Background / History

Huntian was the third-ranked member of the seven Great Sages who had sworn brotherhood with Brother Monkey. He and several sworn brothers once dominated a region, and his Golden-Winged Great Peng lineage possessed a noble bloodline but little protection from internal competition and killing 119 135 154.

At the end of the Primordial Era, the Human Emperor attacked him across time. Huntian later explains that the emperor stood in High Antiquity and fired an arrow upstream through the Long River of Time, killing his true body in the primordial past. Huntian sought aid from his old associates, but none answered 298 313.

His clan remembered him as an ancestor who had crossed time to fight the Human Emperor for their sake and died with his soul extinguished. In reality, the Human Emperor preserved a remnant of his Primordial Spirit inside a Peng feather 119 297.

When Yu Tunzhou awakened him, Huntian initially mistook him for a Kunpeng descendant. The feather contained a contract between equals requiring Huntian to do his utmost to guide Yu’s cultivation. Huntian accepted its terms, privately declaring that he would have chosen destruction over a master-servant contract 119.

Appearance

Huntian’s surviving spirit takes the form of a small Golden-Winged Great Peng, at one point described as smaller than a chicken 127 154.

  • Golden feathers: Their sheen intensifies as he recovers, eventually resembling molten gold 161.
  • Golden eyes: During the Twin Rivers battle, he watches Helian Tu with an unblinking, predatory gaze 147.
  • Habitual resting posture: Tucks his head beneath a wing and curls into a fluffy golden ball 127.
  • Manifested battle form: Borrows Yu Tunzhou’s Inner Form to appear as a Golden-Winged Great Peng capable of swallowing the Blood God Son’s scattered spirit 147.

Personality

Huntian is proud of his bloodline, former standing, and independence. He initially mocks Yu Tunzhou’s weakness and dismisses unfamiliar ancient claimants as insignificant. He also refuses the suggestion of possessing Golden Firmament’s body, considering the seizure of a junior’s vessel beneath him 119 145 297.

His confidence has clear limits. He becomes wary around the foremost ancient powers and retreats when stronger intervention threatens to entangle Yu Tunzhou. The Human Emperor’s presence produces an especially immediate reaction: after offering bold assistance, Huntian hides his head beneath his wings when he senses the emperor awakening nearby 139 147 221.

His defeat changed his attitude toward relationships. Once contemptuous of a senior who entered the Buddhist School, he comes to regard powerful affiliations and favorable karmic bonds as sensible safeguards. His help to Yu Tunzhou is therefore both genuine cooperation and an investment in the Golden-Winged Great Peng lineage’s future 147 293.

He values freedom over borrowed strength. He warns that merging with a world’s Dao leaves a cultivator dependent on that world’s survival, and regards the loss of self through Dao Bewilderment as rendering even immense power meaningless 166 168.

Abilities & Skills

Golden-Winged Great Peng Divine Abilities

  • Supreme speed: His lineage’s innate movement ability is described as possessing the greatest speed in the world, comparable in standing to Kong Xuan’s Five-Colored Divine Light 137.
  • Devouring heaven and earth: Swallows spiritual remnants and uses the same lineage ability to pull apart Helian Tu’s conflicting body and Primordial Spirit 145 147.
  • Wind and lightning: Identifies both as signature arts of his bloodline and teaches Yu Tunzhou a lightning-drawing method 145.
  • Limits: In his weakened state, major intervention can require borrowing Yu’s Inner Form or burning his own Primordial Spirit. His manifestation cannot sustain a prolonged fight 137 147.

Eight-Nine Mysterious Art

  • Teaches Yu Tunzhou a simplified, peerless-level version, received from a sworn younger brother who created it after taking a different cultivation path 121.
  • Has cultivated this version himself and understands its foundation-building and physical-sainthood stages 252.
  • Explains that the first three levels establish the foundation, while the latter three produce qualitative transformations toward physical sainthood 252.
  • Guides Yu through its tribulations, eventually recognizing that Yu’s unusually personalized trials are Dao Calamities, not ordinary heavenly tribulations 127 133 140 201 252.
  • Initially underestimates how severely the present Heavenly Dao suppresses ancient methods and explicitly acknowledges that oversight 133.

Cultivation Guidance

  • Identifies Yu Tunzhou’s Dao Embryo as the Dao Body Immortal Platform after examining his Martial Dao foundation 121.
  • Recognizes the Taiji and Wuji presences in Yu’s Dao Embryo and advises him to study both before choosing a path 132.
  • Identifies the Eight Sceneries Palace’s supreme Dao realms as suitable references for building an Inner Heaven and Earth 140.
  • Helps anchor Yu’s identity during Dao Bewilderment by repeatedly reminding him who he is 166.
  • Explains ancient cultivation realms, the risks of external divine intent, and the relationship between fortune, karma, and cultivation 168 230 238.

Formations and Artifact Appraisal

  • Deduces the Blood God ritual’s remaining formation cores from a partial layout and hides a lightning-drawing method in its auxiliary formation 145.
  • Awakens the Vajra Bracelet’s artifact spirit inside the Eight Sceneries Palace 138.
  • Recognizes an Ascension Grand Formation containing a Spirit-Bewildering Formation and examines its innate patterns 254.
  • Supplies instructions for opening a secret route from the Imperial Horse Bureau to the Peach of Immortality Garden 272.
  • Identifies treasures including the Luo River Diagram, Purity of the Six Roots Bamboo, and a True Immortal-level fiery fan 218 293.

Primordial Spirit Techniques

  • Spiritual examination: Merges with Yu’s Primordial Spirit to inspect his foundation, though the process nearly assimilates him and costs him some power 121.
  • Soul searching: Subdues Xuanyangzi’s Primordial Spirit and extracts information about the Xie Household and Supreme Origin Sect 265.
  • Restraints: Places Primordial Spirit shackles on Niu Kui, Qingqiu, and Golden Firmament 298.
  • Avatar creation: Proposes devouring Xue Wuya’s damaged spirit to leave an avatar watching a possible route into primordial times 315.

Bloodline Authority

  • Golden Firmament recognizes Huntian’s identity through the ancestral presence engraved in his bloodline 297.
  • A single beat of Huntian’s wings makes Golden Firmament’s wings go limp and suppresses his aggression 297.
  • His surviving authority allows him to command Demon Gods despite lacking his former body and cultivation 297 298.

Items and Resources

  • Bloodstained Peng feather — The vessel in which the Human Emperor sealed Huntian’s spirit; also contains his equal contract with Yu Tunzhou 119.
  • Refined true dragon spirit essence — Processed by the Immortal Cauldron and collected by Yu Tunzhou to support Huntian’s bodily recovery 230.
  • Former Inner Heaven and Earth — Huntian can scarcely sense its location and suspects the Human Emperor’s attack shattered his body too thoroughly to reconnect with it 290.

Relationships

  • Yu Tunzhou — Contracted partner, student, and host. Huntian supplies ancient knowledge and intervention; Yu provides protection and recovery resources. Huntian increasingly addresses him as “Fellow Daoist Xuandu” 119 121 147 230.
  • Human Emperor — Defeated Huntian, destroyed his true body, and preserved his remnant for the present era. Huntian fears him but suspects that his survival forms part of a larger arrangement 221 313 334.
  • Golden Firmament — A Golden-Winged Great Peng descendant who recognizes him as an ancestor and obeys his orders 297 298.
  • Bull Devil King / Great Sage Who Pacifies Heaven — Sworn elder brother. Huntian resents his failure to help against the Human Emperor and treats his descendant Niu Kui coldly 172 298.
  • Brother Monkey and the seven Great Sages — Former sworn brotherhood; Huntian ranked third among them 119.
  • Emperor Wa — A supreme authority whose protection Huntian expects Demon Race juniors to be able to invoke. He later suspects factions are testing whether she can still intervene 297 300.
  • Youyin Rogue Person — Subordinate associate who prepares a ceremonial road of Yao Qi for Huntian’s appearance before Golden Firmament 282 297.
  • Blood Spirit Venerable Mother — Recognizes Huntian as a Demon Race Dao Lord. Their exchange is hostile, particularly over the Netherworld Blood Sea’s Innate Spirit Treasures 333.

Guiding Yu Tunzhou

  • Reassesses his initially dismissive opinion of the Martial Dao after learning its destructive capabilities and examining Yu’s innate apertures 121.
  • Helps Yu survive the dangers surrounding the Eight-Nine Mysterious Art and the Eight Sceneries Palace, including awakening the Vajra Bracelet 133 138 140.
  • Begins suspecting extraordinary origins for Yu after encountering his Taiji foundation, Vajra Bracelet, and connection to Xuandu Cave 137.

Twin Rivers Commandery

  • Devises the strategy of exposing ancient possessing spirits to the present Heavenly Dao’s punitive lightning 145.
  • Turns the Blood God ritual into a trap, then devours the Blood God Son’s divided-spirit remnants to restore himself 145 147.
  • Withdraws after recognizing the danger posed by Kou Ziling and other intervening experts rather than prolonging the confrontation 147.

Eternal Dragon Gate

  • Helps Yu recover his identity after he becomes a gigantic fish and falls into Dao Bewilderment 166.
  • Warns him against dependence on Kunpeng divine intent and agrees to watch the sea appearing within his Primordial Spirit Heaven and Earth 168 169.

Ancient Memories and the Heavenly Court

  • Recognizes memory anchors that reactivate specific recollections when he encounters similar circumstances 255.
  • Admits that his ancient knowledge is incomplete: he never saw Haotian’s unobscured face and cannot explain why he remembers no primordial figure named Xuandu 257 312.

Return to Demon Race Politics

  • Initially hopes to become the Central Plains’ first Demon Immortal after heaven and earth’s transformation, using the resulting Heavenly Dao gift to regain Primordial Unity 334.
  • Changes course when the Human Emperor’s Immortal Heaven appears, hoping it preserves even a drop of blood or scrap of his original body 334.
  • Enters with Yu Tunzhou’s group and senses the origin of his bloodline while receiving a mysterious message 337.
