Background / History
The Yuanchen Pearl appeared when Fang Yu broke through the “mystery in the womb” at eighteen. It remained dormant until revealing a star map and a route to Great Scarlet Heaven. This gave him access to a second cultivation world while retaining a way back to the Black-Yellow Realm 2.
Its origin remained uncertain even after decades of use. Fang Yu questioned whether he was an outsider from Blue Star, a reincarnated True Lord, or something else, and whether anyone understood the Pearl’s true nature. Bai Chunyang later suggested that he might be connected to “Scarlet,” but presented this as speculation rather than established fact 167 177.
At the ascension platform, the Pearl absorbed Bai Chunyang’s true spirit power and the power of a Spirit Vein above the fifth tier. Fang Yu’s body cracked and dispersed, and he entered the Pearl, realizing that it was his true body. It then carried him through Heaven Beyond Heaven to the Demon Martial Realm, exhausting its accumulated Primordial Qi upon arrival 179.
Appearance
- Pearl: Initially seen revolving within Fang Yu’s sea of consciousness and radiating a milky-white halo 2.
- Star map: Numerous dim lights of different sizes surrounded two bright, full-moon-like points 2.
- Ascension manifestation: Left Fang Yu’s sea of consciousness, enlarged in midair, and released boundless golden light before departing Great Scarlet Heaven 179.
Abilities & Skills
Void Penetration
Void Penetration allows travel through worlds and grotto-heavens of different sizes, using destinations represented on the Pearl’s star map 133.
- Established routes: Connects the Black-Yellow Realm, Great Scarlet Heaven, the Azure Lotus Secret Realm, and eventually the Demon Martial Realm 133 178.
- Secret-realm registration: The Azure Lotus Secret Realm was registered only after Fang Yu entered personally. Watching it remotely through Zhang Zhonghu had not activated the ability 133.
- Independent return visits: Fang Yu later entered and left the Azure Lotus Secret Realm without using its ordinary entrance 135 136.
- Personal Purple Mansion access: Can reach Fang Yu’s own Purple Mansion while it is anchored in the Great Void 160.
- Mental activation: Fang Yu could still communicate with the Pearl and prepare to cross worlds while Feng Yi prevented his body from moving 58.
- Coordinates required: Travel between worlds needs coordinates and guidance; the ascension platform supplied these for the Demon Martial Realm 178.
- Energy cost: The journey to the Demon Martial Realm rapidly consumed power gathered from a True Lord’s true spirit and a Spirit Vein above the fifth tier 179.
Fang Yu suspected that his earlier “secret land” failed to register because it was too small and remained part of the present world. This was his interpretation, not a confirmed rule 133.
Return to Origin
Return to Origin normalizes powers from different systems into Primordial Qi, which can then be converted into another usable power 12 13.
- Cross-system conversion: Transforms Everlasting Spring Law Power into Primordial Qi and then into Flowing Flame True Fire 13.
- Purification: Removes discordant elements from Law Power. After rebuilding his purified Flowing Flame True Fire, Fang Yu judged one strand worth three of his former strands 13.
- Cultivation flexibility: Allows Fang Yu to dissolve Law Power and a Dao Foundation, making it possible to change cultivation methods without the normally required Heavenly One Life Water 24.
- Specialized power access: Converts Qi Refining power into the power of the Molten Edge Flow Dao Foundation for alchemy and artifact refinement 76 107.
- Imprint removal: Purifies ownership imprints on Gu insects taken from Jin Guizi 67.
- Pill-toxin protection: Purification prevents pill toxins from becoming a concern, but cannot remove resistance caused by repeatedly taking the same medicine 77.
- Metal-nature purification: Extracts and purifies power from the Ghost Metal nature 164.
Purification reduces the quantity of usable power. Seven strands of Flowing Flame True Fire initially became four purified strands, while more than half of Fang Yu’s Qi Refining Law Power was lost during a later conversion into Primordial Qi 13 51.
Cultivation Concealment
By storing power as Primordial Qi, the Pearl can hide one cultivation system while Fang Yu displays another 13 15.
- System switching: Fang Yu concealed his Qi Ingestion Seventh Layer power and presented himself as a Qi Refining First Layer Great Perfection cultivator 15.
- Lowered apparent realm: Could disguise Foundation Establishment Late Stage as Early Stage; even a Golden Core cultivator would have difficulty seeing through it 52.
- Long-term false identity: Supported Fang Yu’s entry into the Ascension Immortal Sect as the young herb gatherer Jiang Yao 108.
- Controlled apparent progress: Hid his Golden Core-level foundations while he appeared to be a newly advanced Qi Refining First Layer disciple 111.
Fate Weaving
Fate Weaving can “deduce heavenly secrets, conceal heavenly secrets, weave heavenly secrets” 23.
- Divination: Helps identify danger, favorable directions, names, and likely outcomes. Recorded results include “Fortune lies to the southeast” and a judgment of “Great fortune” for Mosquito Immortal City 32 33 56.
- Counter-divination: Reacts when powerful cultivators attempt to investigate Fang Yu, consuming Primordial Qi to conceal him 30 59.
- Surveillance isolation: Separates Moon-Embracing’s sword intent from the rest of his sea of consciousness and controls what it perceives about his location and cultivation 25.
- False information: Supplied Moon-Embracing with a fabricated account of Feng Yi demanding Fang Yu’s death for stepping out with his left foot first 59.
- Follower-fate access: Retained fortune fragments theoretically allow Fang Yu to calculate followers’ circumstances and influence their fates 46.
- Hidden connections: Conceals Fang Yu’s connection to reincarnated true spirits such as Zhao Heming, provided he does not interfere too heavily 70.
Fortune Separation and True Spirits
The Pearl can separate fortune and karmic ties from the power of the Fire of Ten Thousand Households, retaining the fortune fragments in an isolated area of Fang Yu’s sea of consciousness 46.
- Preservation after death: Fang Yu concluded that purified fortune enabled affected followers to form true spirits rather than disperse 50.
- Memory and skill inheritance: Receiving a deceased stablehand’s true spirit gave Fang Yu the man’s memories and horse-raising experience 49.
- Mass collection: Helped him sense and gather more than a hundred thousand true spirits from across Anping Prefecture 58.
- Reincarnation support: Fang Yu sent collected spirits to reincarnate, with some abilities from their previous lives retained as innate talents 58 70.
- Remote monitoring: In combination with Phoenix Sets the Plains Ablaze, allowed Fang Yu to follow Zhao Heming’s condition across worlds 70 77.
- Heartfire connections: Served as an intermediary for observing Embroidered Tiger and the bearer of a heartfire-marked peachwood sword 98 119.
Treasure Nurturing and Storage
Primordial Qi within the Pearl can restore treasures and improve their quality over time 21 25.
| Treasure / Contents | Documented Effect |
|---|---|
| Sun Gold Wheel | Nurtured from a damaged Spirit Artifact fragment into a true Spirit Artifact, eventually reaching peak Spirit Artifact quality 21 52 106. |
| Phoenix Cry Talisman | Recovered most of its strength despite originally retaining only enough power for one strike 25. |
| Flowing Flame True Fire Sword | Nurturing offered a route from supreme-quality Profound Grade toward Earth Grade without blood sacrifice; later reached peak Spirit Artifact quality 25 106. |
| Sun and Moon Startling Wheels | Stored for nurturing after refinement; their grade subsequently rose 107 154. |
| Bai Chunyang’s bloodline power | A trace was placed inside before Fang Yu’s departure for another world 179. |
| Manuals and personal belongings | Used as storage in the Demon Martial Realm after initially being inaccessible there 182 224 229. |
Primordial Qi Reserves and Restoration
The Pearl stores converted energy for cultivation, defense, recovery, and travel 51 101 179.
- Breakthrough support: Its reserves helped Fang Yu condense seventy-three drops of liquid Law Power during Foundation Establishment, reaching the Seventh Layer in one breakthrough 51.
- Lightning-related recovery: Released Primordial Qi that absorbed scattered lightning during a crisis involving his fractured Golden Core, participating in the subsequent repair of his core and body 101.
- Bodily restoration: In the Demon Martial Realm, lightning-charged Primordial Qi allowed limited use of an innate Divine Ability described as bringing the dead back to life and restoring flesh to bare bones 182.
- Passive replenishment: Can accumulate energy from heaven and earth and the sun, moon, and stars 182 183.
- Capacity versus charge: Its actual Primordial Qi capacity is described as almost unlimited; Fang Yu’s percentage display measures progress toward the next martial breakthrough, not total storage capacity 183.
Mirror-Breaking Pearl Applications
In the Demon Martial Realm, Fang Yu adapted the Pearl primarily to Qi and Blood cultivation 183 208.
- Breakthrough reserve: Converts newly produced or excess Qi and Blood into Primordial Qi for later use 183 208.
- Overload prevention: Acts as a regulating valve, keeping his body at its cultivation limit without allowing excess Qi and Blood to make it burst 208.
- Demon Beast meat conversion: Changes the energy from low-grade Demon Beast meat into the specific Qi and Blood normally supplied by Mystic Armor Elephant meat 228.
- Multiple cultivation methods: Removes the usual dependence on each method’s matching Demon Beast meat. Fang Yu regarded this as enabling him to cultivate all eight top-tier methods together 207 224.
- Recovery reserve: Fang Yu expected stored Primordial Qi to offset the post-burst weakness of Spring Wind Palm 224.
Limitations
- Finite available fuel: Counter-divination and other functions can drain reserves faster than Fang Yu can replenish them. During the Ghost Metal incident, exhaustion allowed the metal nature to escape and open a passage between worlds 164.
- Not a universal danger warning: Fate Weaving did not warn him when Feng Yi followed gathering true spirits through ordinary means rather than divination 58.
- Powerful observers remain hazardous: Monitoring Zhao Heming risked alerting Zhang Daochang or another major Mount Longhu figure; Fang Yu stopped when the Pearl’s consumption increased 93.
- Concealment can itself be suspicious: Fang Yu recognized that an inability to divine his circumstances could signal that something was unusual about him 124.
- Suppressed intuitive awareness: Shielding heavenly secrets also dulled his natural awareness of fate-related connections unless he actively divined or someone divined him 162.
- No blanket immunity to karma: Purifying particular powers did not prevent every karmic relationship. Fang Yu still formed a Buddhist karmic bond through a cultivation text and faced consequences connected to the Goldstone Sect’s sacrifices 124 162.
- Local Heavenly Dao restrictions: In the Demon Martial Realm, Void Penetration was temporarily disabled and Fate Weaving lacked support from the local Heavenly Dao. Fortune-sensing and flame-control abilities were likewise unusable 182.
- Slow passive recharge: After his lightning-derived reserves were spent, Fang Yu initially had to rely on gradual absorption of sun and moon essence 182.
