Reborn, How Had the World Changed?
"Hiss-" A sharp pain struck, and Tang San felt as though his brain had turned to paste. Unable to bear it any longer, he clutched his head and crouched on the ground. What's going on? Why is my body so weak? I became a god at level one hundred. How could anyone possibly hurt me?
"Xiao San, Xiao San! What's wrong? Are you all right? Today's the big day for your Martial Soul Awakening. Can you hold on?"
After Tang San had crouched there for a while, the searing pain in his head gradually faded. Just as he adjusted, an elderly voice filled with concern reached him.
He looked up and saw an old man dressed in clean cloth robes, with seven or eight children around six years old following behind him.
Where is this? Why am I here? He clearly remembered slaying Bibi Dong, resolving the crisis on the Douluo Continent, and preparing to marry Xiao Wu in the presence of his father, Grandmaster, and everyone from Shrek.
How did I end up here after just two cups of wine? He lowered his head and looked himself over. He had returned to his six-year-old self!
Damn heavens, are you playing with me? He had just finished everything and was on the verge of having a perfect life, only to end up back at six years old. Tang San was utterly aggrieved.
But then he reconsidered. Being reborn at six might not be such a bad thing. He could seize the opportunities from his previous life sooner and make up for many regrets, such as preventing the Soul Hunting Operation and Xiao Wu's sacrifice.
"I'm fine, Grandpa Jack. I was just so happy to know I was about to awaken my Martial Soul. Let's go."
Tang San looked up with an innocent smile. He was too young and weak right now, so he would keep his head down until he went to Nuoding Academy and found Grandmaster and Xiao Wu before making any other plans. After hearing Tang San's words, the old man looked at him strangely but said nothing more.
On the way to the village's Spirit Hall, Tang San frowned again. Why were these buildings somewhat different from the ones he remembered? Grandpa Jack looked a little strange too. But after thinking it over for a moment, Tang San quickly found himself an excuse.
It's been almost twenty years since I became a god. It's normal to forget a few things. Maybe I just remembered wrong.
It was only after entering the village's Spirit Hall that Tang San truly panicked. Unlike the dilapidated wooden hut from his previous life, the Spirit Hall in this life was actually built of stone. And the person awakening his Martial Soul was not Blind Douluo Su Yuntao, but a female Battle Soul Master.
What's going on? Without Blind Douluo's certification, how am I supposed to become a god? What on earth happened? Why is everything different from my last life?
In Fasinuo Province, ever since the Sun Moon Continent had merged with the Douluo Continent, the province on the Heaven Dou Empire's border had become the Sun Moon Empire's primary target. With the support of its powerful Soul Tool legions, the Sun Moon Empire had routed the Heaven Dou Empire's garrison in a single blow and taken Fasinuo Province with barely any effort.
For some reason, however, Nuoding City had remained unchanged, as though it had been forgotten.
Meanwhile, at Nuoding Academy, in the same familiar Dorm Seven, a little girl dressed in plain but tidy clothes pushed the door open and entered.
"Hello, everyone. Is this Dorm Seven?"
Before Xiao Wu could finish speaking, she was stunned by the scene before her. A little boy about her age was lying comfortably on a bed, while a circle of Nuoding Academy students in school uniforms lay around him.
The boy's eyes lit up when he saw Xiao Wu. He sprang from the bed and walked over, kicking the fallen students out of his way as he went.
"These guys. I told them the floor was cold and they shouldn't sleep on it, but they insisted. What can you do?"
The boy looked at Xiao Wu and made a couple of offhand complaints before walking up to her and extending his right hand.
"Are you a new student? My name's Xu De, the De from 'high moral character.' I'm six years old. Nice to meet you."
Looking at the boy who had come up to her and held out his hand, Xiao Wu involuntarily placed her hand in his, then studied his appearance.
Xu De wore a silver-white robe embroidered with a dark silver sun-and-moon emblem, with a silver-white belt around his waist. His hair was pure white, neatly tied behind his head with a silver hairpin.
She hadn't noticed it earlier, but only when Xu De came up to her did she realize how tall he was. She was already considered tall among children her age, yet Xu De was a whole head taller than her.
She had met plenty of people on her journey here: nobles and commoners, old people and children. But the boy before her seemed naturally different from them. As for what exactly that difference was, Xiao Wu couldn't put it into words.
As Xiao Wu studied Xu De, Xu De was also studying the little girl before him: her pretty, rosy little face, her long black hair braided into a scorpion braid, and her big, watery eyes. So cute. I really want to pet her.
"Hello! My name's Xiao Wu, the Wu from 'dance.' I'm six years old too!" Coming back to her senses, Xiao Wu released Xu De's hand. Her face was a little red, but she still gave him a playful introduction.
"Xiao Wu, that's a lovely name. Since this is our first meeting, according to my hometown's customs, I should give you a gift. But I didn't bring many things with me this time."
With that, Xu De pretended to think for a moment, then pulled a pink rabbit-shaped ring from his robes and offered it to Xiao Wu.
"Here, have this storage ring."
Xiao Wu's eyes lit up at the sight of it. What a pretty ring, and it's shaped like a rabbit too! I really want it.
But just as she was about to reach for it, she seemed to remember something. She waved her hand and declined. "Well, my mom said I shouldn't take things from people for no reason. Thank you for the offer, but I can't accept it."
Hearing this, Xu De's lips curled up slightly. Then he feigned regret and said, "Is that so? Never mind, then. I was going to give you the ring and ask you to do me a favor in return, but since you don't want it, I'll keep the ring and the ten thousand carrots inside it."
With that, he started to withdraw his hand. But when Xiao Wu heard there were carrots inside the ring, she no longer cared what her mother had said. She quickly snatched it and put it on.
"Since you want me to do you a favor, I'll accept the ring. Don't worry, I'll help you with anything I can! And if anyone bullies you in the future, tell me. I'll protect you!"
Xu De stared at the food-guarding Xiao Wu in surprise for a moment, then came to terms with it. Indeed, the Xiao Wu from the original story was hardly a reserved girl. She was playful and cheerful. The only pity was that she had been deceived by the hypocrite Tang San.
That was right. Xu De was naturally not a native of Douluo, but a transmigrator. And his transmigration seemed to have changed something, causing the Sun Moon Continent to connect with Douluo ahead of time.
Fortunately, his status in this life was exalted. He was the Sun Moon Emperor's eldest son and also the crown prince of the Sun Moon Empire. He was immensely glad of that. If he had started out in a trash protagonist setup and had to watch Tang San and Gangzi show off, he really wouldn't have been able to stand it.
Tang San, oh Tang San, now that I'm here, let me protect Xiao Wu instead. Watching Xiao Wu adorably eating a carrot, Xu De had intended to tease her some more, but before he could start, he heard a deep voice from outside the door.
A middle-aged Soul Master in the standard uniform of the Sun Moon Empire's imperial guard was reporting respectfully at the door. "Your Highness, we found the Su Yuntao you ordered us to look for. He's waiting for you in the headmaster's office now."
Oh, really? Blind Douluo is here? Xu De's eyes lit up, and he hurriedly took Xiao Wu by the hand and ran toward the headmaster's office. Xiao Wu had only eaten half her carrot, and her grip on it happened to be loose. When he pulled her along, the half-eaten carrot fell to the floor.
"My carrot! I only ate half of it!" Xiao Wu immediately wailed. Unfortunately, her cries did not awaken Xu De's conscience. She could only watch helplessly as the carrot slowly vanished from sight. Pain. Too much pain!
Meanwhile, in the headmaster's office at Nuoding Academy, a bewildered Su Yuntao sat trembling in a chair, not daring to breathe too loudly.
I was minding my own business, cultivating in Spirit Hall today, when a group of people rushed in. Before I could even see what was happening, they grabbed me and brought me here. This world is too scary. I'm just a Soul Grandmaster with a single dog Martial Soul. I don't even know whose cake I took a bite out of...
Was I caught peeing by the roadside? Or was I caught using Martial Soul Possession to sneak dog food? Just as Su Yuntao was reviewing every wrong he had ever committed, an excited voice came from a distance.
"Master Su, please, you must awaken my Martial Soul!"
