Background / History
Service under Lao Mo
Qian Lei served as the Fierce Fish Convoy’s guide before Chen Fan became its captain. Lao Mo kept him at the front, restricted his contact with other survivors, and supplied his necessities, fearing that someone might lure away such a valuable guide. Qian Lei rarely entered supply points to scavenge because his ability already provided his meals 7 16 29.
After taking command, Chen Fan retained Qian Lei as guide but lifted Lao Mo’s restrictions, allowing him to return to the group during stops. Qian Lei nevertheless preferred keeping to himself. Under their supply arrangement, he normally declined a share of scavenged goods; Chen Fan provided clothing, bedding, and other necessities when he needed them 7 29.
Escape from the Living Fog
Qian Lei warned Chen Fan that danger was approaching from behind, prompting the convoy to accelerate. When fog also appeared ahead, he reported that every direction felt dangerous. On Chen Fan’s orders, he returned to the bus rather than entering the fog alone 8 9.
During the giant-insect attack, his intuition identified the bus as his best chance of survival. He abandoned his scooter, boarded using his helmet, protective equipment, and transcendent physique, then sheltered beneath the driver’s seat. He subsequently helped repel insects with an iron rod while Chen Fan’s banner protected the defenders 9 10.
After the escape, Qian Lei briefly guided from the bus’s passenger seat, warning that his power worked best with a delivery vehicle. The group found him a replacement scooter, and he later located a roadside area safe enough for an overnight stop 11.
Cooperation with the Fairness Convoy
Qian Lei’s warning of another approaching threat helped prompt Chen Fan’s decision to travel alongside the Fairness Convoy. He led the combined procession, while Chen Fan began comparing his intuition with Nie Shufeng’s distant perception and Wang Bing’s divination 13 14 17.
Meeting the Fairness Convoy’s transcendents made Qian Lei worry that his limited fighting strength and shorter-range perception would leave him without a useful role. He responded by trying to scout more thoroughly, including locating the underground fuel tank at a gas station 18.
When the Butcher Convoy arrived there, Chen Fan ordered him to stall for ten minutes. Despite his fear, Qian Lei pretended to be a powerful lone survivor and claimed the station. The bluff briefly checked the opposing leader, but began collapsing when Xiao Feng advanced to attack. Chen Fan’s forces arrived and killed Xiao Feng before he reached Qian Lei 19.
Nanwushan Village and the Dead Fog
At Nanwushan Village, Qian Lei assessed the danger as manageable with caution and waited outside rather than scavenging. He later reported that Shen Li had suffered mental damage from a Shadow Weird and that Li Yuanyuan had not yet returned 29 30 31.
He continued scouting as the Dawn Alliance expanded, remaining ahead of the group even during its new members’ introductions. When the alliance chose to enter the Dead Fog, he questioned the route because it produced his strongest warning. Chen Fan explained that the fog was closer than the threats on the other roads, then recalled him rather than letting him scout into it alone 45 46.
Personality
Qian Lei is cautious and prefers avoiding unnecessary exposure. He generally stays out of dangerous scavenging sites, keeps his scooter ready for retreat, and is willing to abandon equipment when his intuition identifies a safer refuge 9 18 29.
He is modest about his usefulness, initially describing himself as someone who merely delivers food and knows which way to go. Chen Fan’s praise embarrasses him, while comparison with stronger or more perceptive transcendents makes him insecure. Rather than resigning himself to that insecurity, he tries to compensate through greater effort 7 11 18.
Although deferential to Chen Fan, Qian Lei can be candid and playful. He nearly reveals too much about his power during an introduction until Chen Fan signals him to stop, and later teases his captain for not understanding internet slang 17 31.
Abilities & Skills
Super Delivery Rider: Route Intuition
His supernatural intuition expresses danger and safety through delivery-work sensations 7.
- Danger warnings: Anxiety about an overdue delivery or an “overtime fine” signals danger; a safer route feels as though it would allow a faster delivery 7 8.
- Rest-site detection: Feeling able to “stop taking orders” indicates a place where the convoy can stop and rest 11.
- Positioning: His perception works better when he scouts at the front rather than remaining within the convoy 17.
- Limits: It does not identify whether a threat is human or supernatural, and switching off his ability to rest leaves him without active danger sensing 12.
- Range: Distant threats produce only vague sensations. A stronger warning may reflect proximity rather than a route’s overall danger, making his intuition less far-reaching than the alliance’s other scouting powers 46.
Super Delivery Rider: Vehicle Enhancement
He can operate motorized two-wheelers without consuming their fuel or electrical energy 7 11.
- Powers a replacement scooter even though its battery is dead 11.
- Enhances two-wheeler speed so that his vehicle is no slower than a car 14.
- Automatically manifests a delivery box on his replacement scooter’s rear luggage rack 11.
- Works best with a delivery vehicle; he warns that losing his scooter may impair his ability’s effectiveness 11.
Super Delivery Rider: Meal Generation
His delivery box produces a group-order meal three times daily, at mealtimes 7.
- Meals include meat, vegetables, and drinks, making him independent of ordinary food scavenging 29.
- Available dishes include braised pork over rice, boxed meals, and restaurant stir-fries offered through Pin Hao Fan 29.
Activation Cost: Smile Action
Qian Lei must keep smiling whenever he uses his supernatural ability 7.
- Prolonged use leaves his face feeling nearly stiff 7.
- His strained, fixed smile unsettles Sun Hong when he activates the power from the bus’s passenger seat 11.
Physical Strength and Combat
Although primarily a support-type transcendent, Qian Lei possesses greater physical strength than an ordinary survivor 9 10.
- Uses an iron rod to kill, cripple, or knock back giant insects 10.
- Fights under the protection of Chen Fan’s Ten Thousand Souls Banner during the fog escape; he does not possess a demonstrated dedicated offensive ability 7 10.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Original electric scooter — His scouting vehicle under Lao Mo and initially under Chen Fan; abandoned during the insect attack 8 9.
- Ghost Fire electric scooter — Replacement found among abandoned roadside vehicles; runs through his ability despite its depleted battery 11 19.
- Delivery box — Ability-linked container that appears on his scooter and generates meals 7 11.
- Walkie-talkie — Used first to contact Lao Mo and later to report conditions to Chen Fan 8.
- Helmet and protective equipment — Help him reach the bus during the giant-insect attack 9.
- Iron rod — Improvised weapon used against the insects 10.
Relationships
- Chen Fan — Captain and provider of necessary supplies. Qian Lei explicitly recognizes him as his only captain; Chen Fan values his guidance and protects him during major threats 9 11 13 19 29.
- Lao Mo — Former captain who supplied his necessities but tightly controlled his contact with the convoy to prevent others from recruiting him 7 29.
- Old Zhao — Qian Lei knew that Zhao’s Snake Hand could sense nearby danger and passed this information to Chen Fan, revealing an additional means of scouting 7.
- Nie Shufeng and Wang Bing — Allied perception specialists whose abilities complement his forward scouting. Their greater reach also makes him question his own usefulness 17 18 22.
