Red Dragons Are Never Deceived by Lies
"Scream! Struggle! Run for your lives!
The only meaning your lives have in this world, you insignificant ants, is to entertain me! Gwahahaha!!!"
A wingspan of over thirty-five feet cast a broad shadow as the scarlet wyrmling roared with laughter in midair.
Sol spat out an endless stream of soccer ball-sized rockburst bombs, swooping like a dive bomber and sending the young dragons below scrambling in disarray.
Because of the monster templates loaded into his body, the magic surging around him was far more powerful than that of a True Dragon his size.
That made his breath attacks stronger and more frequent, and let him recover from them faster.
A few Blue Dragons lucky enough to have escaped the first wave of breath attacks steeled themselves and took to the air, hoping to knock Sol down.
But whether in speed, agility, or size, they were utterly outmatched. Against Sol, they were as helpless as doves in a peregrine falcon's talons.
He easily dodged the lightning breath they spat at him, and before long, they were knocked out of the sky one after another.
Seeing that defeat was inevitable, the remaining young dragons scattered and fled in panic.
Sol's pale golden eyes swept over the young dragons scattering below as he began to consider who had instigated the attempt to surround him.
First, it couldn't have been the Blue Dragons. Those fellows considered themselves Tiamat's rightful heirs and had never respected any Chromatic Dragons except Red Dragons. Even if they wanted to gang up on him, they would never take the initiative to join forces with other Chromatic Dragons.
Second, the Black Dragons were extremely unlikely to be responsible. They stank too much, and their personalities were so gloomy, like shut-ins who spent all day holed up at home, afraid to show their faces. Presumably, they didn't have the nerve either.
That left only the Green Dragons. Those long, slender reptiles were best at stirring up trouble and plotting behind the scenes. This did look like their handiwork.
Having made up his mind, Sol instantly fixed his sharp gaze on the Green Dragons retreating deeper into the oasis.
He didn't care whether his guess was right. Once he decided it was them, it was them, whether it was true or not! With a fierce beat of his wings, he went straight after them.
Those wretches who schemed behind others' backs had to be taught a harsh lesson.
"Cuibisi, that Red Dragon is chasing us!"
"Damn it! Why won't he go after those Blue Dragons and Black Dragons? Why is he so fixated on us?"
"Stop talking and run!"
The three Green Dragons fled through the dense woods, their slender bodies twisting nimbly like snakes as they navigated the complex terrain.
But no matter how fast they ran, how could they possibly outrun Sol in the air?
In just a few minutes, a vicious ball of flame slammed down in front of the three Green Dragons, forcing them to a halt.
"You offended me and still think you can run? Haven't you green lizards made things a little too simple for yourselves?"
Sol's figure then descended from the sky like a dancing flame. The tremendous impact broke swathes of branches and leaves as he landed right in front of the three Green Dragons.
He held his thick neck high, a fierce light flickering in his pale golden eyes as his mouth stretched into a menacing grin.
The three young Green Dragons exchanged glances. Up close, the fellow before them felt even more formidable than he had from a distance.
Of all the Chromatic Dragons, Red Dragons had the strongest builds, while Green Dragons were the most slender.
Given the same body length, a Red Dragon weighed at least 1.5 times as much as a Green Dragon. And because of his monster templates, Sol was exceptionally robust even among Red Dragons.
Compared with him, the three Green Dragons were like a ninety-five-pound beanpole facing a hundred-kilogram strongman, both standing 1.9 meters tall. They had no chance of winning.
Having realized this, the most brightly scaled of the three Green Dragons bowed her head slightly and spoke in a gentle voice.
"Great Red Dragon, there may be some misunderstanding between us. Could you hear me out for a moment?"
Sol snorted disdainfully, two streams of white vapor issuing from his nostrils. The thick smell of sulfur spread, dispersing the cloying, honey-sweet scent around the Green Dragons.
"A misunderstanding? I don't think there's any misunderstanding. Weren't you the ones who brought those blue cowards and black stinkbugs together?"
With their secret plotting exposed, the three Green Dragons' hearts tightened.
Weren't Red Dragons supposed to be muscle-headed idiots? How could he be so perceptive?
But this minor surprise was nothing to the naturally cunning Green Dragons. Their expressions didn't change in the slightest, and they even spoke with a hint of grievance.
"Of course not. How could we possibly do such a thing?"
"It was all those Blue Dragons. They-"
"Shut up!"
A sudden shout cut the Green Dragons off. Sol narrowed his eyes dangerously. These green reptiles dared to deny his guess.
"You mean I! Was! Wrong!"
Scorching flames gushed from between the Red Dragon's fangs. Faced with his hostile gaze, the three Green Dragons hastily changed their tune.
"No, we didn't say you were wrong."
"It's just that there are some things-"
Sol abruptly spread his wings, their vast span whipping up a gale and cutting the three Green Dragons off again.
"Since I'm not wrong, then you are. Pay the price for what you've done!!"
His furious roar was still echoing through the air when Sol's massive form lunged forward, charging at the three Green Dragons with crushing force.
However, though Green Dragons' strength wasn't particularly impressive among True Dragons of the same size, their physical agility was second to none.
As Sol charged, they merely twisted and sprang with their slender bodies, scattering instantly like nimble snakes.
"Damn it! There's no reasoning with this guy!"
"Then let's stop wasting our breath and show this idiot we're not easy prey!"
Most True Dragons began awakening their own magical abilities while young. Besides their innate poison breath, Green Dragons also excelled at plant and nature magic, making them somewhat similar to druids.
These three Green Dragons had awakened Invisibility, Plant Growth, and a charm ability, respectively.
A hazy glow seemed to bloom around the Green Dragon named Cuibisi. The fine scales covering her body suddenly became as dazzling as emeralds, drawing Sol's gaze.
The instant his mind was briefly enthralled, another Green Dragon pointed a claw at the ground beneath him. A cluster of thick vines immediately burst from the earth and bound his limbs fast.
"Great, we've got him!"
"This idiot isn't so impressive after all!"
Just then, the remaining Green Dragon appeared silently behind Sol. Her chest and belly had long since swollen, and a fierce torrent of deadly poison spewed forth.
"You're dead now!"
