The Price of Supernatural Power
Everyone in the convoy was busy that morning.
They had to hurry and pack up their tents, eat breakfast, and get back on the road.
If they dawdled too long, they might fail to keep up when the convoy set off and get caught by the monsters. Then they would be in trouble.
In the camp, the survivors from the former Butcher Convoy who had joined Chen Fan's ranks just yesterday gathered together, whispering as they ate breakfast.
"Hey, did you hear? Our current group is actually an alliance of two convoys. We joined the Mortal Convoy yesterday, but there's also the Fairness Convoy."
"That's right. I asked around too. The Fairness Convoy is actually a little bigger and has more superhumans. Looking at it that way, the Fairness Convoy is stronger."
"That's not all. Did you know the Fairness Convoy doesn't take a cut from its survivors? We were feeling pretty pleased with ourselves yesterday because they only took ten percent, but the other convoy doesn't even take that."
"Ah, if only we'd joined the Fairness Convoy."
"Yeah, we made our decision too soon!"
"Do you think we could still go over to the Fairness Convoy now..."
"If you want to die, just say so. Didn't you see that convoy leader's methods that day? Good grief, all his supernatural powers were ghosts and monsters. You could tell at a glance he was ruthless."
"Ah, what a miserable life. We just escaped Butcher Chu's wolf den, and now we've walked right into Old Ghost Chen's tiger maw."
Just then, the door to Chen Fan's RV suddenly opened in the camp.
A streak of light shot out.
The survivors all looked up.
They discovered that it was one of the convoy's superhumans, flying while standing on a sword.
The sight shocked countless survivors.
They all knew superhumans were powerful, but they hadn't expected them to be able to fly on swords.
At that moment, Chen Fan stood on the Spirit Refining Sword, performing one difficult maneuver after another in the air.
One moment he swooped up and down, the next he rolled from side to side, then traced a dragon and a tiger.
At the same time, Chen Fan's clear voice rang out from the sky.
"With my keen blade drawn, I cleave the heavens wide; one sword's cold light shines over nineteen provinces."
"With no one to support my lofty ambitions, I tread through snow to reach the mountain peak myself!"
Below, Li Yuanyuan couldn't help covering her face with her hand, unable to bear the sight.
"Help, my apocalypse convoy leader is a Jiahao. What should I do? Waiting online, pretty urgent."
Zheng Alin grinned and sneered, "Those two lines probably scraped the bottom of his brain. You can tell he was brainwashed scrolling through Douyin before."
Chen Fan didn't know how his teammates were reacting.
He remained immersed in his art, unable to pull himself away.
He summoned the Nightmare Battle Cloud and stood on the dark cloud as it slowly descended to a low altitude.
He stayed at a height where people had to look up at him, but could still see him clearly.
The Spirit Refining Sword darted around him like a nimble fish.
The Ten Thousand Souls Banner fluttered boldly above his head, while tens of thousands of yin souls-actually fewer than two hundred-churned ceaselessly.
He held a water purification bottle in his hand.
A faint golden light surrounded him.
The many survivors had never seen anything like it.
They stood rooted to the spot, staring up at Chen Fan with their mouths agape.
Chen Fan used his newly awakened telekinesis to vibrate the air.
Without him even opening his mouth, a voice like the tolling of great bells rang out in the empty space around him.
"Now that you have seen an Immortal Master, why do you not bow?"
The survivors snapped out of their daze and fell to their knees in fear.
They were terrified that if they knelt too late, the Immortal Master would hold it against them and send down heavenly punishment.
"We pay our respects to the Immortal Master... xN"
For a time, the survivors' greetings rang out one after another.
In the convoy, Wang Bing stood beside Nie Shufeng and shook her head helplessly. "I still didn't calculate accurately enough. I never imagined the person we allied with this time would be like this."
To her surprise, Nie Shufeng's eyes were shining. "What are you talking about? Don't you think he looks cool?"
The corner of Wang Bing's mouth twitched. "Captain, your supernatural price is acting up again, isn't it?"
Only after making everyone kowtow and bow several times did Chen Fan excuse them from the formalities.
He then said a few words to reassure them and told them to hurry up and pack so they could continue their journey shortly.
Only then did he turn into a streak of light and land, deliberately keeping his distance from the survivors.
It made him seem mysterious while also keeping them from pestering him.
The survivors didn't dare start talking until Chen Fan had left.
"I never thought I, Zhang Si, would be lucky enough to see an immortal in this lifetime."
"Immortal, please bless me so I can have a big pork knuckle for my next meal."
The people from the former Butcher Convoy were even more excited.
"That's our convoy leader, isn't it?"
"I never expected our convoy leader to be an immortal!"
"Um... the Fairness Convoy doesn't take a cut. Are you still going?"
"Going, my ass. We get an immortal's protection for ten percent of our supplies. Is there a better deal than that?"
"Right. I'm not going anywhere. I'm welded to the Mortal Convoy for the rest of my life."
"Right, right! Haven't you heard that when one person attains the Dao, even their chickens and dogs ascend to heaven? If we stay with an immortal, maybe we'll attain the Dao and ascend someday too!"
At that moment, even some of the Fairness Convoy's survivors were tempted.
After landing, Chen Fan went over to the cargo van Sun Hong drove.
"Captain!"
Sun Hong ran over, his face full of fervor as he looked at Chen Fan.
Chen Fan's display of divine power just now had brought his admiration for Chen Fan to its peak.
Chen Fan nodded and paid him little attention.
In fact, Chen Fan was already feeling a little regretful. Why had he gotten carried away and flown into the sky to put on a show?
The more he thought about it, the more mortifying it seemed.
Damn it, the price of awakening my supernatural power couldn't be showing off, could it?
That had to be it!
He remembered clearly that he had always been a very low-key person before!
Though thoughts raced through his mind, Chen Fan kept his expression unchanged.
He told Sun Hong to open the van's cargo compartment, then sent his storage bag flying out to collect all the supplies inside.
After he got the RV, the van had been designated as his supply vehicle.
But now that he had a storage bag, he obviously no longer needed the van to carry supplies.
When Sun Hong saw Chen Fan use a divine ability to take all the supplies away, his face immediately turned pale.
If the van no longer carried supplies, didn't that mean he was useless?
"Captain, I..."
Chen Fan knew what he wanted to say and waved a hand. "Go find me a few people who are good at cutting fabric and making clothes. I'll give you some fabric later, and you can lead them in making me an outfit. I'll tell you the exact style in a bit.
"Don't worry. As long as you work for me with peace of mind, I won't treat you poorly."
Chen Fan's idea was to use the van as his mobile workshop from now on.
If he wanted to have someone make something or cook a meal in the future,
they could do it in the cargo compartment when they were somewhere unsuitable for camping.
And what he wanted Sun Hong to do now was carry out his immortal clothing plan...
Having been promised the moon by Chen Fan, Sun Hong was thrilled.
His chubby face flushed red as he shouted to Chen Fan, "Captain, I guarantee I'll get the job done!"
Chen Fan patted him on the shoulder and returned to the RV.
Just then, Li Yuanyuan came over carrying a bowl of food. When she saw Chen Fan, she smiled. "Oh, isn't this Brother Guanghan? Lord Immortal Master, do you still need to eat food from the mortal world?"
Chen Fan's expression darkened. "Who said you could come over and mooch a meal? You have your own vehicle and supplies now. Can't you cook for yourself? You can eat, but bring supplies to trade."
Li Yuanyuan's face fell, and she pursed her lips. "Tsk, stingy. You get worked up so easily."
By then, Yan Kuan and Rongrong had already made breakfast.
Today's breakfast was ham slices, fried eggs... and boiled noodles.
Chen Fan looked at the pot of dried noodles yet again, and the corner of his mouth twitched.
He looked at Yan Kuan and asked, "Old Yan, is your ancestral home in Jincheng?"
Yan Kuan was startled. "Captain, how did you know?"
Chen Fan sighed. "It's nothing. Let's eat."
As soon as they finished eating, the convoy set off.
Before long, Wang Bing's voice came over the walkie-talkie. "If we keep going, we'll run into another convoy on the way. Their attitude is... hostile!"
Qian Lei also said, "Captain, I sense there's a risk of a 'fine' up ahead."
