Background / History
Hatching and Early Survival
Sol retains memories of a previous human life, including wildlife programs, games, and his childhood. He uses that knowledge immediately after hatching, cleaning himself and eating eggshells before his younger siblings can secure their full portions. The extra nourishment lets him dominate their first fights and emerge from his initial growth sleep noticeably stronger 1 2 3.
His mother, Chilier, provides little reliable care. Facing prolonged hunger, Sol persuades Xisitana and Kalpu to hunt with him, then claims most of their catches. His first wheel reward, a Dragonvein Crystal, provides the energy needed to accelerate his development beyond what their scarce meals could support 3 4 5 6 7.
Flight and Escape from the Centaurs
After discovering evidence that Chilier has fought centaurs, Sol prepares for the possibility that her enemies will find the nest. He exercises his wings, prioritizes growth, and eventually loads the Mernos Template. When Chilier fails to return, he concludes that she has abandoned them and leads his siblings away 8 9 10 11.
Centaurs later pursue the three hatchlings. Sol strengthens their breath with Coal, helps kill three advance warriors, and rigs a corpse over a concealed Large Barrel Bomb. The resulting explosion devastates the pursuers. He then approaches the survivors to taunt them and identify himself, ensuring that their hatred has a specific target from which he can collect Mental Power Essence 14 16 17 19.
The Boarfolk Settlement
After more than two months of wandering, Sol selects a relatively safe hill range near a lake. He and his siblings excavate a shelter, then conquer a nearby Boarfolk tribe. Sol claims the followers for himself, appoints the first Boarfolk to submit as their leader, and offers food and strength in exchange for loyalty 20 21 23.
His rule combines practical investment with lethal coercion. He distributes a healing Blue Mushroom under strict rationing and burns a disobedient Boarfolk as an example. After winter reduces the tribe’s population, he introduces Kiko corn and potatoes, orders farmland cleared, and plans fertilizer use involving dragon dung and plant ash 24 25 27 30.
Forced Arrival at Blackrock Fort
Half-Orcs raid Sol’s cave at night, attempting to capture him with weapons and an ox-sinew net. Sol repels the initial assault with explosive smoke and fire, escapes with his siblings, restores his strength with Dragonvein Crystals, and hunts down the retreating attackers 31 32 33.
Learning that the attackers serve Storm Fang, Sol prepares to abandon the settlement rather than become a blue dragon’s servant. Chilier intercepts him before he can leave and forcibly gathers all three offspring for the Blackrock Fort faction 34 35.
Rivalries Among the Young Dragons
At the Dragon Castle, Sol fights Zefiro and discovers that the surrounding young dragons are a much richer source of essence than his siblings alone. He establishes a separate Gobi lair, loads the Scale Bat Template, and repeatedly provokes rivals to build both his reputation and his essence reserves 37 38 39 41 44.
An early battle against the Blue Dragons leaves both sides badly injured, but establishes Sol as an opponent the others cannot casually bully. After obtaining the Rock Jagras Template, he decisively overwhelms a coalition of Blue, Green, and Black Dragons that has also attacked Xisitana and Kalpu. He subsequently defeats three Green Dragons and forces them to lead him to the Black Dragons’ swamp lair, where he orders them to attack first 42 43 45 46 47 48 49 50.
Appearance
- Build: Exceptionally robust even for a red dragon. At sixteen feet long, he exceeds the roughly twelve-foot maximum given for ordinary red dragon wyrmlings, causing other dragons to mistake him for an older dragon 45 48.
- Eyes and scales: Pale-gold vertical pupils and scarlet scales; intense internal heat can make his scales appear vividly flame-colored 3 8 31.
- Tail: Long and slender relative to his body, functioning as a powerful whip in combat 3 41.
- Wings: Disproportionately large, eventually spanning over thirty-five feet. Earlier descriptions note scarlet scales across their surfaces and flame-tempered blue along the inner membrane edges 20 45.
- Template alterations: The Scale Bat fusion adds joints and complexity to his wing bones and produces small, winglike external ears 39.
Personality
Sol is calculating and strongly motivated by survival. His human reasoning can restrain draconic impulses: he resists investigating his mother’s suspected treasure vault, avoids her when she is enraged, and retreats when confronted with threats beyond his strength. His public claims of red-dragon fearlessness are often tactical performances rather than literal descriptions of his behavior 3 8 10 35 42.
He is also domineering, cruel, and deliberately provocative. He withholds food, beats his siblings into obedience, manipulates their rivalry, and terrorizes followers and enemies. Because hostile emotions generate essence, behavior that would otherwise merely satisfy his pride also directly funds his growth 5 6 12 16 24 44.
His treatment of allies is transactional but not entirely indifferent. He acknowledges his siblings’ willingness to fight, rewards their assistance with crystals, and secures food for them. He likewise invests in agriculture and healing for the Boarfolk, while regarding them as his property 17 24 27 30 43.
Greed extends beyond treasure to advancement itself. Sol struggles to save essence, resents expensive exchange prices, considers eventual godhood, and imagines combining enough templates to surpass even the greatest draconic bloodlines 27 29 45 50.
Abilities & Skills
Mental Power Essence Wheel
A mental interface displays Sol’s dragon status and a wheel of seven nested rings, allowing him to draw items and templates from the Monster Hunter world 2.
- Essence generation: Strong emotions directed at Sol generate Mental Power Essence. He cultivates anger, fear, envy, and resentment through intimidation and conspicuous displays of treasure 3 19 44.
- Identifiable target: Having enemies know his name helps direct their emotions toward him specifically rather than toward an anonymous red dragon 19.
- Stored rewards: Drawn rewards need not be extracted immediately. Previously unlocked items can be obtained again through essence exchanges 4 7 16.
- Costs: Outermost-ring draws cost one essence point. Direct exchanges vary: Dragonvein Crystal costs one point per kilogram, while a Large Barrel Bomb costs five points 2 7 50.
- Limitations: His increased income still falls far short of expensive options; repeat exchanges for Mernos and Toad templates cost 200 and 270 points respectively 50.
Template Fusion
Sol integrates selected creature traits into his existing dragon body rather than replacing it wholesale 10 24 39 45.
- Inferior or incompatible traits can be converted into pure vitality, supporting further growth 10 24.
- Compatibility affects how completely abilities transfer. Below 50%, conflicting abilities can cause failure and harmful effects 24.
- Transformations require substantial food and energy; fusion can trigger intense hunger before the bodily changes finish 10 45 46.
- Complementary traits can reinforce his existing abilities, as demonstrated by the interaction between the Rock Jagras Template and his fire-and-earth attributes 45.
Flight and Aerial Combat
The Mernos and Scale Bat templates make flight one of Sol’s greatest advantages over other young dragons 10 39 47.
- Can lift off without a running start, hover, perform intricate aerial maneuvers, and rapidly change position during combat 10 39 41 47.
- Combines speed comparable to a Blue Dragon’s with flying skill surpassing a Black Dragon’s 46.
- Uses diving strikes, attacks on opponents’ wing roots, and aerial bombardment to control engagements 41 46 48.
- His wings remain vulnerable to physical injury; centaur weapons and dragon battles have torn membranes and broken wing bones 17 43.
Fire Breath and Gas Production
Sol’s primary natural weapon is a cone of dragon fire, strengthened by abundant mana and high-energy fuel 32 41.
- Coal enhancement: Eating Coal greatly increases internal heat and strengthens his breath attacks 16 21 31.
- Flammable smoke: His Toad-derived gas ability allows him to fill an enclosed cave with smoke and ignite it into an explosion 24 31.
- Sustained flame: Can sweep a continuous stream across multiple enemies or redirect it around a shield 32.
- Energy limits: Two consecutive breath attacks leave him weakened during the Half-Orc battle. Later template enhancements make his breath stronger, more frequent, and faster to recover 33 48.
Reactive Saliva and Rockburst Projectiles
The Rock Jagras fusion adds an explosive ranged attack alongside his ordinary fire breath 45.
- Produces high-temperature reactive saliva capable of burning another dragon’s face 47.
- Spits fire-and-rock projectiles resembling cannonballs; later attacks include repeated soccer ball-sized rockburst bombs 45 48.
- Uses aerial volleys to disable enemy fliers before bombarding less capable airborne opponents 47 48.
Dragon Physiology and Recovery
- Natural weapons: Powerful jaws, claws, tail, and explosive acceleration support hunting and close combat 3 6.
- Digestion: Can extract some nourishment from inorganic material and rapidly process large quantities of meat or energy-rich crystals 3 7 46.
- Regeneration: Broken bones, torn muscles, and damaged wing membranes can heal without treatment when no obstructive magical energy remains. One major recovery takes about a week 43.
- Heat and poison resistance: Endures fire with little harm and resists a Green Dragon’s poison breath, though the latter still causes painful irritation 17 31 49.
- Body heat: Can release enough heat during combat to force a constricting Green Dragon to loosen her grip 49.
Perception and Frightful Presence
- Possesses darkvision, sharp eyesight, and movement tracking sufficient to follow incoming arrows 3 17 33.
- Gains echolocation through the Scale Bat Template 39.
- Perceives and absorbs fire and earth elements with increasing efficiency; later recovers spent magic while sleeping 20 45 50.
- Uses Frightful Presence to project overwhelming fear into nearby creatures 46.
- Recognizes unexplained essence notifications as a warning that concealed intelligent creatures may be directing hostile attention toward him 46.
Equipment / Items
- Dragonvein Crystals — His principal growth and recovery resource; also used to reward, manipulate, and strengthen his siblings 7 12 25 33 43.
- Coal / Burning Carbon — High-energy fuel consumed to enhance dragon breath 15 16 31.
- Large Barrel Bomb — Used in a corpse-triggered trap against the pursuing centaurs 15 17 19.
- Ivy, Needleberry seeds, and pebbles — Combined with the bomb as adhesive covering, concealment, and dangerous fragments 15 16.
- Blue Mushroom — Distributed among injured Boarfolk as a tightly rationed healing reward 24.
- Kiko corn seeds and potatoes — Introduced to develop his followers’ food supply 27 28 30.
- Rusty refined iron Great Sword — A nearly two-meter weapon drawn from the wheel; Sol considers melting it down to equip followers rather than wielding it himself 27.
- Rathalos Whisky / Spirits — Potent liquor that puts him to sleep for half a day; later discovers that another bottle costs three essence points 28 29 50.
Relationships
- Chilier — Birth mother. Her neglect drives Sol toward independence; she later captures him and brings him into the Blackrock Fort faction 5 11 35.
- Xisitana — Younger sister, hunting partner, reluctant combat ally, and recurring source of essence. Sol bullies her but also supplies crystals and food 3 6 12 42 43.
- Kalpu — Younger brother subjected to the same coercive leadership. His assistance in dangerous battles earns Sol’s limited approval and material rewards 17 42 43.
- Grok Big Tusk / Kroge — Elderly Boarfolk associated with the conquered tribe’s leadership. Sol is impressed that he survives winter and directs him and the tribe in agricultural work 21 27 30.
- Storm Fang — Powerful adult Blue Dragon whose forces attempt to capture Sol. Sol regards service under him as enslavement and resents being brought into his faction 34 35 36.
- Leilia — Blue Dragon authority whose prohibition against young dragons killing one another gives Sol room to challenge rivals without expecting a lethal response 38 42.
- Zefiro / Zephyro Theralis — Blue Dragon rival who introduces himself as a descendant of Storm Fang. Sol defeats him during their first confrontation 37 38.
- White Dragon wyrmlings — Hungry young dragons to whom Sol gives food while challenging the Blue Dragons’ dominance at feeding time 41 42.
