The Commoner Soul Masters Seeking Treatment
The Spirit Hall Branch in Suotuo City was a third-tier Main Hall, overseeing the Spirit Hall Branches in more than a dozen small towns around the city.
Its grandeur stood out sharply among Suotuo City's buildings. It would not have been an exaggeration to call it the city lord's manor. In fact, that was indeed the case: a third-tier Main Hall could rival the city lord's manor.
"Martial Uncle, wait for me!" Bibi Dong chased after Qian Xunling on her short little legs. Failing to catch up was no great matter; what truly frightened her was the thought of Qian Xunling leaving her behind. "Martial Uncle!" she called fearfully.
"All right, I won't leave you behind," Qian Xunling said, somewhat impatient. Little Spider had been calling out the whole way, and everyone on the road had turned to look. Bibi Dong panted, "Mm-hmm."
The two arrived at the Main Hall and walked inside.
They made their way to the Soul Master reception counter.
When the Soul Master at the counter saw them, she smiled. "Are you two here to register as Soul Masters? Once you obtain Soul Master status recognized by our Spirit Hall, you can receive a monthly allowance of ten gold coins."
"Let's register," Qian Xunling said.
"Then please show me your Soul Ring, Martial Soul, and Soul Power first, sir." The female Soul Master brushed back her lovely hair and briefly averted her eyes from Qian Xunling's gaze. She gave a gentle smile, only to see Qian Xunling frown. "What? That's required too?"
"Um... yes."
Never mind his Martial Soul; his Soul Rings alone would give people a fright.
It was too showy, and it did not fit the image he wanted while sightseeing and traveling across the continent. Qian Xunling looked at Bibi Dong. "Little Spider, go on."
"Mm-hmm." Bibi Dong manifested the illusory form of her Death Spider Emperor Martial Soul, and a purple Thousand-Year Soul Ring slowly emerged at the same time. Almost everyone in the room turned to look.
Such a young Soul Master, and she had a top-tier Martial Soul.
She was a genius.
Anyone would be willing to get acquainted with a genius.
"Little girl, what's your Soul Power level?" the female Soul Master asked in surprise.
Bibi Dong had not expected to cause such a stir either. Only after looking at the unperturbed Qian Xunling did she breathe a sigh of relief and say, "Level thirteen."
"How old are you?" The female Soul Master recorded the information as she asked. Bibi Dong answered truthfully, "Six."
"You have Innate Full Soul Power?!" the female Soul Master exclaimed.
"Hurry up and cut the nonsense. Finish recording the information and bring us the allowance." Qian Xunling rapped on the counter, staring at the female Soul Master.
She nodded twice and asked, "Little girl, what's your name?"
"Her name is Little Spider," Qian Xunling said. "Write it just like that."
"Huh?" Bibi Dong was somewhat reluctant. She had a name of her own, so how could he give her the name of a little animal? But she did not argue. She nodded and said, "Little Spider."
The female Soul Master could not make sense of their relationship.
After recording the information, she handed Bibi Dong a Soul Master badge and took out a bag of Gold Soul Coins. "Little Spider, I still have to ask what you think. Would you like to join the Spirit Hall?"
Bibi Dong was already a member of the Spirit Hall. She fell silent for a moment.
After taking the money bag, Qian Xunling smiled and turned around. "Let's go, Little Spider."
"Oh." Bibi Dong disliked the name and answered somewhat reluctantly.
Just as the two were about to leave, a clamorous uproar reached them from outside. Bibi Dong nervously followed Qian Xunling, and the two saw the scene outside.
A group of Soul Masters in plain clothes, but with Soul Power in their bodies, were desperately trying to enter the Main Hall. The guards, however, were firmly blocking their way.
Behind the commoner Soul Masters were a number of severely injured Soul Masters, some lying on the ground and others being supported. Some were even at death's door. Their wounds looked as though they had been inflicted by Soul Beasts, though some appeared to have been inflicted by Evil Soul Masters.
"The Main Hall's medical treatment is only for Soul Masters of the Spirit Hall. Go back where you came from and don't cause trouble here. We won't treat you," a guard shouted.
"Please, my lord, my brothers really can't hold on much longer. Please show mercy. We'll pay the appropriate fee-double! We'll pay twice the price."
A middle-aged man wearing a hat stood at the front of the commoner Soul Masters. He had grasped the guard's hand and already pressed Gold Soul Coins into his palm.
But the guard pushed the Gold Soul Coins back. "No one is allowed to break the Spirit Hall's rules. If you aren't Soul Masters of the Spirit Hall, you can't receive treatment-unless you agree to join the Spirit Hall right now."
At those words, everyone fell silent.
But they all clenched their fists, as though their hearts held a great deal of bitterness. In the end, none of them chose to agree.
The sight left Bibi Dong at a loss. She asked Qian Xunling, "Martial Uncle, the Spirit Hall is so good, so why don't they want to join it? Their companions look like they're about to die."
"I... can we help them? Can we persuade those scary guards to save them?"
But instead of hearing an answer from Qian Xunling, Bibi Dong saw him chuckle. He said, "Little Spider, I've thought of a way to make money."
"Huh?" Before Bibi Dong could ask, Qian Xunling had already walked toward the two groups. Everyone else had been keeping well away, yet now they saw an exceptionally handsome young man with a little girl walk in.
"Everyone, stop arguing," Qian Xunling said.
"Who are you?" the guard asked, puzzled.
Qian Xunling glared at him. "Get lost. Go do whatever you're supposed to be doing. I'm taking over here. Take your men and leave, quickly."
At first, everyone's reaction was one of bewilderment.
Someone actually dared to speak to a guard of the Spirit Hall Main Hall like that.
And this guard was a Soul Emperor, someone not to be trifled with.
"You little..." A junior guard was about to teach Qian Xunling a lesson, but the guard captain stopped him. The captain said, "In that case, all right. We're pulling back."
The guard captain led his men back. The junior guards were utterly baffled, and one of them asked, "Captain, we should have taught that fellow a lesson. Why did you pull us back?"
The guard captain looked back and said, "Because the moment I saw him, I felt he was no ordinary person. I felt he ought to be giving me orders."
"?" The guards were collectively baffled.
The commoner Soul Masters looked at Qian Xunling. The middle-aged Soul Master in the hat asked, "Young master, are you also from the Spirit Hall?"
Qian Xunling chuckled. "Never mind whether I'm from the Spirit Hall or not. I'm telling you now, I can save those fellows behind you. I don't care whether you're commoner Soul Masters or Soul Masters of the Spirit Hall."
"Really?" The commoner Soul Masters were excited.
Qian Xunling raised his index and middle fingers. "But I have two conditions. First, I charge a fee. Second, I need a house to live in, and you have to arrange one for me."
The commoner Soul Masters discussed it and decided neither condition was a problem.
But the middle-aged Soul Master in the hat asked, "Young master, how much do you charge?"
"Let's calculate it at twice the price you were just going to pay the Spirit Hall. Is that all right?" Qian Xunling said. He did not know how much to charge, but he knew the Spirit Hall's fees had always been high.
The commoner Soul Masters felt the pinch, but they nodded all the same.
Qian Xunling gave a hum. "Then lead the way."
"Oh, mm-hmm." The commoner Soul Masters made way and respectfully led Qian Xunling and the almost excessively adorable Bibi Dong toward the residence they had discussed.
