Douluo: My Custom Achievement System
Jiang Nannan trotted into the courtyard. When she saw Jiang Yi there, she immediately smiled, ran over and wrapped her arms around his arm.
"Brother Jiang Yi, why are you up so early?"
"With all those firecrackers crackling and popping, I couldn't have slept through them even if I'd wanted to," Jiang Yi said with a smile.
"Hehe, let's go set off some firecrackers too, shall we?" Jiang Nannan wheedled.
"You're this old already, and you still want to play with firecrackers." Jiang Yi joked as he stroked her hair.
Jiang Nannan pouted in protest and shook Jiang Yi's arm.
At her wheedling, Jiang Yi could only smile helplessly.
"Once we've put up the Spring Festival couplets and paid our respects to heaven and earth, I'll take you out to play."
"But we can't play for too long. We need to come back and help Aunt Rou prepare the New Year's Eve dinner."
"Okay!" Jiang Nannan cried happily.
Both of them were Soul Masters, so handling such small chores naturally came easily to them.
After finishing their chores, the two went out onto the street, just as they had in previous years.
With Jiang Yi by her side, Jiang Nannan happily set off firecrackers, just as they had every New Year since they were little.
Watching the excited Jiang Nannan, Jiang Yi felt a pang of melancholy. He knew that this might be one of the few times they would spend together over the coming year.
Next year, Jiang Nannan would be eleven, old enough to graduate from a junior academy and attend a higher-level academy.
And with her talent, the place she would go was bound to be Shrek Academy.
As for him, he hadn't even solved the problem of breaking through to level ten, so how could he talk about going with her?
"Brother Jiang Yi, come here!" Jiang Nannan called from a distance.
"Coming!" Jiang Yi put those thoughts aside and answered at once.
Night soon fell, and warm yellow lamplight filled the little courtyard in the cold night.
"After today, another year will have passed. In the new year, may Nannan and Little Yi stay safe, sound and healthy."
Seated at the New Year's Eve dinner table, Aunt Rou voiced her simple wish with a smile on her face.
She only hoped her children would be healthy and did not insist that they become powerful Soul Masters.
"I hope you'll be healthy too, Mom," Jiang Nannan said with a smile.
Jiang Yi said nothing, only watching the two of them with a smile.
New Year's Eve passed in this warm atmosphere.
On the first day after New Year's, an expected visitor came to their home.
"Uncle She, you're here," Jiang Yi greeted She Fei at the door.
"It's been a long time, Little Yi." She Fei gave Jiang Yi a kind smile.
Jiang Yi's talent was somewhat lacking, but his Soul Emperor teacher and Jiang Nannan's attitude toward him naturally made him worthy of such treatment.
"Please come in." Jiang Yi opened the door.
Aunt Rou soon came out to receive She Fei, and Jiang Nannan also came to Jiang Yi's side.
"Madam, Nannan's cultivation has progressed rapidly of late. In five years, she has broken through from level eight to level twenty-eight. At that speed, she's already a genius among geniuses."
She Fei was unstinting in his praise.
"We have you to thank for your help, Brother She. Otherwise, Nannan wouldn't even have been able to awaken her Martial Soul," Aunt Rou said hurriedly.
"I was only doing my duty." She Fei looked modest.
"I came to see you today because there's an important matter I'd like to advise Nannan on." She Fei's expression turned serious.
She Fei's seriousness made Aunt Rou somewhat worried.
She Fei asked, "At Nannan's age, it's time for her to graduate from the junior academy. Do you have any plans for where she should go next?"
His question immediately stumped both Aunt Rou and Jiang Nannan.
Neither of them had really considered the matter. Li Lingyu had only mentioned it in passing while teaching them.
A light flashed in Jiang Yi's eyes, and he understood.
Sure enough, he's here to recommend an academy to Nannan. It should be Shrek Academy.
Sure enough, She Fei pulled a letter straight from his robes.
"Madam, I'm sure you've heard of the number one academy on the Douluo Continent. This is a letter of recommendation written by the city lord of Spirit Mountain City. Anyone who meets the requirements can enroll with this letter."
"With Nannan's qualifications, she more than meets Shrek Academy's admission requirements."
With that, She Fei placed the letter on the table and said no more. He believed Aunt Rou and Jiang Nannan would make the right choice.
After explaining the important matter, She Fei exchanged a few pleasantries and left.
Once She Fei was gone, Jiang Nannan and Aunt Rou fell silent for a moment as they looked at the letter on the table.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything?" Jiang Yi asked with a smile.
"Shrek Academy is the number one academy on the continent. It's the best place for Nannan to go after graduation, so what is there to hesitate about?"
Looking at the smile on Jiang Yi's face, Jiang Nannan knew he only wanted her to study at a better academy.
Yet for some reason, she felt a surge of discontent.
"Hmph. If you're not going, Brother Jiang Yi, then I'm not going either." Jiang Nannan pouted.
"Who said I wasn't going? Nannan, do you believe me?" Jiang Yi asked seriously.
Jiang Yi's earnest, serious expression made Jiang Nannan nod involuntarily.
Ever since they were little, there had never been anything Jiang Yi said he would do that he failed to accomplish.
Even the awakening of their Martial Souls had gone as Jiang Yi had predicted.
"Then go to Shrek Academy and wait for me there. I'll come find you soon."
Jiang Yi stroked Jiang Nannan's hair, soothing her.
"All right, but you have to come find me soon," Jiang Nannan agreed quietly, the discontent in her heart fading away.
"I will." Jiang Yi nodded confidently.
The fact that She Fei could bring them a letter of recommendation for Shrek Academy also indirectly showed that the academy's opening day was drawing closer.
On the tenth day after New Year's, She Fei came by again to tell Jiang Nannan that Shrek Academy would open on the fifteenth and that she should get ready.
The time for parting was approaching, and both Jiang Yi and Jiang Nannan were deeply reluctant to say goodbye.
But reluctant as they were, they both knew this separation was necessary.
"Brother Jiang Yi, you must come find me soon."
Jiang Nannan spoke reluctantly before boarding the carriage.
Watching the carriage depart for Shrek Academy, Jiang Yi turned and headed toward Lingshan Junior Academy.
Now that Jiang Nannan had left, he too had to start looking for a way to break through to level ten.
The simplest way for him to break through to level ten was undoubtedly a Mystic Water Pill.
After all, a single Mystic Water Pill could raise Innate Soul Power by at least one level.
Chapter 25: A Way to Break Through to Level Ten (Please Keep Reading!)
But Mystic Water Pills were not so easy to obtain.
Such resources rarely circulated on the Douluo Continent. Only the top powers had access to Mystic Water Pills, and even they had a pitifully small supply.
Even as a Soul Emperor, Li Lingyu would find it as hard as ascending to heaven to obtain a Mystic Water Pill.
After all, this was no longer ten thousand years ago. There were already many Soul Emperors, and an ordinary Soul Emperor could not be considered a top combatant.
What was more, Li Lingyu was a Soul Emperor who could no longer make any progress.
At this stage, breaking through to level ten with a Mystic Water Pill was essentially impossible.
Other methods included Immortal Herbs or the Blue Silver Emperor hidden in the Sun Moon Empire.
But none of these were things he could get access to now, not even with Li Lingyu's help.
The terrifying poisonous miasma enveloping the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well alone was beyond a Soul Emperor's ability to deal with.
So Jiang Yi could only seek another way. His greatest reliance was the Custom Achievement System.
If he could obtain an achievement that raised his Innate Soul Power, then every problem would be solved as readily as a blade splitting bamboo.
But obtaining such an achievement was far too uncertain and would likely take a very long time.
With so many methods unavailable, he ultimately turned to the abilities he already possessed.
Namely, Photosynthesis Pioneer-or, to be precise, Group Photosynthesis Pioneer.
This ability, which could infuse his body with vast amounts of Heaven and Earth Origin Energy, was his chance to break through to level ten.
As long as he absorbed enough Heaven and Earth Origin Energy, he could surely smash through the bottleneck in one stroke.
If he couldn't, then he simply hadn't absorbed enough Soul Power.
However, using this method to break through carried great risks.
Jiang Yi had already tried it once before, and the amount of Heaven and Earth Origin Energy his body could withstand at its limit was not enough to break through the bottleneck.
To break through, he would have to far exceed what his body could bear and smash through the bottleneck by force.
That would do great damage to his body. More importantly, using Group Photosynthesis to absorb such a vast amount of Heaven and Earth Origin Energy
required stronger spiritual power, and Jiang Yi had no idea how to quickly increase his spiritual power.
Whether it was the immense risk or a way to increase his spiritual power, both required time to prepare for.
He planned to tell Li Lingyu about this idea so the two of them could find a way together.
He arrived at Li Lingyu's residence within Lingshan Junior Academy.
Entering the hall, he saw Li Lingyu holding a letter, his brow tightly furrowed as he read it.
When he saw Jiang Yi arrive, he immediately put the letter away.
"Nannan has already left, hasn't she?" Li Lingyu asked.
Jiang Yi nodded slightly, then said, "Teacher, I came this time to talk about breaking through to level ten."
"I have an idea now. It might give me a chance to break through to level ten."
"Oh? You have a way?" Li Lingyu's eyes lit up.
"That's right. Teacher, you should know what's special about me. I intend to..."
Jiang Yi laid out his idea in full. Li Lingyu frowned and nodded as he listened.
"According to your idea, you first need a way to keep your body from collapsing, and you also need to find a way to greatly increase your spiritual power in a short time."
"Neither of those things will be easy to accomplish."
Protecting the body from collapse when pushed beyond its limits was also a problem that had long troubled Li Lingyu in the Extreme Training Method.
Other than improving physical fitness, he could think of no better way.
For now, he was also pinning his hopes on Jiang Yi's proposal to fuse with the Soul Ring of a Soul Beast of the same origin and increase bloodline vitality.
With greater bloodline vitality, there would be no need to undergo such extreme training.
"I don't have a particularly good way to keep your body from collapsing either, but I have done some research into increasing spiritual power in a short time," Li Lingyu said with a smile.
"That's wonderful," Jiang Yi said delightedly.
"However, this method of greatly increasing spiritual power in a short time carries certain risks."
Li Lingyu began explaining his method of increasing spiritual power to Jiang Yi.
When he had previously experimented with the Extreme Training Method, the extreme training undergone by the participants had not only put enormous pressure on their bodies but had also been tremendous mental torment.
If that mental strain could not be relieved or their minds strengthened, they could not complete the extreme training.
