Power Progression

Fang Yu’s documented Golden Core milestones:

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Golden Core formation 96 Forms his first core in the sealed Autumn Moon Mountain spirit mine, using Golden Core Formation Pills and immense quantities of Spiritual Qi.

Middle Golden Core 160 Advances after ten years with abundant Spiritual Qi, a top-tier cultivation method, and pills refined using fourth-tier spirit medicines.
Late Golden Core 169 Advances after another thirty years of cultivation and begins preparing for Nascent Soul.

Cultivation Systems

Despite sharing a name, Golden Core is not an equivalent rank in the two worlds 8 101 165.

Aspect Great Scarlet Heaven Black and Yellow Heaven
Realm sequence Qi Refining → Foundation Establishment → Golden Core → Nascent Soul → Spirit Transformation 8. Qi Ingestion → Dao Foundation → Purple Mansion → Golden Core 8.
Nature A condensed core of Law Power within the Dantian 96. A rank tied to a Golden Position and the corresponding Heavenly Dao rules 165.
Common designation Golden Core cultivator, Ancestor, or patriarch 75 96. Golden Core True Lord 8 176.
Longevity Five hundred years 51. Nominally endures alongside heaven and earth, at the cost of progressive assimilation into its rules 176.
Further advancement Nascent Soul, followed by Spirit Transformation 8. Golden Core is the highest realm in the orthodox sequence initially known to Fang Yu 8.

Comparison with Purple Mansion

  • Fang Yu initially estimates that a Qi Refining Golden Core and a Qi Ingestion Purple Mansion should be broadly comparable in raw power 64.
  • After forming his core, he judges himself inferior to a Purple Mansion cultivator in Divine Abilities and mystical capabilities 101.
  • Golden Core cultivation alone does not give him a Purple Mansion cultivator’s ability to travel through the Great Void 101.

Core Formation

Prerequisites and Risks

  • Foundation Establishment Great Perfection: Reaching one hundred drops of liquid Law Power constitutes Great Perfection, also called False Core. It precedes actual Golden Core formation 78.
  • Low unaided success rate: At Great Perfection, Fang Yu estimates that attempting core formation without a spiritual aid would be ninety-nine percent certain to fail 80.
  • Severe consequences: Failure can reduce cultivation or cripple meridians. Even with a Golden Core Formation Pill, survival does not guarantee freedom from injury 151.
  • Restricted methods: Cultivation methods capable of reaching Golden Core are precious major-sect inheritances, rather than ordinary commercial goods 52.

Golden Core Formation Pill

The Golden Core Formation Pill is a third-tier pill regarded as the best spiritual aid for core formation 80.

  • Increases the chance of success by approximately twenty percentage points 80.
  • Can preserve the user’s life if the attempt fails, but does not prevent every harmful consequence 80 151.
  • Requires exceptionally scarce ingredients; even a Golden Core sect may need years to assemble a complete set 80.
  • Documented main ingredients include a third-tier Demon Beast Inner Core and, in another preparation, a Five Elements Spirit Fruit 91 93 151.
  • Fang Yu refines three pills before his first breakthrough. Before forming his Five Elements core, he produces one genuine and one inferior pill and receives another from Zhang Zhonghu 94 152 153.

Documented Formation Process

Fang Yu’s first breakthrough demonstrates the following sequence:

Step Process
Spiritual Qi gathering A vast Spiritual Qi tide forms above the mine and pours energy into the breakthrough site 96.
Condensation Liquid Law Power gathers into a fist-sized core covered in mysterious runes and flowing flames 96.
Compression Divine Sense compresses the core to the size of a longan. Its outer shell cracks away, revealing a smooth inner core 96.
Law Power release The discarded shell becomes immense Law Power, which surges through and ruptures the meridians 96.
Meridian reconstruction Divine Sense, Spiritual Qi, and the pill’s medicinal power repeatedly repair the meridians until they can withstand Golden Core Law Power 96.

Abilities and Limits

Law Power and Physical Foundation

  • Golden Core Law Power requires stronger meridians than Foundation Establishment Law Power; their reconstruction is part of Fang Yu’s breakthrough 96.
  • Retaining a Golden Core-level body, Dantian, and meridians makes Fang Yu’s later recultivation extraordinarily fast despite his Mid-Grade Spirit Root 111 141.
  • Golden Core presence alone frightens a second-tier Demon Beast into fleeing 133.
  • A core can be self-destructed. Fang Yu deliberately drains Qian Chongzi’s strength to prevent him from doing so 91.

Core Quality and Attributes

  • Five Elements core: Fang Yu’s new core expands his Dantian and strengthens his meridians. Its five attributes collectively give him roughly five times the Law Power of an ordinary single-attribute Golden Core Rogue Cultivator 154.
  • Lightning refinement: Heavenly lightning, assisted by the Yuanchen Pearl’s Primordial Qi, repairs and transforms his first core. Its Red Lotus Karmic Fire becomes lightning fire possessing destructive and regenerative qualities 101.
  • Cultivation method matters: Fang Yu attributes the Five Elements core’s superiority to the immortal sect’s True Disciple cultivation method, rather than to Golden Core rank alone 154.

Law Treasures and Talisman Treasures

  • Natal Law Treasures are appropriate equipment for Golden Core cultivators. After his first breakthrough, Fang Yu considers even peak-quality Spirit Artifacts inadequate replacements 106.
  • A Golden Core cultivator can seal a trace of a lifebound Law Treasure’s power into a talisman treasure, allowing it to release approximately one-tenth of the original treasure’s might 21.
  • Even a Qi Refining cultivator can activate such a talisman treasure; a surprise strike can kill a Foundation Establishment cultivator 21.

Resource Requirements

  • A second-tier Spirit Vein no longer meets Fang Yu’s cultivation needs after core formation 97.
  • The occupation of every third-tier Spirit Vein in the Western Extremity contributes to his decision to seek cultivation grounds in the Eastern Lands 96.
  • Golden Core rank does not make a cultivator invulnerable: Fang Yu’s group kills six Golden Core cultivators during three years of raids, while exceptional peak-stage opponents remain dangerous enough to force their retreat 148 150.

Golden Core True Lords

Golden Positions

  • True Lords derive their authority from Golden Positions, which govern corresponding Heavenly Dao rules 165.
  • Advancement in the Dao of Qi Ingestion requires recognition from the relevant Golden Position. Sufficient Dao Attainment alone cannot substitute for that authorization 169.
  • Fang Yu concludes that the True Lords maintain an ordered hierarchy of immortal ranks and suppress paths that might escape it, including ancient Qi Refining cultivation 165.
  • Fang Yu estimates that, outside Black and Yellow Heaven, a True Lord deprived of the supporting rules would be only a stronger Nascent Soul cultivator, or at most comparable to Spirit Transformation 165.

Assimilation and Escape

Bai Chunyang reveals that the True Lords’ apparent immortality conceals a gradual loss of identity. They are continually assimilated by heaven and earth until they become part of its rules 176.

As the holder of the Precious Water position, she brings her golden body into Great Scarlet Heaven and forcibly closes the passage behind her. She later confirms that she used Fang Yu to escape Black and Yellow Heaven 166 176.

Institutional and Political Significance

  • Regional balance: The possibility of the Cloud Spirit Sect producing a second or third Golden Core cultivator threatens the balance among the three nations and helps explain their competition over a middle-grade Spirit Stone mine 56.
  • Public authority: Daoist Thousand Insects uses his Golden Core ceremony and overwhelming pressure to solicit accusations against the Cloud Spirit Sect from subordinate lineages 75.
  • Economic influence: Mosquito Immortal City’s acquisition of a second Golden Core defender sends property prices soaring; centrally located shops quadruple in value before the ceremony 75.
  • New factions: Fang Yu’s first breakthrough establishes another Golden Core-level force in the Western Extremity. He immediately demands a larger share of the Autumn Moon Mountain mine from the four existing powers 96.
  • Sect advancement: In the Ascension Immortal Sect, Golden Core is necessary but insufficient for True Disciple status. Ordinary Golden Core disciples and elders also exist; True Disciples must demonstrate additional talent and pass the selection process 137 155 157.
  • Inheritance access: True Disciple status provides a chance to obtain fourth-tier inheritances, making it distinct from simply attaining Golden Core 137.
Term Distinction
False Core Another name for Foundation Establishment Great Perfection, not a completed Golden Core 78.
Demon Beast Inner Core A beast-derived material used in alchemy. A Golden Core Dragonfish yields a third-tier Inner Core 135.
Golden Core Formation Pill A third-tier aid for entering the realm, not the cultivator’s core itself 80.
Nine-Aperture Golden Core A separate fifth-tier Spirit Transformation pill that raises Spirit Root aptitude to Heaven Spirit Root quality and returns the body to an innate state 144.
