Douluo: My Custom Achievement System
The bustling, novel sights of Shrek City were almost more than Jiang Yi could take in.
"Little Yi, go to Shrek Academy and find Nannan. Classes at Shrek Outer Court should be over by now."
"You can find a student and ask him to pass a message along, so Nannan can come out and see you."
Outside a hotel, Li Lingyu suddenly stopped and gave him those instructions.
Jiang Yi asked in surprise, "Teacher, aren't you coming with me?"
Li Lingyu explained, "I'm going to meet an old friend and catch up. After you've seen Nannan, come find me at this hotel."
"All right." Jiang Yi's eyes flickered as he nodded.
He had long known there was more to Li Lingyu's identity than met the eye, so it was no surprise that he had an old friend in Shrek City.
Since Li Lingyu didn't talk about it, he wouldn't pry either.
After saying goodbye to Li Lingyu, Jiang Yi continued toward Shrek Academy.
In the academy built around Shrek Academy, every resident naturally knew where Shrek Academy was.
Jiang Yi asked a random passerby for directions and soon found Shrek Academy's east gate.
By now, a sea of people had gathered at Shrek Academy's east gate.
Stallholders loudly hawked their wares, while Shrek students wandered between the stalls, looking for food they liked.
Jiang Yi stood some distance away, looking for someone to pass a message along for him.
Just then, a lively voice rang out amid the noisy crowd, reaching his ears clearly.
"Nannan, let's go have a look over there. The grilled squid smells so good. Let's go have some together."
"Little Ya, how much have you already eaten? Are you really going to keep eating?"
"Of course I am! That was barely anything. I'm not even half full yet."
That familiar voice, together with the sight of her drawing most people's gazes as soon as she appeared, stirred Jiang Yi's emotions.
He turned toward the voice and immediately spotted a figure in the crowd who seemed to shine.
Jiang Nannan stood in front of the grilled squid stall with the girl, her face full of helplessness. As if their hearts were in tune, she sensed something familiar.
As if guided by an unseen force, she turned her head. Her eyes slowly widened, and a delighted smile appeared on her face.
The usually aloof goddess's delighted smile left the people around her who had been watching her dumbstruck.
Jiang Nannan pulled her arm free of the girl's grasp and ran straight ahead.
"Hey, Nannan, where are you going?"
Under everyone's gaze, Jiang Nannan threw herself into a man's arms like a swallow returning to its nest.
Some of the Shrek students watching their goddess stared blankly, their hearts shattered all over the ground.
"Why did you wait until now to come see me?" Jiang Nannan complained as she embraced Jiang Yi.
Jiang Yi looked apologetic. Of course he had wanted to see Jiang Nannan sooner, but too many things had delayed him.
"Sorry, Nannan. Sorry for the wait."
Looking at Jiang Yi's weary face, Jiang Nannan felt the resentment she had long held inside suddenly vanish.
She understood that she had only been upset because she couldn't see Jiang Yi. Now that she had seen him, nothing else mattered.
Most importantly, Jiang Nannan understood just how difficult it was for Jiang Yi to break through the level-ten bottleneck.
Ten thousand years ago, Yu Xiaogang had possessed level 0.5 Innate Soul Power and had spent nearly half his life held back by the level-thirty bottleneck.
One could imagine how difficult it had been for Jiang Yi, with his level 0.1 Innate Soul Power, to break through level ten.
Holding Jiang Yi, Jiang Nannan could clearly feel the fluctuations of his Soul Power.
Delight appeared on Jiang Nannan's face, and she exclaimed, "Brother Jiang Yi, you succeeded!"
"After spending so much time on it, of course I succeeded. Otherwise, how would I have dared say I'd come see you?" Jiang Yi said with a faint smile.
"That's wonderful!" Jiang Nannan was genuinely happy for Jiang Yi.
Their intimate exchange, as though no one else were around, left the male Shrek students furious and heartbroken.
At that moment, the girl who had been with Jiang Nannan all along ran over to them with a mischievous grin.
"Nannan, this is your Brother Jiang Yi, isn't it?"
Hearing the girl's words, Jiang Yi looked up at her.
The girl wore a Shrek Academy uniform, her long black hair tied in a ponytail. Her phoenix eyes sparkled with vivacity.
Though she wasn't as breathtakingly beautiful as Jiang Nannan, she had a youthful vitality all her own.
"And you are?" Jiang Yi asked with a smile.
"My name's Tang Ya. I'm Nannan's roommate," Tang Ya introduced herself openly.
"Hello, I'm Jiang Yi. I'm sure you've heard of me by now," Jiang Yi said with a smile.
"Hee-hee, Nannan talks about you in the dorm all day. I couldn't help knowing who you are," Tang Ya teased with a grin.
"Hmph, you've got some nerve saying that about me. You run off with Bei Bei all day, and who knows what you get up to," Jiang Nannan retorted irritably.
At the mention of Bei Bei, Tang Ya's face flushed, but she immediately shot back, "Bei Bei is my Tang Sect's eldest disciple. Isn't it perfectly normal for me to go out and take care of things with him?"
"Is he really just your eldest disciple?" Jiang Nannan pressed.
Tang Ya's face turned bright red, and she gave Jiang Nannan a reproachful glare.
"I can't be bothered with you. You stay here with your Brother Jiang Yi. I'm going to keep eating."
With that, Tang Ya hurried off, afraid that Jiang Nannan would keep teasing her.
As Tang Ya fled in disarray, Jiang Nannan smiled smugly.
"Brother Jiang Yi, let's leave and find somewhere quieter to talk." With that, Jiang Nannan pulled Jiang Yi away from Shrek Academy's east gate.
How could they have a proper conversation with a huge crowd eyeing them like tigers stalking their prey?
In a tavern in Shrek City.
"Two cups of Blue Silver Brew," Li Lingyu said to the bartender.
Before long, the bartender brought over two cups of crystal-clear liquor that glowed blue.
Li Lingyu picked up a cup of Blue Silver Brew and took a sip. Bitterness burst across his tongue, then turned into a fresh sweetness.
Nostalgia flashed in his eyes. He used to come and drink this liquor often.
Unfortunately, the events of those days were too far in the past, so long ago that he didn't dare think back on them.
Just as he was lost in his memories, a slender hand suddenly reached out from beside him and took the other cup of Blue Silver Brew.
The person who took it was a young man who looked to be in his thirties. He wore glasses and had a refined, scholarly bearing.
After taking a sip, the young man looked at Li Lingyu, his eyes filled with complicated emotions.
"Senior Brother Li, it really has been a long time. I never thought you'd be willing to return to Shrek City."
"Yes, it has been a long time, Wang Yan." Li Lingyu turned to look at the young man.
Chapter 41: Wang Yan's Shock, Meeting (Please Keep Reading!)
In a corner of the tavern, Li Lingyu and Wang Yan faced each other.
"Little Wang, I came to Shrek City to find you because there's something I'd like to ask of you," Li Lingyu said bluntly.
Wang Yan smiled wryly. He hadn't expected his senior brother to ask him for help the moment he returned to Shrek City.
"Go ahead, Senior Brother. You took great care of me back then. As long as it's not too difficult, I can take care of it for you." Even so, Wang Yan agreed immediately.
"I took on a disciple out there. He's eleven this year, and I want him to join Shrek Academy now. I hope you can help him."
Hearing Li Lingyu's request, Wang Yan's expression grew troubled.
"Senior Brother, you should know that the academy's admission rules are very strict. If his Soul Power doesn't meet the standard and he doesn't have a special recommendation..."
"Even I can't help him get into Shrek Academy."
As a former student of Shrek Academy, Li Lingyu certainly knew Shrek's rules.
Since he had come to ask Wang Yan for help, his disciple probably couldn't meet Shrek Academy's requirements.
Has Senior Brother been away from Shrek Academy so long that he's forgotten the rules? To think he's pinning his hopes on me.
Wang Yan smiled wryly to himself.
Li Lingyu's expression didn't change. He gave Wang Yan a mysterious smile.
"Don't worry. My disciple meets the academy's admission requirements. What I want is for you to let him enroll right now."
"Why? The semester is almost over. Can't he just enroll next semester?" Wang Yan asked in confusion.
"My disciple has a very solid grasp of theory, and his physique is already very strong. He doesn't really need to study the first-year curriculum."
Wang Yan looked troubled. "Senior Brother, I trust you when it comes to theory, but as for physical strength, the academy's students are all geniuses."
"Are you really that confident?"
"Of course I am. Because he has something no one else in all of Shrek Academy, or even the entire continent, can have."
"Oh?"
Li Lingyu's bold claim immediately piqued Wang Yan's interest.
What could the geniuses gathered at Shrek Academy be unable to achieve,
yet someone who couldn't meet the academy's admission requirements could?
"My disciple's First Soul Ring is a Thousand-Year Soul Ring," Li Lingyu said word by word, staring into Wang Yan's eyes.
Wang Yan's eyes went wide, and he shouted instinctively, "That's impossible!"
A thousand-year First Soul Ring? How could that be?
As everyone knew, the limit for a First Soul Ring was around four hundred and thirty years.
No matter how talented someone was, surely they couldn't go beyond five hundred-odd years and absorb a Thousand-Year Soul Ring.
Even Tang San, who had become the Sea God ten thousand years ago, had never been heard of fusing with a thousand-year ring as his First Soul Ring.
"Does he have Twin Martial Souls?" Wang Yan suddenly thought of something and asked urgently.
Only someone with Twin Martial Souls might be able to fuse with a thousand-year ring as their First Soul Ring.
"No. He has only one Martial Soul, and his Soul Power is only level sixteen right now," Li Lingyu explained calmly.
"No Twin Martial Souls, and his Soul Power is only level sixteen. How on earth did he do it?" Wang Yan murmured in disbelief.
It defied all reason. On the Douluo Continent, there was actually a Soul Master without Twin Martial Souls who had fused with a thousand-year ring as his First Soul Ring.
Just how strong must that person's physique be?
"Is his Martial Soul a Beast Martial Soul?" Wang Yan asked another question.
"No. It's a Tool Martial Soul, and the weakest one at that: Blue Silver Grass."
Li Lingyu's words shocked Wang Yan once again.
A Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul, and he had actually fused with a thousand-year First Soul Ring.
If he hadn't trusted Li Lingyu so much, he probably would have questioned him on the spot.
"Why, exactly?" In the end, those were the only words Wang Yan could force out. He stared fixedly at Li Lingyu, hoping to hear an answer from him.
A mysterious smile on his face, Li Lingyu spoke slowly. "Even I can't claim to understand my disciple completely. After all, changes in a Martial Soul are the most mysterious of all."
"If you want to find out how he managed all this, then let him join Shrek Academy."
"Doesn't Shrek Academy recruit only monsters? Doesn't my disciple count as one?"
Wang Yan smiled wryly, his curiosity already impossible to suppress. He truly wanted to understand what changes had occurred in Li Lingyu's disciple.
"Senior Brother, you've certainly aroused my interest. I can help him enroll now, but before that, I want to meet him."
"Nine tomorrow morning. I'll wait for you at the Shrek Hotel," Li Lingyu said as he stood.
