| Self-Healing Factor identified | 34 | Lu Chen detects the factor within his enhancer-damaged body and estimates its grade at roughly F-rank. This is a discovery, not a confirmed new awakening. |
| Enhancer augmentation and Steel Gene reinforcement | 35 36 | An injection increases his strength and defense, enlarges his muscles, and gives his skin a metallic sheen. Later combat explicitly describes his body as strengthened by Steel Gene; Tie Dun’s own rank for it is not stated. |
History
Defeat at the Warehouse
Tie Dun first appears leading roughly a dozen armed soldiers into a warehouse under cover of Old Lei’s rocket bombardment. Wearing heavy armor and carrying a steel shield, he declares the warehouse theirs and attacks Lu Chen with his giant hammer 31.
Lu Chen copies a soldier’s Impact Resistance talent and upgrades it into Vajra Indestructible Divine Art, allowing him to withstand Tie Dun’s full-force strike. He then crushes the alloy-steel hammer barehanded. Tie Dun resorts to Stone Skin and punches, but cannot injure him; he calls on Old Lei to use the armored vehicle’s cannon instead 31 32.
The battle leaves Tie Dun with a crushed chest and life-threatening wounds. Lu Chen treats him using a copied Trauma Repair talent, stopping the bleeding and restoring his breathing. The defeat also undermines Tie Dun’s faith in Steel Judgment’s supposedly absolute defense 33 39.
Becoming Lu Chen’s Test Subject
While examining Tie Dun, Lu Chen discovers that an enhancer has damaged his flesh and left behind a weak Self-Healing Factor. Replicating that factor gives Lu Chen, rather than Tie Dun, the SSS-rank Immortal Body talent 34.
After demonstrating his regeneration, Lu Chen invites Tie Dun to become an experimental subject, promising power and immortality. Tie Dun struggles between his military principles and the opportunity to survive, but eventually agrees. He and Xiaoyu follow Lu Chen to an abandoned underground shooting range 34.
Godslaying Legion Training
At the range, Tie Dun puts on a heavy bulletproof vest and injects an enhancer supplied by Lu Chen. Despite severe pain, he completes the strength test by smashing a concrete wall with his hammer. Lu Chen copies the enhancer’s reaction mechanism, obtaining SSS-rank Steel Gene for himself, and orders Tie Dun and Old Lei to intensify their training as the first batch of his planned Godslaying Legion 35.
On their subsequent expedition, Lu Chen sends Tie Dun to rescue and assess a young awakened survivor. Tie Dun kills approximately a dozen mutant dogs within minutes, then studies the youth’s reactions. The survivor, Chen Hao, subsequently follows the group and joins the Legion 36.
Appearance
Tie Dun is a burly, heavily muscled man with a weathered face and a deep, rough voice 31 36 39.
- Combat attire: Heavy armor and a large steel shield; later described wearing modified armor 31 37.
- Military bearing: Stands straight and keeps his worn uniform meticulously clean 35.
- Talent effects: Stone Skin produces rough, rocklike patterns; enhancer augmentation makes his muscles swell and his skin develop a metallic sheen 32 35.
Personality
Tie Dun is taciturn, disciplined, and committed to loyalty and honor. His belief that “the fortress never breaks” reflects his confidence in defensive strength. Lu Chen’s ability to ignore his attacks turns that confidence first into fury, then fear and doubt 31 34 37 39.
He remains willing to endure hardship after his defeat. Although initially uneasy about Lu Chen’s experiments, he injects the enhancer without hesitation once he accepts the training arrangement and continues despite intense pain 34 35.
Abilities & Skills
Strength and Frontline Combat
Tie Dun combines overwhelming physical force with a direct, close-range fighting style 31 36.
- Breaks through warehouse entrances and shatters a concrete wall with his hammer 31 35.
- Kills mutant dogs with punches and neck-breaking grips 36.
- Cannot penetrate Lu Chen’s upgraded defenses, even with full-force hammer strikes or repeated punches 31 32 38.
Stone Skin
An F-rank defensive talent that forms a crude, stone-like layer over his body 32 38.
- Provides a modest increase in defense.
- Does not prevent his hand from being injured when he strikes Lu Chen’s hardened body 38.
- Serves as a replication source for Lu Chen’s SSS-rank Immortal Body; Tie Dun is not shown receiving that upgrade 32 38.
Enhancer Augmentation and Steel Gene
Enhancers temporarily improve strength and defense at the cost of severe pain and potentially irreversible bodily damage 34 35.
- Produces visible muscular growth and a metallic skin sheen during testing 35.
- Steel Gene reinforcement supports his later fight against the mutant dogs 36.
- The explicitly stated SSS-rank Steel Gene belongs to Lu Chen’s replicated version 35.
Self-Healing Factor
A weak regenerative factor detected within Tie Dun’s enhancer-affected flesh 34.
- Estimated by Lu Chen to be around F-rank.
- Its discovery does not establish that Tie Dun can regenerate severe injuries unaided; Lu Chen treats his critical wounds with Trauma Repair 33 34.
Equipment
- Alloy-steel warhammer: Weighs several hundred jin and is reputed to withstand a rocket. Lu Chen destroys it barehanded; Tie Dun is later shown wielding a giant hammer during training 31 35.
- Steel shield: Carried during the warehouse assault 31 37.
- Heavy armor: Includes modified armor in the later warehouse depiction 37.
- Heavy bulletproof vest: Military-base equipment weighing dozens of kilograms, worn during Lu Chen’s testing 35.
- Enhancer injections: Used for experimental strength and defense augmentation 34 35.
Relationships
- Xiaoyu — Younger sister and medic. She desperately attempts to treat his injuries and later accompanies him into Lu Chen’s experimental training program 32 33 34.
- Lu Chen — Initially his enemy, then his healer, experimental supervisor, and leader. Tie Dun accepts his offer despite fearing his methods 31 33 34 35.
- Old Lei — Fellow Steel Judgment combatant who supplies artillery support; later trains alongside him under Lu Chen 32 35.
- Chen Hao — Young awakened survivor whom Tie Dun saves from mutant dogs and assesses on Lu Chen’s orders 36.
