Background / History

Imperial upbringing and foreknowledge

Xu De is a transmigrator familiar with the original story’s characters, treasures, and future opportunities. He believes his arrival has altered history, causing the Sun Moon Continent to connect with Douluo earlier than expected 1.

He is the Sun Moon Emperor’s eldest and favorite son. His position as crown prince depends on support from Xu Tianxing and his maternal family rather than an automatic right of primogeniture. Despite his privileged upbringing, he remains conscious of divisions within the empire and the danger of spending too long away from its capital 6 10.

Nuoding and the seizure of Tang San’s opportunities

At Nuoding Academy, Xu De befriends Xiao Wu by giving her a rabbit-shaped storage ring filled with carrots. He resolves to keep her away from Tang San, whom he regards as a hypocrite. After awakening his Martial Souls, he leaves with Xiao Wu, Su Yuntao, and Xu Tianxing for Sunset Forest 1 2.

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, he wins Dugu Bo’s allegiance with a custom Energy Storage Pearl and a promise to cure Dugu Yan. His party strips the site of its Immortal Herbs. He also holds Yu Xiaogang captive aboard the flying ship and orders continued whipping and the withholding of food 3.

Spotting Tang San and Tang Hao in Nuoding City, Xu De takes advantage of nearby imperial forces to order an ambush. Tang Hao ultimately receives a fatal Scarlet Sun Cannon blast while protecting Tang San, who escapes with Chen Xin. Xu De then threatens Tang San’s life to extract information about Ah Yin and the Blue Silver Emperor Soul Bone from the dying Tang Hao 4 5 6.

During the subsequent forest expedition, Xu De obtains his first million-year Soul Ring from Tian Meng. His forces recover the sought Soul Bone and plant from a Rift Wind Demon Wolf’s den. He rewards Flying Feather Douluo and Wild Bull Douluo with Soul Bones and secures the Peerless Dragon Snake family’s allegiance by offering noble titles 7 9.

Building Mingdu’s academy

After returning to Mingdu, Xu De reports his Martial Souls to the emperor but conceals Tian Meng’s existence and Ah Yin. His proposal to establish Illustrious Virtue Hall becomes tied to a marriage alliance with Moon Valley’s princess, Xu Yueyi. He reluctantly accepts because Moon Valley’s support is politically valuable 10 11.

Xu De also obtains approval to establish Mingdu Soul Engineer Academy. Its public purpose is to organize Soul Engineer education and recruit exceptional students across the continent. Privately, he intends to draw talented Soul Masters and their families into the empire while separating Tang San from potential allies 11.

The Mingdu Seven Monsters and arena battles

Six years later, Xu De appears under the name Xu Wushuang. He intervenes when Wang Xiu tries to humiliate Huo Wu, then defeats Qian Hao for bullying nonlocal applicants. He spares Qian Hao out of respect for the military service of Qian Hao’s father and the Prince of Dongyang 12 13 14.

Meng Shu forms the Mingdu Seven Monsters from Xu De, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, Hu Liena, Shui Bing’er, and Shui Yue’er. Xu De becomes captain, names Hu Liena vice captain, and makes Soul Fighting and Soul Tool production central to their training 15 16 18.

At the arena, he defeats Dai Mubai alongside Ning Rongrong, then secretly empowers Zhu Zhuqing so that she can defeat her fiancé herself. When Dai Mubai threatens Zhu Zhuqing afterward, Xu De beats him and warns him against further threats. He nevertheless keeps Dai Mubai alive for his political usefulness and his potential to attract the Star Luo Imperial Family 19 20 21 22 23.

When the Shrek delegation arrives, Xu De presents himself to Liu Erlong as Yu Xiaogang’s proudest disciple and leads her to the Odd-job Department. After she discovers Yu Xiaogang and Tang San in a compromising situation, he carries her away and leaves Meng Yiran to keep her company 23 24.

Spatial displacement and Huo Yuhao

While considering a second ring for his Divine Eyes, Xu De is swallowed by a spatial rift. He awakens in an unfamiliar forest with most of his abilities unusable and Tian Meng severely weakened. Using his remaining attack, he kills a Wind Baboon and saves Huo Yuhao 25.

A second Sky Dream Ice Silkworm appears and, with encouragement from Xu De’s original Tian Meng, sacrifices himself to Xu De. The fusion supplies another million-year ring and Soul Bones, restores Xu De’s strength, and raises him to level 49. His Divine Eyes then absorb a mysterious black Qi descending from the sky 26.

Xu De compensates Huo Yuhao for taking Tian Meng’s opportunity by finding him a 470-year-old Bewitching Eye Fox for his first ring. Despite his hostility toward Tang San, he joins the Tang Sect to gain access to its sophisticated secret arts and accepts the deputy sect master position. He deliberately displays enough talent to attract Bei Bei’s attention and seek a meeting with Mu En, which he considers important to obtaining the Sun Moon Divine Trial 27.

Appearance

Xu De has pure white hair and is unusually tall for his age, standing a full head above Xiao Wu when they first meet at six 1.

• Initial clothing: A silver-white robe embroidered with a dark silver sun-and-moon emblem, a matching belt, and a silver hairpin securing his hair 1.
• Awakened eyes: His left eye resembles a blazing sun; his right resembles a silver moon 2.
• At twelve: Tall and strongly built; he initially conceals his face with a mask during the academy recruitment period 12 15.
• Dragon possession: Purple-black scales cover his body, accompanied by a spectral dragon. The transformation greatly enlarges his muscular build 14 20.

Personality

Xu De combines imperial ambition with extensive knowledge of the story’s original events. He treats treasures, institutions, marriages, and personal loyalties as resources for consolidating power. His generosity toward useful subordinates is calculated: distributing Soul Bones rewards service while demonstrating the benefits of loyalty 3 9 11.

He is protective of Xiao Wu and intervenes against bullying at his academy, but he is also ruthless toward enemies and captives. He orders Yu Xiaogang’s torture, initiates the attack on Tang Hao and Tang San, and uses threats against Tang San to coerce Tang Hao 3 4 5 12 13.

Xu De openly pursues multiple women and rejects the idea that he is morally exemplary. He enjoys showing off, sometimes choosing a more theatrical fighting style to impress spectators rather than ending a battle immediately 13 14 15 16.

His confidence is shaken by the spatial rift, which forces him to recognize that foreknowledge and exceptional Martial Souls do not make him invulnerable. He nevertheless remains pragmatic enough to study Tang Sect techniques despite despising Tang San 25 27.

Sun Moon Divine Eyes

A mutated eye Martial Soul derived from the Sun Moon Imperial Family’s Sun and Silver Moon Martial Souls. Its two eyes provide distinct abilities 2.
