twenty-five years old, though he still used his old-fashioned Fly Whisk. 445

Personality

Qiao is opportunistic, greedy, and highly experienced at turning dangerous situations into profit. He routinely negotiates for larger shares of loot, carries burlap sacks to tombs, and views tomb raiding, black markets, and military-base infiltration as opportunities for wealth. 188 191 209 210

Despite his avarice, he is pragmatic rather than reckless. He knows when an opponent is beyond him, relies on Chiffon’s judgment in high-risk situations, and accepts unfavorable arrangements when they offer a path to greater cultivation. 334 374 402

He is deeply ambitious about cultivation. Although initially reluctant to surrender decades of progress, he accepted the Thousand Revolutions Ancient Art and became Chiffon’s junior disciple after recognizing the limitations of his former method. 333 334

Abilities & Skills

Cultivation

Qiao is a cultivator who rebuilt his foundation through the Thousand Revolutions Ancient Art, allowing him to progress far beyond the limits of his original incomplete method.

  • Uses Spiritual Sense to detect nearby people, survey surroundings, and assess threats. 339 416
  • Can glide or travel rapidly through the air; this mobility was already notable after his first Foundation Establishment breakthrough. 186 195
  • Survived multiple Lightning Tribulations with Chiffon’s aid. 404 424
  • Reached the Nascent Soul realm through prolonged spirit-stone cultivation. 430

Spellcasting

Qiao initially lacked formal spell knowledge, but Chiffon taught him several techniques.

  • Fireball Technique — Condenses and launches fireballs; used to burn obstacles, attack enemies, and destroy the trapped Heroic Spirit. 188 189 191
  • Invisibility Technique — Learned directly from Chiffon; can conceal himself, though the Jin Nation’s king can see through it. 257
  • Dust-Cleansing Formula — Was applied to him by Chiffon; the context does not confirm that Qiao personally learned it. 267

Tomb Raiding

Qiao has raided several tombs and treats the activity as a source of cultivation resources, artifacts, and wealth.

  • Located tomb entrances hidden beneath mass graves and bone piles. 189
  • Identified dangers such as Heroic Spirits, traps, and concealed passages. 189 191
  • Obtained the Bagua Plate through tomb raiding. 188
  • Led Chiffon into the Grave Blade Emperor’s tomb. 188 190

Combat

Qiao combines cultivated energy, spells, and artifacts in battle.

  • Defeated the Grave Blade Emperor’s Heroic Spirit after trapping it with the Bagua Plate and destroying it with Fireball Technique. 190 191
  • Easily repelled multiple black-market combatants with a flick of his Fly Whisk. 193
  • Defeated Shagou, an Ancient God Black Market enforcer whose strength rivaled the Three Emperors. 195
  • Suppressed Flame Phoenix Johnston and neutralized his Flame Phoenix with the Bagua Plate. 214
  • Killed several Foundation Establishment cultivators in North District Market and later killed Weapon Pavilion chief steward Zhu Weishen. 416 417
  • Casually shattered Hua Nianyun’s sword aura after his cultivation had risen dramatically. 446

Story Role / Major Arcs

Meeting Chiffon and Foundation Establishment

Chiffon sought Qiao out as the first confirmed cultivator he had encountered in the world. Their initially hostile negotiation became a mutually beneficial alliance when Qiao gained Foundation Establishment and guided Chiffon to Water Moon Cave Heaven. 185 186

Tomb Raiding and the Ancient God Black Market

After asking Chiffon to teach him spells, Qiao revealed his tomb-raiding career and led him to the Grave Blade Emperor’s tomb. The pair defeated its Heroic Spirit, divided its treasures, and attempted to sell their haul through Kanagawa’s Ancient God Black Market. 188 191 193

Qiao’s status as Shibuya’s Third Emperor was exposed when the market attempted to withhold payment. He defeated Shagou’s challenge and left the market with Chiffon after receiving their money. 194 195

Russian Arms Depot Infiltration

Qiao joined Chiffon and Kurosawa Ichiro in infiltrating a Russian military installation. He proposed disguising themselves as guards, lured soldiers with Fireball Technique, and led the group through the base—though he accidentally brought them into a barracks full of soldiers. 209 210 211

He later defeated Flame Phoenix Johnston and warned the others to flee before the Russian military sealed the border. 214

Thousand Revolutions Ancient Art

After Chiffon discovered his former master’s Taoist temple on Mount Hua, Qiao learned of the Thousand Revolutions Ancient Art. He chose to abandon his old cultivation method despite the certainty that his realm would regress, formally becoming Chiffon’s junior disciple. 333 334

His rebuilt cultivation advanced rapidly, eventually surpassing his original Foundation Establishment level and carrying him into Golden Core and Nascent Soul. 397 404 424 430

Extreme Origin Continent

Qiao accompanied Chiffon and his allies into the unfamiliar cultivation world beyond the Space-Time Rift. He fought Poison Cultivators, received vast quantities of spirit stones from Chiffon, and accelerated his cultivation through the Thousand Revolutions Ancient Art. 385 401 411

He assisted Chiffon during conflicts in North District Market, the Weapon Pavilion, the Ash Plains Continent, and the later confrontation with Hua Nianyun and the Rinyue Sect. 416 417 424 445 446

Trivia

  • Qiao originally called himself a tomb raider, but embraced Chiffon’s mockingly proposed title, “Tomb Raider Captain.” 188
  • He owns substantial wealth, including an ocean-view house and a hot spring resort, despite initially appearing impoverished. 188
  • He once went to a cultivation site without enough money to pay for transportation, forcing Chiffon to cover the fare. 186
  • His greed for loot is balanced by a willingness to trade uncertain treasures for reliable cultivation resources, such as Qi Cultivation Pills and Time Water. 269
