Background and History

Firestone Worker and Discovery of Great Scarlet Heaven

Fang Yu began cultivating the Crimson Firmament Profound Craft Canon at six. At eighteen, after breaking through the “mystery in the womb,” the Yuanchen Pearl appeared in his sea of consciousness, though it initially remained dormant 2 13.

As a firestone worker of the Metal Stone Immortal Sect, he forged Metal Fire Stones to support himself and repay a thirty-year cave-abode loan. The awakening of the pearl’s Void Penetration ability allowed him to travel from the Black-Yellow Realm to Great Scarlet Heaven 2 4 9.

There, he investigated Medicine King Ridge and nearby Nine Fragrances Town before concluding that the ridge was an unclaimed spiritual land. He established Cloud Mist Cave on a peak with more than three times the Spiritual Qi density of Flaming Mountain, returning to his sect periodically to meet his obligations 3 4.

Trading Between Worlds and Establishing a Dao Foundation

Fang Yu turned differences between the two worlds into a source of cultivation funds. He sold crafted swords, exchanged Metal Fire Stones for goods, and resold those goods under changing appearances and cultivation signatures 18.

His breakthrough to Dao Foundation came through a blood sacrifice involving Tie Chanyi. Moon-Embracing Sword Immortal then took his Earth Grade Flowing Flame True Fire Sword in exchange for Sword Intent and assigned him to the Heavenly Craft Hall under Wu Tong 23.

On the Qi Refining side, his poor Spirit Root made progress increasingly dependent on expensive pills. He financed them by selling specialized mining pickaxes. When the Three Heroes of the Wang Household tracked him with a Scent-Detecting Insect and demanded his refining inheritance, he killed them using his Dao Foundation power, then withdrew from that market rather than risk further escalation 28 29.

Great Peace Village and True Spirits

Fang Yu compiled simplified cultivation teachings and distributed the Essential Techniques of Peace among mortals with suitable destinies. This developed into Great Peace Village, whose followers provided fortune and the Fire of Ten Thousand Households for his cultivation 39 40 48 59.

He discovered that deceased followers’ true spirits could enter his sea of consciousness, bringing their memories and skills. Although most were ordinary working people rather than fighters, their experience improved his understanding of the world and strengthened his calculations 49 50.

His growing involvement with mortal fortune attracted powerful cultivators. Feng Yi nearly killed him by compelling him to cut his own throat. Fang Yu later chose the Taiyi Profound Gate Orthodox Path over the Demonic Path and worked toward relocating followers’ true spirits to Great Scarlet Heaven, where he considered mortal life less expendable 58 60 62 64.

Mosquito Immortal City and Core Formation

Mining supplied Fang Yu with the wealth to pursue Foundation Establishment. After obtaining pill formulas and refining inheritances, he chose to make his own pills rather than compete openly for auctioned ones selling for over a million Spirit Stones each 41 45 47.

He refined three flawless Foundation Establishment Pills and successfully established his foundation in Mosquito Immortal City. His artifact commissions and work on the Lesser Thousand-Needle Nether River Formation subsequently expanded his resources, contacts, and technical knowledge 50 51 57 65.

After gathering the ingredients for Golden Core Formation Pills, he refined three and proceeded toward core formation. His lightning-tribulation experiences also exposed flaws and hidden backdoors in his inherited methods and deepened his understanding of Molten Edge Flow 94 96 101.

Ascension Immortal Sect and Purple Mansion

Fang Yu entered the Ascension Immortal Sect as Jiang Yao, taking the identity of a sixteen-year-old herb gatherer who had died in a fall. He buried the boy before assuming his place and concealed his existing cultivation 108.

While maintaining this identity, he traveled west in the Black-Yellow Realm to seek his Purple Mansion opportunity. The search led him into Buddhist territory and to the Flame-Transformed Sweet Dew Sutra. After advancing, he learned that Medicine Tree Lapis Lazuli Bodhisattva had arranged for Wondrous Goodness to give him the necessary teaching, raising concerns about how thoroughly his future had been anticipated 112 115 124.

Within the Ascension Immortal Sect, he cultivated the Great Daoyan Five Elements Chaos True Explanation, developed his public reputation as an alchemist, and joined Five Elements Peak through True Person Jade Liquid’s recommendation. He also secretly revisited the Azure Lotus Secret Realm to gather medicines and study its formations 113 130 133 135 136 138.

He later accompanied Fairy Ruyan, Zhang Zhonghu, and Yang Zhan on more than three years of raids. Fang Yu chiefly broke formations and accumulated resources, but persuaded the group to abandon Moonshadow Mountain after sensing an ambush 148 150.

Divine Weapons and the Question of His Identity

Fang Yu eventually discovered that the Goldstone Sect’s sacrifices in the Sword Tomb Blessed Land were connected to his fate. Reclaiming his original Earth Grade sword was necessary to advance Molten Edge Flow; he recovered it, killed Moon-Embracing Sword Immortal, and gained his second Divine Ability 162 163.

His origins remained uncertain. He questioned whether his memories of modern life proved he was a transmigrator, whether he was a reincarnated True Lord, and what the Yuanchen Pearl truly was. Rather than resolve this immediately, he accepted that he was Fang Yu in the present 162 167.

Bai Chunyang later revealed that ascension carried only a true spirit into another world. At the Ascension Platform, Fang Yu uncovered coordinates to the Demon Martial Realm and suggested that he himself might be the Black-Yellow Heavenly Venerable. This remains a suspicion in the supplied account, not an established identity 177 178.

Martial Life and the Border Wilderness

Fang Yu subsequently took over Xu Fang’s body in the Demon Martial Realm. Unable to cast his former Law Techniques, he rebuilt his strength through martial arts, Demon Beast meat, and the Yuanchen Pearl’s conversion of Primordial Qi into Qi and Blood 182 183.

As Xu Fang, he became involved with the Embroidered Robe Bureau and accepted the Sun Household’s protection in exchange for information. He eventually abandoned this identity and left Bei’an Prefecture, leaving Jiang Yue with enough silver to support herself if she did not squander it 201 211 216.

In Long City, Miaoyu secured him a genuine household registration under the name Fang Yu and a courtyard house on Peace Street. He resumed secluded training, then adopted Tang Meng’s female identity to travel with an army toward the Border Wilderness, where he was recognized as a young martial Master 217 218 229 230 233.

Appearance

  • Original appearance: Distinct from the bodies and disguises he adopts; he explicitly restores his Black-Yellow Realm appearance after abandoning Xu Fang’s identity 217.
  • Martial physique: Leopard Fist training initially makes Xu Fang’s body heavily muscular and broader. During his Seventh-Grade breakthrough, it briefly expands beyond two meters before returning to a leaner frame 192 206.
  • Tang Meng disguise: An initially ordinary female face becomes conspicuously attractive when paired with Savage Wilderness clothing, drawing more attention than he intended 231 232.

Personality

Fang Yu places survival above prestige, adventure, or proving his strength. He avoids unexplained opportunities, conceals his wealth, and prefers overwhelming weaker opponents to challenging stronger ones. Even after acquiring resurrection-related powers, he intends to prevent danger rather than rely on returning from death 19 47 53 125.

He is patient, methodical, and comfortable with prolonged seclusion. His disguises involve more than changing faces: he constructs believable identities, maintains public records of his movements, and cultivates useful relationships before he needs them 108 113 132 137.

His moral limits coexist with considerable ruthlessness. He kills enemies, participates in destructive raids, and robs wealthy establishments to fund cultivation. However, he gives Embroidered Tiger an unrestricted chance at rebirth and refuses to consume the Three Flowers Pill made from a cultivator, fearing that accepting such benefits would gradually erase his remaining boundaries 103 149 175 214.

He also values ordinary pleasures, including tea, entertainment, and intimacy. White Bone Contemplation’s suppression of sexual desire troubles him because he does not want cultivation to strip away his humanity 56 72 132 218.

Abilities and Skills

Yuanchen Pearl

A pearl residing in Fang Yu’s sea of consciousness that supports travel, power conversion, concealment, and the handling of fortune and true spirits 2 13 23 50.

  • Void Penetration: Travels between worlds and smaller secret realms. Initially, only Great Scarlet Heaven is accessible from the Black-Yellow Realm; Azure Lotus Secret Realm later joins its star map 2 133.
  • Travel restriction: He normally returns to the location from which he crossed over, allowing an observer to guard the return point 58.
  • Return to Origin: Converts powers from different systems into Primordial Qi, then into usable power such as Flowing Flame True Fire or martial Qi and Blood 13 182.
  • Purification: Removes foreign influences and karmic connections from power, fortune, and materials 13 49 164.
  • Treasure nourishment: Repairs and replenishes damaged artifacts and talisman treasures, including the Sun Gold Wheel and Phoenix Cry Talisman 22 25.
  • Cultivation concealment: Alters the cultivation and Law Power signature he presents to others; even a Golden Core cultivator would struggle to see through his concealed Foundation Establishment cultivation 16 52.

Fate Weaving and Divination

The pearl’s Fate Weaving ability can “deduce heavenly secrets, conceal heavenly secrets, weave heavenly secrets.” Fang Yu supplements it with the Spiritual Pivot Resonance Chapter and, later, Purple Mansion divination 23 50 125.

  • Calculates whether journeys, mining expeditions, cities, and planned actions are fortunate or dangerous 40 44 47 50.
  • Reads names, fortunes, and aspects of others’ destinies, subject to concealment and interference 32 33 71.
  • Conceals reincarnated true spirits from divination; for Embroidered Tiger, he provides three days during which even he cannot calculate its new whereabouts 103.
  • Does not automatically detect ordinary tracking: Feng Yi follows true spirits without triggering its divination warning 58.
  • Continuous concealment can suppress Fang Yu’s own natural awareness of fate-bound connections 162.
  • In the Demon Martial Realm, he initially loses the ability to calculate fortune and misfortune 194.

Molten Edge Flow and External Alchemy

Fang Yu’s original Dao Foundation specializes in refining and reshaping materials. His External Alchemy Dao Attainment grows through pill refining, artifact forging, talisman work, and formation construction 39 105.

  • Melts and molds metal and stone; creates swords, mining pickaxes, array foundations, and pill furnaces 18 28 48 65.
  • Supports alchemy through precise heat control and material knowledge 45.
  • Its higher teaching describes refining metals, medicines, flesh, souls, and spectral soldiers into “external pills” 105.
  • Advances into Fang Yu’s second Divine Ability after he retrieves his fate-bound sword and sacrifices Moon-Embracing Sword Immortal 162 163.
  • Contributes to his defeat of Yunyang, a Nascent Soul Great Late Stage expert, while Fang Yu himself is at Late Golden Core 175.

Phoenix Sets the Plains Ablaze

A cultivation path aligned with his Wings Fire fate, developed through the Starfire Heart-Burning Instruction and the Fire of Ten Thousand Households 48 49.

  • Improves his fortune and Spirit Root as its cultivation develops 48 65.
  • Stirs existing desires in other people’s hearts, potentially driving irrational behavior; it requires desires already present to manipulate 60.
  • At Purple Mansion, provides a chance to return from death 125.
  • Revives Yang Zhan in the Heart-Questioning Cave 156.

True Spirits and Reincarnation

Fang Yu receives deceased followers’ true spirits through their connections to his stored fortune. He initially gathers 1,021 and discovers that their lifelong experience can become his own 49 50.

  • Acquires practical skills such as farming, fishing, livestock raising, clothing production, and smithing 50.
  • Uses accumulated life experience to improve resonance and calculations rather than merely combat strength 50.
  • Arranges rebirths in selected households and records their locations as anchors for future calculations 112.
  • Sometimes plans for reincarnated followers to obtain teachings or undertake work he cannot safely perform himself 64.
  • Cannot guarantee wise conduct: one follower exposes himself as a Great Peace adherent at four years old and is killed while fleeing 72.

Formations, Talismans, and Alchemy

  • Formations: Improves Array Master Zong’s foundations, studies third- and fourth-tier restrictions in Azure Lotus Secret Realm, and memorizes a fifth-tier array inheritance in the Heart-Questioning Cave 65 136 146 156.
  • Combat applications: Breaks enemy formations during raids and constructs a single-use third-tier formation capable of Golden Core-level power 72 148 150.
  • Alchemy: Refines flawless Foundation Establishment Pills and Golden Core Formation Pills; later obtains fourth-tier teachings and Five Elements Peak’s fifth-tier pill inheritance 50 94 146 175.
  • Talismans: Incorporates a third-tier inheritance into External Alchemy and later obtains a fifth-tier inheritance containing five Spirit Transformation talismans 107 175.

Disguise and Identity Construction

His Disguise Technique changes both appearance and physique. The Yuanchen Pearl supplies the cultivation and power-signature concealment the technique lacks on its own 16.

Identity Use
Master He Mining-pickaxe merchant targeted by the Three Heroes of the Wang Household 28.
Lü Bu Cultivator and artifact refiner known in Mosquito Immortal City; later approaches Chen Cheng under this identity 56 57 82.
Jiang Yao Sixteen-year-old herb-gatherer identity used to enter the Ascension Immortal Sect 108.
Xu Fang Identity attached to the body he occupies in the Demon Martial Realm; later abandoned 182 217.
Chun Shisanniang Identity publicly associated with a supposed military expert of roughly Fourth or Fifth Grade 215.
Tang Hulu Disguise used when visiting Long City’s temple fair and ghost market 227.
Tang Meng Female identity used to enter the Border Wilderness; intended to obscure that his true identity is male 229 232.
  • Known weakness: Changing appearance, clothing, cultivation, and Law Power does not conceal body odor; a Scent-Detecting Insect tracks him despite these precautions 28.

Martial Arts and Perception

After entering Xu Fang’s body, Fang Yu retains limited Divine Sense and Divine Thought but initially cannot cast Law Techniques 183.

  • Uses inward perception to measure bodily changes and create self-assessed martial progress panels; the displayed percentages are his calculations, not an independent leveling system 183 208.
  • Deep-scans martial artists to model their bodies and Qi-and-Blood circulation, providing references for learning their methods 197.
  • Reduces his perception’s output because Masters may detect an intrusive scan 197.
  • Uses the Mysterious Armor Prison-Suppressing Art as his core method and the Mysterious Nether Divine Palm as a supplement 210.
  • Studies the Sun and Moon Divine Art for finer limb control, speed, and short-range maneuvering 220.
  • Uses Primordial Qi to support recovery and training across methods with different bodily demands 210 224.
